Last time that I checked, when you get married you get a marriage license, that works in essence as a contract. A marriage is consummated, or validated, only when you have sex for the first time. Likewise estate laws are significantly generous to a spouse rather than a descendant. Unfortunately I would have to technically disagree with you. Generally I would agree that there is a lot of quid-pro-quo that goes with a marriage that we used to have that made it significantly more than just transactional sex. Sadly that quid-pro-quo is eroding every year it seems.

I would agree that the trick is to find a proper spouse these days, and good luck finding one. Likewise being on the same page with your spouse on your life goals is another condition that easier said than done. And of course good LTR game is paramount.

For the OP: I tend to think that Hefner was a canny business man who was able to capitalize on what was at the time, subversive material that he published in his magazine. I also concur that he did contribute to the cultural rot that the west is experiencing these days, as said before extensively by other members, to include Samseau. You can see the cultural rot in that it became so mainstream that Playboy is tame, and really does not need the plastic cover that it comes in. No, there is a clear distinction between whores and sluts, which involves intentions around money. Having sex out of pleasure versus sex for cash, a major difference.
