Plenty of the officers in the British army in WW2 would have looked and dressed like that when not at war.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't those the fags picked 100% on an academic and "breeding" basis?

I'm no expert but I thought British officers of that era were renowned for being pantywaist Milquetoasts hand picked because their CO's didn't want to suffer the indignity of sitting down to elevensies only for their subordinate to butter his crumpet with the wrong spoon.

This is probably one of the main reasons that the US military enjoyed such stellar success by comparison for a time, given it's officers were until recently chosen for demonstrated capacity to do war while most other armies were still handing out command positions to Uncle Reginald's son in law "because he's the right sort".

Reginald's son in law or not, they were still there storming the beaches with that famous stiff upper lip. British men of all classes (the working class used to be aspirational, and not enthralled to imported street culture) used to wear a full suit on a day out to the sea side, don't make 'em like that anymore. But yes, in response to Kona, perhaps Charles could have updated his attire just a tad.

Wanted to riff on this...my understanding is that through and including WWI, class-system politics was a major factor in British military staffing, but that this had largely ended in the inter-war period as the technocratic needs of modern armies had become clear from the disasters in the trenches, and the continued democritization of society and reduction of power of the monarchy and nobility opened the doors of military academies and careers to commoners.

It's notable (in fact staring one right in the face) to observe the modest backgrounds of some of the Second World War's most senior officers - Eisenhower, Paulus, Zhukov; even Hitler and Stalin were relative paupers.

I imagine that it was a similar situation with the British nobility and peers who served as officers in the King's military.

Would be curious to see your source, I would find that difficult to believe as a general rule - that's a huge population discrepancy as an average. It may be that officer candidates were heavier _at enlistment_ before scores of impoverished Appalachian/middle-American people could be trained and fattened up with military food. But given the mass number of officers they had to train up along with the enlisted men, it strikes me as unthinkable that there was a sub-population that exceptional that happened to be selected for officership to that strong a degree.

There's a similar riff that I think has been exposed as an urban legend about Napoleon putting taller soldiers in front (which supposedly led to disproportionate losses of tall stock and so a shortening of the French population over the generations).

(In counterpoint, I'm told George Washington, America's greatest soldier ever, towered over his troops, topping 6'4" in an era where 5'7" or so was average, three inches less than today's Americans.)

RE: Prince Harry marrying "red flag" woman
Buckle up gentleman, things are only going to get worse once the wedding is over and Meghan becomes a member of the Royal Family.
On a recent trip to Cardiff, she informed one member of the crowd that Prince Harry is a feminist too. She also broke Royal protocol more than once and in my opinion, treated the whole affair as a red carpet event.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/articl...-fans.html
Quote:She signed autographs, was given flowers, had her hand kissed – and even took part in a group hug.

Meghan Markle passed her initiation with flying colours as she made her first visit to Wales yesterday.

As she and Prince Harry continued their pre-wedding tour of the UK, the actress praised her husband to be, who is officially Prince Henry of Wales.

Chatting to the crowds who had waited patiently in the cold outside Cardiff Castle, she was lauded by Jessica Phillips, 23, for her outspoken feminist views.

Miss Markle, 36, replied: 'He [Harry] is a feminist too, so there's that.'

Freelance journalist Miss Phillips said afterwards: 'She was so lovely. I said it was really lovely to have a feminist in the Royal Family and she said Harry is a feminist too.'

The couple's day in the Welsh capital had not started too promisingly, however. Their 11.15am Great Western train from London Paddington was held up by a points failure at Didcot, arriving an hour late.

As the couple shook dozens of outstretched hands, Harry, 33, said repeatedly 'Sorry we're late', while Miss Markle said 'Thank you for waiting'.

Their namesakes Megan Taylor, nine, and Harry Smith, six, presented them with a Welsh love spoon, an early wedding present from the people of Wales.

Miss Markle, who will marry Harry on May 19, said: 'Oh my goodness, wow, it's beautiful, thank you very much.'

Anne Daley asked if she would hold her hen party in Cardiff.

The beaming actress replied: 'I bet that would be a lot of fun' – before being led away by a clearly more wary Harry.

While the prince declined to pose for selfies, his fiancee broke the normal rules of royal protocol – and even wrote in one schoolgirl's notebook. Members of the Royal Family do not normally give autographs.

Caitlin Clark, ten, said: 'Hi Meghan. Can you sign my book?' Miss Markle, was only too happy to oblige, but unfortunately spelt her fan's name with a K, writing 'Hi Kaitlin' and adding a heart and a smiley face.

Caitlin, however, did not seem to mind. 'I don't really care,' she said. 'My heart is still racing. I've never got a royal autograph before. This is going to make everyone jealous.

Megan McAuley, ten, held up a notice saying 'My Name is Meghan Too!!!'

It worked, as Miss Markle ran over after spotting it. 'Oh, your name's Megan? Can I call you Meg?' she asked.

Inside the castle the couple enjoyed performances of Welsh poetry and music before heading to the city's Tremorfa area, where they visited children at the Star Hub sports centre.

As the youngsters crowded round, Harry told them: 'Everyone give Meghan a group hug!'

'Oh thank you,' said Meghan as she hugged the children back.

Harry, who joined in, could be heard to say: 'And release, she's mine!' The couple chatted with children and played table tennis. Miss Markle also played Jenga, which involves balancing wooden blocks on top of each other, with Kevin Chiduau, 12.

She said: 'I love this game. You need so much patience for it.'

The royal couple returned to London at the end of the day – on a train that, fortunately for them, left on time.

Meghan has been given her first dedicated member of staff at Kensington Palace - a new female assistant private secretary.

She is now being supported by blonde Amy Pickerill, who used to work for Royal Bank of Scotland, the Mail can reveal.

Miss Pickerill was, until December, a member of the Kensington Palace press team.

But she has now been sequestered by Prince Harry to work as an assistant private secretary, based in his private office.

Sources said she would be ‘supporting Meghan on engagements and with her official work as part of her role’.

This will include everything from organising her diary to collecting flowers and gifts on engagements.

Her initial move to Harry’s personal team was ‘long planned’: said an aide.

Meghan proved she was just as popular as her husband-to-be in Cardiff, with crowds cheering her name and swamping her in hugs during her first trip to the country.

Adoring fans queued up from 6am for a chance to get to greet the couple. June Haws, from Llandaff brought Harry and Meghan a Welsh Love Spoon made from pewter to celebrate their upcoming wedding.

The custom of carving and giving Love Spoons dates back centuries in Wales, with young men gifting them as a token of their affection.

The couple left Wales with a number of them, including one, with the initials H and M carved into it, presented by primary school pupils Harry Smith and Megan Taylor.

The bride-to-be told fans she was a 'super lucky woman' as she and Harry put on a touching display of affection while carrying out their third engagement - but apologised for being late after their train from London was delayed.

Meghan-mania saw royal supporters queuing outside Cardiff Castle from 6am waiting in the biting cold for the US-born actress and her besotted prince, with some even managing to steal a hug from her as she arrived.

And playful Harry was overheard praising Welsh singing, telling his fiancée: 'You are only going to hear the best singing in Wales… at the Principality Stadium we have the best singing. People are in tune, which you can't say for most football stadiums.'

Meghan wrapped up against the biting cold in a black coat by Stella McCartney, with a 'mini venice' handbag in forest green by British leather goods company DeMellier worth £295 and trousers by the Welsh fashion house, Hiut Denim.

Sixth former Amy Thomas , 18, persuaded Meghan to pose for a selfie in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. Amy, of Groesfaen, Cardiff, said: 'She was lovely and friendly.'

A visit to Wales is not complete without sampling a Welsh cake - and that's exactly what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made sure to do during their time in Cardiff.

They were also given traditional Welsh lovespoons, listened to a Welsh love song and a Welsh poem, as well as the Welsh choir Only Boys Aloud.

The couple spent half an hour chatting to wellwishers outside a rainy Cardiff Castle, before taking a further 90 minutes exploring inside.

Their visit concluded with a Taste of Wales experience, where Harry and Ms Markle were able to enjoy slices of Welsh cheese and of course, Welsh cakes.

Ms Markle herself showcased Welsh manufacturing, with her trousers by Hiut Denim, made in Cardigan, Ceredigion, west Wales.

The US actress proclaimed the traditional Welsh cake 'very good' after tasting one made by the Village Bakery, based in Wrexham, north Wales.

'Very good,' she said. 'Wow, it's great.'

Welsh cakes are made with flour, sugar, mixed spice, butter, currants, milk and egg, and cooked on a griddle.

The couple were also treated to a wedding cake made from Welsh cheese, with Ms Markle exclaiming: 'Oh my goodness, how sweet is that'.

Both Ms Markle and Harry tasted small pieces of the mature cheddar that made up part of the five-tier cake, which she described as 'really delicious'.

The cake, by the Snowdonia Cheese Company, based in Rhyl, north Wales, included extra mature cheddar, vintage Red Leicester, a garlic and herb cheese and a smoked mature cheddar.

Simon Mercer, director of the company, said: 'We have created it for them, the topper says 'congratulations' in Welsh.

'They are very welcome to take it with them.'

Ms Markle and Harry were presented with a hamper full of other Welsh products to try, including Halen Mon salt, cider, edible flowers, and Merlyn Cream Liqueur.

At the beginning of their time inside the castle, Harry and Ms Markle listened to the Welsh poem Hon by Sir Thomas Herbert Parry-Williams.

Sixth form student Emily Pemberton, who comes from an English speaking family but learnt Welsh at primary school, recited the poem.

Enlli Pugh, of Eryri Young Farmers Club, then sang a Welsh love song to the couple.

Harry told his fiancee: 'You are only going to hear the best singing in Wales.

'At the Principality Stadium we have the best singing.

'People are in tune, which you can't say for most football stadiums.'

After hearing Enlli's rendition, Ms Markle said: 'What a marvellous voice. It is beautiful, wow. Thank you.'

The actress described a performance by Welsh choir Only Boys Aloud as 'unbelievable, that was so incredible'.

She also praised a street dance by Katie Morris, 18, from Maesteg and Reuel Elijah, 21, from Grangetown, Cardiff.

The dance, by the Jukebox Collective, was choreographed especially for the royal visit and is entitled 'Toy Soldier'.

'She loved it, she was really impressed by the choreography,' company director Liara Barussi said.

Harry told Mr Elijah, who danced the part of a royal guardsman: 'If the guardsman started dancing like that, what will the tourists think?'

The couple also met players involved in Welsh sports, receiving signed shirts from the Welsh Rugby team and the Welsh women's football teams.

They were also presented with a football signed by the Welsh men's football team.

Winger Nadia Lawrence, 28, who plays for Wales, said: 'It was amazing, it was surreal. They seemed very down to Earth.'

The couple left Wales with a number of Welsh lovespoons - tokens of love and affection that date back centuries.

One, with the initials H and M carved into it, was presented by Harry Smith, six, and Megan Taylor, nine, of Marlborough Primary School.

In my opinion, once the wedding is over and Meghan becomes more comfortable in the her role, she will become more outspoken in her opinions, and because she will be a Royal, anything she says will be front page news. She has already shown that she doesn't give a shit about protocol and her social views are well known. The years ahead are going to be interesting, that's for sure.

RE: Prince Harry marrying "red flag" woman
She will fade away with time. The truth is she was a C-list prior to these Royal shenanigans, and the other fact is that Harry will never be King. What influence will she truly have aside from cutting ribbons and giving puff speeches at some dinky UN event in Madagascar that nobody gives a fuck about?

She is hyped now because she is relevant, now as a star of the current show Suits. Once Suits ends and fades away she will be a nobody.

Unless she is pumping out kids nobody really gives a fuck about these Royals aside from elderly women. You can sense that the media that pumps out Royal tabloids are trying to jockey to make Markle like a Diana that young people will gravitate towards.

Markle does not have the wattage of Diana. Markle is already almost at her end also at 36. Only reason has not hit the wall and looks like a bridge troll is because she ethnic genes that age better versus just Caucasian.

People are overacting. She will be a nobody in 5 years. If she tries to be an attention whore then the Royals may have her take a hired car in Paris for a spin, they will clamp down on that hard if she tries to game the Royals for her own brand.

The wedding will get hype as every female on earth with access to a TV will watch. Remember Kate? Girls will frying and fawning over her when she had her wedding. Now? Nobody gives a fuck about her; even Kate's hyped sister Pippa vanished into nothing .

He great thing about these Royals is the wedding is the peak. Aside from the rare coronation and passing of a King or Queen the only hype is the wedding. So, Markle will peak in May and will trend downwards after that.

Sarah Ferguson - touted as the most beautiful woman on Earth:

We have to remember that princess Diana had such an impact, because she married very young.

She DIED THE SAME AGE THAT THIS MEGHAN is getting married!!!!

Let that sink in - Diana died at 36 while this Meghan is getting married at age 36.

The media will find out soon enough how quickly the power wanes of a woman who is marrying at the wall.

RE: Prince Harry marrying "red flag" woman
Let me get my head round this.

*The cuckservative Cameron government passed a law giving royal daughters equal claims to the throne as sons.

* Commoner women can become princesses and queens through consummation. Common men can not (Mike Tyndall isn't a prince AFAIK), Phil the Greek didn't become a king through marriage after Elizabeth became queen.

*Women marry younger than men and live longer so there will be a lot of female heads of states in future.

This seems to logical conclusion of hypergamous equality.

Six inches may be at the extreme end, but I know I've seen research about developing economies where, as expected, everyone is getting taller as the society becomes wealthier, but city dwellers are getting taller 50% faster than the rural folk.

It makes sense that in that era, when a lot of the young men being conscripted as enlisted men had grown up Depression-poor in the countryside, that there'd be a very serious height discrepancy.

In WWI many young men grew 3 inches, because they had daily meat for the first time in their lives - that included British, French and German soldiers.

After the fall of communism it turned out that Eastern Germans were 3-4 inches shorter than Western Germans. That is a difference after a mere 4 decades!

In the past they found 2000 year old villages in current-day Germany which had many men above 6 ft while the average height went down tremendously during medieval times.

Height responds to certain food groups and nutrients - during pregnancy and then childhood. Even late-stage teens can produce a growth spurt if you have been denied proper food most of your life.

Essentially she is the ultimate feminist power-fantasy:

I don't know what could be better except for cutting her hair short 1 year after child birth, gaining 80 pounds and then divorce raping him right afterwards - that would be the ultimate feminist power fantasy.

RE: Prince Harry marrying "red flag" woman
Out last night.

Started chatting to some uk students. Turns out that they grew up in the same part of the UK I did.

Got on well for about half an hour then someone mentioned prince Harry - I said he was dumb to marry a woman that is older than him.

That earned me a frosty response. They called me a sexist. I said it's not sexist to point out that she is drying up. Then I was a Nazi, a racist,.. I was like what about making the point that marrying an older woman is a mistake is racist?

Then the ideological zeal kicked in and I was a sexist a racist a Nazi, my parents were qunts for raising a racist which means they probably racists themselves. Then they told me I better just leave.

Then they mentioned a *white trash * celebrity who died of cancer a few years ago and said "I suppose you think he should marry that whore"

I was like 'my parents were bombed as children by the Germans, plenty of my family died fighting the actual Nazis, my buddy's kids were friends with that *white trash whore' s* children all through her struggle with cancer, still are.. So I resent you insulting people you've never met.

It's a wonderful marriage! The royal family needs people of color in its blood line but you don't like that because... .. Racist! Nazi! She's a whore ! Etc.

The struggle is real..

Your acquaintances aren't as woke as they think. The real racism is that Harry chose someone with light skin because UK racists are uncomfortable with darker women.

If you don't believe me, ask this woman.

Personally I don't think it is a race issue. I give this woman credit for finding a way to make the royal wedding all about her.

Did not even know that she is mixed:

The kid might be even blond, but we will see how the IVF treatments will work out.

Me neither. That is why I am so impressed that that lady found a way to make it an issue.

I wonder what blacks think of 1/8 black bloods calling themselves black?

I am 1/4 native Indian, and even among my own Indian family, I am white. Once in a while I can slip in a good racist joke but most of the time I would get beat down.

I guess it is easy to tell if you're are black. For me, I can spot mixed folks a mile away.

Also, she does treatment to her hair. If she had her natural naps and curls it would be a dead give away.

It all comes down to culture and upbringing mostly.

There is a different dynamic when its the mother whom is black versus the father. More times than not it is the father and his culture that will win out in what is the culture in the household.

It also is more profound when it is a clear 50/50. There are many people who have a mix of stuff from various parts but when it is a clear 50/50 I could imagine it is tough for the identity of the kid growing up. Lots of my mixed friends have a chip on their shoulder from this. I cut them slack because it is something majority of folks don't have to deal with growing up.

This is more a tweet that was directed against the cultural marxists who are blackening Britain by claiming that ancient Europeans were somehow super-black:

Paul Nehlan was banned off Twitter for that joke.

Even the DNA testing was instantly criticized for being faulty - that is the old version of the Cheddar Man.

As for Meghan Merkle - she is essentially white now. Her mom was already mixed - their kids if she can get some will be even more white.

But I will grant it to her - she is more black than Sargon of Akkad who also claims to be 1/4 black.

RE: Prince Harry marrying "red flag" woman
The country is going through difficult times right now. The royal wedding will serve as entertainment and as a further distraction. Britain is ground zero for anglosphere feminism, as hetrosexual couples getting married reaches an all time low. Meghan Markle, is the ultimate feminist fantasy, and she is being cheered on by the daily mail and left wing media; for possessing anti traditional traits. They featured articles about her murky past, hinting that she did the whole casting couch routine in hollywood to get where she wanted; in a positive light.

I think this comes more down to the collective conciousness, of post modern women wanting to confirm their life choices. They don't want to see women as having virtue and being faithful to their husbands; as this would put into question their life decisions.

RE: Prince Harry marrying "red flag" woman
I never knew much about the royal family but I read through this thread and found this situation to be interesting and sad. I also read through some articles and watched this interview with Prince Harry and Princess Hypergamy.

First, Prince Harry has had a difficult family life. His whole life has been in the spotlight. His parents were having affairs when he was a small child and it appears that he was interacting with their boyfriends and girlfriends. His parents had a highly publicized separation and divorce during his childhood. His mother died unexpectedly when he was 12. There were many rumors in the media about whether or not Prince Charles is his real father. All of this is a significant psychological burden.

Prince Harry thinks of himself and his mother as outsiders to the royal family. He has always been trying to live his life a little differently and escape a little. Surely this relates to his attraction to Meghan Markle who is even more of an outsider.

A few things stand out about Markle. She is obviously a calculated, status-seeking monkey-brancher. Her best friend of 30 years called her out on this. Even if the friend is a crazy attention whore then Markle is essentially guilty of being the same or they wouldn't have been best friends for 30 years. Her previous marriage and Canadian boyfriend confirm this.

Another thing is her domineering personality. She is so domineering that it's obvious she is selfish. She may have convinced herself that she is in love with Prince Harry but it's also obvious that a huge part of her attraction to him is related to hypergamy and her desire to be very famous.

Unfortunately her domineering personality is going to be like oil and water with her new life. She will have to change her entire life to play her new role and she is not the type of woman who is going to fall in line with the way things are done in the royal family. She is too independent and at 36 she has been too independent for too long. She is dominant and Prince Harry is passive but he is much higher status and she will have to change her life to fit him and his family. She will be under constant pressure to play a role that isn't her natural self and someone with a domineering personality is very unlikely to be happy doing that.

Finally, both Markle and Prince Harry have divorced parents and a difficult relationships with their fathers.

Put all of these things together there isn't much chance that they remain happy. They are in the honeymoon phase now but it's going to go downhill once that phase is over.

TLDR
I really feel bad for Prince Harry. He seems like a good guy who has had a difficult family life. I understand his attraction to an outsider but he picked the wrong one, both from the standpoint of her being a calculated monkey-brancher and because her domineering personality isn't a good fit for him or her role within the royal family. These are two children of divorced parents who are repeating the cycle.

RE: Prince Harry marrying "red flag" woman
I remember reading a heartiste post quipping that a man can only love a women for 2 reasons.

1. She is young and beautiful
2. She is a good mother to your children (presumably you met her when she was young and beautiful, but motherhood has stripped her of some of her raw sex appeal, as it does all women)

Marrying a women of age 36 gives you neither. Frightening to think what happiness has been lost by putting women into the college meat grinder.

Given his fathers behaviour and that of King Edward this is hardly surprising. Not to mention what effects in breeding can have on the mind.
