Top level NCAA Div 1 programs bring on truck loads of money. The Big 10 recently signed a $2.5 billion deal with FOX over 6 years. This is NFL type money but with one big bonus...

NCAA has no salaries. NFL about 40% of revenues goes to players, in NCAA they pocket it all and give the players tiny scholarships in return. Actually, NCAAFB programs don't really "lose money". College football and basketball subsidize all other campus sports, and that includes the scholarships of the mostly female (thank you Title IX) student-athletes. so when you hear about college football losing money, you're not getting the real picture.

As well, big-time college sports provide the cultural glue that binds students, alumni and the broader campus communities, especially for bigger schools whose size makes them impersonal by nature. And that has a strong impact on alumni fundraising.

That's why you don't see many universities dropping college football. The only schools that did drop FB were places that never had bigtime programs in the first place, newer campuses or satellite schools like UCSB, Texas-Arlington or Northeastern U.

Only at shitty universities - the top 25 schools in the country won't care, especially the top 15.

If anything, college football would benefit from fans being turned off by NFL SJW hamsterism. NCAA FB used to be bigger before the NFL blew up, especially in urban markets like Chicago or San Francisco.

I don't know, they can just replace him anytime, since the majority of NFL owners are Jewish.

RE: The NFL is dying
Trump is doing what he did during the campaign, speaking what the average American is thinking, he spoke about immigration because nobody was doing it but Average Americans wanted somebody top do it, Trump is channeling this.

Trump is like a pressure cooker valve. The politicization of the NFL has gone for years but picked during the kneeling issue. Is not that is political, is that one one sided.

Years ago NFL banned Daniel Defense (gun manufacture) commercial because the logo has a gun on it, they also said they don't like to use politics in the game, but same Super Bowl Michael Bloomber's gun control commercial was allowed.

This is from 2013, way ahead of the time.

This is similar to what happens with Hollywood, you have people shitting on the American people and then expecting the same people to pay for their entertainment, they forget is a privilege FOR THEM WE PAY TO SEE THEM, not the other way around, at the end of the day, WE ARE THE CUSTOMERS.

But the NFL is in worse position than Hollywood, because the NFL does not make money from overseas, is 100% American, not other place on the planet watch or consume NFL.

Now, you have a situation with players kneeling, Trump is channeling a frustration, Average Joe spends his day working his ass off to be able to pay the bill for the month, get home to relax and is met with players making hundred of millions of dollars in a few years complaining about how bad this country is to him and others. Imagine how he feels, he is happy he makes enough money to have a roof over his head, loves his country, and he is watching players making millions of dollars talking crap about his country.

Trump is speaking for the Silent majority on NFL fanbase.

"Only Rosie O'Donnell" Donald Trump

Agree completely with the first part kosko, but in the age of skyrocketing tuition, schools are no longer taking advantage of athletes, a 4-yr out of state FB schollie at Michigan or UCLA is worth nearly a quarter million dollars. Not to mention admission to top colleges.

Not that there isn't some academic abuse at the football factories, but a large number of student-athletes do take advantage of their educational opportunities. Graduating with crushing debt is not something they will experience.

They've both been strangely quiet the last couple of days.

I'm waiting to see the (if any) response or criticism regarding the Steelers antics today.

Lifelong Steelers fan, and I'm disappointed in the team, save for Villanueva.

Tomlin said the players wanted to take themselves out of this situation by staying in the locker room and not going outside to kneel. But then you have Villanueva with balls of steel.

Honestly, I think Cowher would have told the team to get their asses out there and stand with their hands on their hearts. He's certainly no fan of this whole Colin K. saga.

The good thing is I've been unable to watch games very well the last few seasons because of the time zone difference. Now I won't be tuning in at all.

Baseball's demographics doesn't lend itself well to this type of protest. Now the NBA you have a point - I'm surprised the protest didn't start in the NBA and instead it did in the NFL.

The NBA is more of a 'democrat' league and the biggest stars are bigger than any nfl star.

RE: The NFL is dying
This has been making the rounds online:

TAKE A KNEE.

Take a little trip to Valley Forge in January. If you don’t know where that is, just Google it from the sidelines. Hold a musket ball in your fingers and imagine it piercing your flesh and breaking a bone or two. There won’t be a doctor or trainer to assist you until after the battle, so just wait your turn. Take your cleats and socks off to get a real experience. Then take a knee.

Then, take one at the beach in Normandy where man after American man stormed the beach, even as the one in front of him was shot to pieces…the very sea stained with American blood. The only blockers most had were the dead bodies in front of them, riddled with bullets from enemy fire.

Take a knee in the sweat soaked jungles of Vietnam. from Khe San to Saigon… Anywhere will do. REAL Americans died in all those jungles. There was no playbook that told them what was next, but they knew what flag they represented. When they came home, they were protested as well..and spit on for reasons only cowards know.

Take another knee in the blood drenched sands of Fallujah in 110 degree heat.. Wear your Kevlar helmet and battle dress… Your number won’t be printed on it unless your number is up! You’ll need to stay hydrated but there won’t be anyone to squirt Gatorade into your mouth. You’re on your own.
There’s a lot of places to take a knee. Real Americans have given their lives all over the world. When you use the banner under which they fought as a source for your displeasure, you dishonor the memories of those who bled for the very freedoms you have. That’s what the red stripes mean. It represents the blood of those who spilled a sea of it defending your liberty.

While you’re on your knee, pray for those that came before you, not on a manicured lawn striped and printed with numbers to announce every inch of ground taken….but on nameless hills and bloodied beaches and sweltering forests and bitter cold mountains…every inch marked by an American life lost serving that flag you protest.

No cheerleaders, no announcers, no coaches, no fans…just American men and women…delivering the real fight against those who chose to harm us…blazing a path so you would have the right to “take a knee.”
You haven’t an inkling what it took to get you where you are; but your “protest” is duly noted. Not only is it disgraceful to a nation of real heroes, it serves the purpose of pointing to your ingratitude for those who chose to defend you under that banner that will still wave long after your jersey is issued to another…

If you really feel the need to take a knee, come with me to church on Sunday and we’ll both kneel before Almighty God. We’ll thank Him for preserving this country for as long as He has. We’ll beg forgiveness for our ingratitude for all He has provided us. We’ll appeal to Him for understanding and wisdom. We’ll pray for liberty and justice for all….because He is the one who provides those things.
And there will be no protest. There will only be gratitude for His provision and a plea for His continued grace and mercy on the land of the free and the home of the brave. It goes like this…
GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Summary: Coach wanted the Steelers players to come up with a unified action. Since not everyone could agree on one thing, they decided as a team to not come out. This was not a protest for or against Trump or for or against taking a knee, this was removing themselves from the situation. They don't want to be a part of the politics, they just want to play ball.

Also the title of the vid is click-baity. He was miffed that Villanueva came out to stand for the anthem, but at the same time he supported whatever actions he felt his players needed to take.

That was actually a very well thought out and well articulated point.

I see a lot of people on Facebook that are disgusted with the NFL. The Baltimore Ravens, in particular, took a knee during the National Anthem but stood for "God Save The Queen".

America is not perfect. Never has been and never will be but it does afford these spoiled brats with a pretty good lifestyle. My interest in the NFL has been lacking for a long time but now I am done.

I salute Alejandro Villanueva of the Steelers for his actions. He is a man's man.

If it's any consolation to those angry with the protesting just remember that over 80% of NFL players are broke within three years of retiring.

Odds are the athletes who are dumb enough to protest are the same ones who lack long term thinking in terms of planning for the future, as evidence by their actions to bite the hand that feeds them. This means the protesting athletes will be broke at a rate higher than the average of 80%.

RE: The NFL is dying
Guess I'm going to be the guy to go a little against the grain on forum opinion with this subject. I've said before in this thread I'm a huge fan of the NFL and sports in general and consider myself knowledgeable on the subject, so I openly admit I have a bias with this compared to you guys.

Last year when Kaepernick started this protest, I supported him not because of BLM, but because he was exercising free speech and I thought at the time it took guts to use the platform the way he did. I'm not going back from that position considering he lost his job over this protest. Call him an idiot, it's fair, but nevertheless the guy tried to stand up for what he thought was right just like we do with men's rights.

Now that I'm done with that, I was hoping that the kneel protest would go a lot farther than it has when it first started. I felt like it would be a movement to address ALL American issues at the time and I thought BLM would just be the tip of the iceberg. I was wrong on the second part and I'm disappointed I was wrong because this had potential to address a lot more issues than mere identity politics.

I don't think Trump should've gotten involved with the NFL. It's a battle he won't win. I agree with an earlier poster's point that Trump probably knew he could get the true nationalists on his side and admittedly, he's getting a small percentage of fans to boycott the sport, but football will not die because of a political protest. It's just a sideshow. Yes people are booing, but not nearly enough people will stop watching football because of it.

Football's real danger is the CTE revelation. Outside the Lines came out with a study that said it's dangerous for anyone under 12 to play tackle football because the brain is at its most sensitive developing stage and a bad concussion at that age can result in permanent injuries. Aaron Hernandez is also connected to CTE now, which is a HORRIBLE look for the NFL. Expect that family to get money in a lawsuit.

Again I'll stress, you guys can be happy with Trump pissing off the NFL, fans can be pissed at the protests, and we can pretend these protests are going to affect the future of the NFL. They won't. It's a sideshow in my eyes when it comes to the real threat to the NFL, which is clearly CTE.

I am interested to get in the mindset of an NFL owner right now. I don't buy for a second that they're happy about these protests, but Trump kind of forced their hand to stick by their brand with some owners going hand-in-hand with NFL players in the anthem protest today.

I'm the first to admit football is getting attacked left and right, but I don't want the sport to die. For those of you who want it to, just realize if football dies, we're dealing with the NBA being the most popular sport in America, which is the ultimate democrat sport.

Back to my point about these protests. As a sports fan and a defender of free speech, I don't give a shit what these guys do. Stand, sit, kneel, fuck a girl during the anthem for all I care. As RVF guys, I know we believe in nationalism, but I thought we were better than buying into cult nationalism and it kind of encourages that when we have people saying we basically can't criticize America with the "if you don't like it, leave" line. Honestly, I don't like the fact that the anthem is even in sports outside of the Olympics.

We're worldly guys and I believe RVF has more intelligence about the global community than most common Americans. A little nationalism is good, but let's act like world travelers and not put all of our eggs into this basket if we came from here. It'd be like me singing my home state anthem all the time.

As far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a player.

Yes, in the wrong venue and targeting the wrong symbol.

If there had been a police parade he'd have a leg to stand on, but the flag represents America as a whole. What's more, it's during an NFL game, not on Twitter, a political rally, or on a talk show. Everyone saw through the 'fro pick virtue signalling for what it was.

There's a proper time and place for everything.

Anyone who thinks that is a retard, plain and simple. Goodell has given ground on pretty much every important issue while bending over backwards to keep rapists (Big Ben) and child abusers (Adrian Peterson) on the field. It's well known that he colluded (in the actual sense) to keep CTE findings down.

He's also helped take the NFL to previously unthought of profit levels.

So no, I don't think there's any evidence that Goodell is going to be replaced by the EVUL JEWZ who apparently are overlords of everything, everywhere.

If you're not fucking her, someone else is.

Again I'll stress, you guys can be happy with Trump pissing off the NFL, fans can be pissed at the protests, and we can pretend these protests are going to affect the future of the NFL.

I think you are wildly underestimating the impact protesting will have on fans. 10-15 years ago, if you wanted to be entertained on a Sunday afternoon football was one of the best ways to pass the time. Today, there is an array of interactive video games, on demand movies/tv shows with devices like hulu/netflix, and literally an explosion of internet websites and youtube for additional content. If the NFL wants to insult its fans/customers don't be surprised when they switch to other programs/mediums for entertainment.

The actions of Colin Kapernick and a few other players taking their knee might have been forgivable for fans in the 2016 season since it was just a select number protesting. But when entire teams do not stand for the national anthem that will be seen as unforgivable to a majority of fans who love America and what it represents. Try and name another country where a sports team doesn't stand for its own national anthem before a sporting event? This is an unprecedented action and it has done irreparable damage to future viewership and fans of NFL teams. I predict at least 25% less viewers of games in the weeks ahead compared to the same time last year.

You're missing my overall point. What I've been saying since page 2 is that sports are not going down because of politics. The NFL's bigger problem is CTE. I get what you mean, people are pissed off and getting turned off from the protests. But most of these people will not go to the extreme and boycott the whole sport. The people that have stopped watching the NFL are doing it for a lot of other reasons. I'm saying CTE is a bigger issue because it is effecting the moral reputation of the league, the quality of play on the field with all of the new rules, and development in the future because a lot of parents are getting afraid to put their kids in the sport.

Also, you're insane if you think the NFL is going to have a 25% viewer decline in a couple weeks. People don't get turned off from sports that easily and a decent percentage of people support the protests. I don't think any country sings their national anthem before as many events as the United States either.

I don't disagree the NFL has a crisis on their hands, I just think you guys are putting too much weight on the political protests as their problem when it's a very small portion of their real long-term issues.

As far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a player.
