Speaking to The Times after the conviction, Lilley’s stepmother, Nina Lilley, 48, said: ‘The book was a big problem with me. At the beginning I was, ‘Fair enough you want to write a horror story’, but I didn’t like the contents of it.

‘She had always had an obsession with serial killers but she said it was a way of venting her frustration of what happened when she was a child.’

Women use to want to have kids before 25, now they want to brutally murder disabled people?

There have always been and will be people that are just irreversibly fucked up from birth. Something related to empathy is simply broken in them for no apparent reason.

The difference is that in the past we used to just hang them immediately and went on with our lives, whereas now this woman will get just a slap on the wrist and later even a nice devoted beta to marry her and perhaps breed more fucked up descendants with her.

They did a study a while back in families that had risen out of poverty. It turned out that the correlation between poverty and crime was equally present in children who had grew up in poverty and children who had grown up later, when the family was no longer poor, and had never known poverty. The implication is that there's either something culturally broken in the families, or that families in poverty often have something genetic going on. Poverty alone was not the cause.

Adoption studies have suggested that the biological children of criminals are much more likely to end up with criminal records, whether or not they ever knew their biological parents.

The click bait title was a joke. Thread titles used to jokingly include alliteration but the trend has leaned toward tongue in cheek click bait as Roosh recently used.

I would argue there is a trend of modern women becoming increasingly violent as they are socialized to act more masculine. I don't think anyone here is a woman hater. Anything written on this forum will be taken out of context anyway, why try to appease people that don't get it? Roosh was roasted in worldwide media for a satirical article.

These articles while showing disturbing behavior, highlight a slow cultural shift and highlight the changing nature of women.

Some of the utter "trend" based hysteria that certain men on the forum seem to be suffering from desperately needs to be nipped in the bud, although even that metaphor fails because for some of them the fevered panic is already in full bloom.

Articles are not statistics.

Most of us at some stage have fallen prey to saturated media coverage of one thing or another. The same goes for the forum. A 65 year old couple can't amiably get divorced these days without some of the members here posting the court notice and screaming that the West is doomed.

Low class sociopaths and psychopaths exist and have always existed. Sometimes they get media coverage. This is nothing new and it isn't a trend.

Totally agree that culture can restrain it. It's a prominent theory out there that a lot of troubled people get deeply involved in religion simply because they need a strong authority figure to tell them not to do stupid shit, and God is a strong authority figure.

With that said, I'd wager the genes involved are strongly recessive, and you give a problematic family a century or so of the adult females killing their kids, the adult males killing their wives, and everybody else killing the adult males when they start bar brawls they can't finish or decide today is a good day to fight a cop, and when this pops up, it tends to settle out a little bit over a few generations.

If this girl is the first horror movie in her close family, I'd be shocked as all hell.

I think the `lack of empathy thing` is a misunderstood concept.
Most killers, at least those who kill to get some sort of feeling of pleasure, will achieve just that by putting themselves in the place of the victim.

If you strangle someone to death, and you feel satisfaction during the act, that is only possible if you have empathy.
In other words you can put yourself in the victims place!
I really think empathy is more of a measure of intelligence and
a persons ability to think in the abstract.
