Lightbulb Assembling and training a local "a-team" for survival during conflict
We've talked a lot here about creating a local tribe of likeminded men, but now it's time to get a bit more specific on how this tribe can aid us in survival during a Civil War or sustained conflict scenario.

A good starting point is Selco's guide for surviving the Bosnian war, which I advise everyone to read.

Quote:Anyway, after one month or two, gangs started with their nasty job, hospital looked like butchery, police force vanished, 80 percent of hospital staff gone home.
I was lucky, my family was big in that time (15 members in one big house, 5-6 pistols, 3 Kalashnikov s) so we lived and survived, most of us.

I remember US Air force dropped MRE every 10 days (god bless USA for that) as help for surrounded city, it just was not enough. Some of houses had little gardens with some vegetables, most did not.

After three months rumors started about first deaths from starvation, deaths from low temperatures, we stripped every door , window frame from abandoned houses for heating, i burned all my own furniture for heating, lot of people died from diseases, mostly from bad water (two of my family members), we used rain water for drink, several times i ate pigeons, once i ate rat.

Money did not worth sh[it]..

we traded things, black market worked, few examples: for 1 corned beef can you could have woman for couple of hours(sounds bad, but it was reality) i remember, most of that womans were just desperate mothers, candles, lighters, antibiotics, fuel, batteries, rifle ammo and of course food, we fight like animals for that.

It won't be practical for us to go full-prepper, especially since most of us live in cities, so I think the best strategy is to (1) assemble trusted men, (2) develop their areas of expertise in peacetime, and (3) be ready to go full-prep when the writing is on the wall. I want to have a discussion with you guys here so I can publish a guide in the future for everyone to follow.

Some questions to get things started:

1. What is the minimum number of men your team should have to ensure survival? My guess is enough to cover shifts to watch any property you're holed up in while being able to deter larger gangs.

2. What specialties should the team have? At the minimum, you'll need a "soldier" (weapons expert), "farmer" (able to procure water and food, and make it last), and a "medic" (about to heal wounds, treat infections and illness). These areas will overlap in a team, but each person should be the "go to man" for certain problems.

3. How should each specialty train or prepare? What should the medic study or read? What is a basic arsenal for the soldier? What do men do in countries that don't allow weapons?

4. What will be the trigger point for the team to activate? Exactly when should they start prepping for the crisis and get ready for war? What are the minimal prepping requirements to survive a crisis of 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year?

5. How will you communicate in early stages of crisis? It must be assumed that all internet and telecommunications goes down. How will you maintain a connection with the outside world?

6. In prolonged crisis, how will you gather supplies? Will you conduct raids? Will you try to escape the country?

I think that's enough to get us started.

Knowing how to hunt and fish as well as cleaning, preparing and storing the meat will come in handy in a SHTF situation. During peaceful times these are fun hobbies and an excellent source of cheap, healthy food. If you don't know how to hunt or fish and are interested in learning there should be anglers and hunters groups in your town or city, many have Facebook groups and these guys are generally pretty open to teaching.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

RE: Assembling and training a local "a-team" for survival during conflict
I like the prepper stuff and there is a lot of useful stuff. Still there are different possibilities for different scenarios. For a full scale war, invasion army. Then yes leave the cities will be fine. Next thing, city isn't city. I guess be in NY or LA is quite different then a middle size town in Europe. In my town the people I know since I grow up there. We are not a village but you have a bunch of local people, some live in the outer areas with farms.
Also your apartment or house in a small town is a good base to defend. When your friends live just a few minutes away its also easy to do a patrol together to secure a certain district.
Stock food and medicine will be important. Check out watchpost, spots where you can observe the area the best. Get transportation done beside of cars. Also what dangers are to expect? Fight against an invasion force? Against the own police and military? Against the "refugees"? In my area for example, you don't have large scale arab gangs but in some other states in Germany they rule complete districts. I'm quite sure they will not travel all the way down south to go to a small town there. I expect a collapse of infrastructure and the big cities will the hot spots of violence. My preparation is running and fits quite well to my small town area. We can be in a mountain / forest area quite soon and also have some smaller forests around to build up some camps or places to hide some stuff.

Hardest part is to get some men together. I have friends that I know I can trust in such a situation but they are to busy with the illusion of their now reality. So there I have to wait for the trigger. Then there are other men that share similar views, with those I connect. The SAS and the German KSK operates in 4 man teams. I guess a group between 4 and 10 core members will be spot on. When you recruit new people do it in steps. Don't give away the full trust, give them small tasks, let them proof themselves. And I will stick to the people I know since Kindergarten, I grow up with. No matter how different our views are sometimes.

Personal its about secure the farms and the food supply, water sources and the houses. In my area I will have the most support from people because of origin, culture and language. At the end I see it also as my duty to fight for my soil. I don't see much possibility to do this from South America, Russia or Asia.

We will stand tall in the sunshine
With the truth upon our side
And if we have to go alone
We'll go alone with pride

For us, these conflicts can be resolved by appeal to the deeply ingrained higher principle embodied in the law, that individuals have the right (within defined limits) to choose how to live. But this Western notion of individualism and tolerance is by no means a conception in all cultures. - Theodore Dalrymple

Countries that don't allow weapons (like most cucked Western European countries) usually allow their citizens to register as hunters and own a rifle. No handguns, mind you, but rifles (with usually 2 or 3 shots enabled, no riot guns with many cartridges)...

In any case, look below at what motivated and organized patriots can achieve at sea... our task should be to emulate their successes, learn from their strength, tactics and solidarity, on the ground (not at sea).

For non-medically trained people trying to deal with sick people in low resource settings, I'd recommend ''Where there is no doctor'' and ''Where there is no dentist''. There are free versions floating around the net.

On top of the basics (covered in the above manuals), som reading on trauma medicine (preferably from battlefield manuals - I believe the US army has released some of it's older ones on the net) and wilderness medicine should be helpful.

Presumably there will be a breakdown in the supply of medication, so a working knowledge of medicinal herbs could be useful as a substitute. Ideally the medic would grow a small medicinal herb garden.

If you are planning on breeding with women, midwifery manuals are a must.

Ideally, some reading should be done on ethics and rationing. The medic will presumably be in charge of the very precious stock of antibiotics, and will have to make tough, difficult calls of when exactly to use them. It's better to have the cognitive tools to make these decisions before the actual crisis.

Edit: Oh, and wound care manuals. This is a good one, written specifically for 3rd world/low resource contexts:

for more advanced reading, the author wrote a wound care book specifically for doctors in 3rd world settings:

Yeah, but there's a lot of groups with that capacity. The one that comes to mind for me is biker groups. Most of the Harley riding types (even ones that aren't full blown "clubs") are tight knit enough to the point that they could trust each other for SHTF situation.

Speaking from military experience for size...we were living on a fairly remote location. Of course you CAN survive alone even as an individual. However to be able to keep it up in perpuitity most groups can do it starting at about 20 people. To have enough people that the constant pressure isn't tearing you down (and to have enough people to reliably maintain constant security) you'll want 50-100 people. Other studies have found that the optimal organization size is about 120, and my own personal experience backs that up where when I was in companies they started to become worse environments once you broke 100 people.

Speaking from food production...

There are ways of processing food to make it last for years. In the event of electrical outtage, you can say goodbye to fridges and freezers.

Your food processing depends largely on your geography. If you live in a dry, hot desert, you're going to be drying things. Lots of jerky.

If you live in a moderately cool, humid climate you can dry cure meats, but this is temperamental and can get people sick or worse if not done correctly.

Canning and jarring would be crucially important, and probably the best way to preserve nutrients and provide full meals.

I'd say the most basic necessities for proper food processing would be salt, cans, and jars, and the equipment for processing them, which are cheap and readily available, and fuel to boil water. Any hunter/farmer/cook should also be well versed in minimizing waste and extracting maximum calories/nutrients from raw materials.

You could go out and buy a lot of meat and vegetables right now, cook them into a stew, can them and put them in a cool cellar and you'd be set for months.

Like I posted already, I assume a group of 4 to 10 as a strong core will do well. Depending on the situation. The lager it get the more structure and organisation you need. Natural leaders will show, those that severed in the military, police, firefighters or other groups, also in companies that know how to deal with people.
Its also important to keep the spirit high, deal with negative behaviour of people. Panic attacks, etc.

Train with them. To running, fighting, hiking etc. Group activities that let you explore the area, strengthen the boundaries between the people and train the body for endurance and strength.

Depends on your worst case scenario and how your environment is. One month I consider the bare minimum. How will it start? Gangs show up? No more police? Downfall of the power grid? I guess when you have for a few days no access to the power grid or a gang show up in your once normal area then you know something is going on.

Regular personal meetings, like the activities mention at point 3. Keep in touch regular. Get a old radio and some walkie talkies. They are good to cover a smaller area. Maybe a funk station. When you have to cover a big area it will get worse.

Take a page from the original Illuminati's book and make sure your group only has five people in it, all of whom you trust. In some cases this is a lot harder to do than you might imagine, especially if you live in an area full of bedroom communities where people don't know their neighbors very well. My own little borough went "purple" last year (a red zone in the process of turning blue). Once that happens it's only a matter of months before Team Blue monopolizes the local town council meetings so they can pass resolutions that favor them.

I have mentioned before in a highly mobile society I would join a local Hunt and Fish a.k.a Rod and Skeet Shooting Club...

Skeet shooting is a skill designed to sharpen your foul hunting skills... pheasant, ducks, geese and wild turkeys can be a good source of protein along with pan fish and game fish...

Most pan fish have no limits and though small and boney quite tasty in a fish fry.

You will be among like minded men and no one effs with these clubs as many include powerful senior retired military and active LEOs.

If I had the budget and the space I would get one of these 2.5 ton military vehicles. You can get them with a multi fuel motor that can basically run on any type of fuel or oil and then build a camper out of it, solar panels, large water supply and large fuel tanks.

Its cheap and easy to have three months food, water and some basic things like hand cranked rechargeable torch, candles, water purifier and such in a cupboard at home.

Three months will mean you can stay off the streets, and safe until either the trouble has blown over (natural disaster, pandemic etc) or it doesn't matter anyway.

At least 4, but the more the better.

Quote:2. What specialties should the team have? These areas will overlap in a team, but each person should be the "go to man" for certain problems.

Those are all good specializations, but I would also recommend some cross-training so that everyone know how to basically handle a gun, do some gardening, and know some first aid.

Another good specialization might be communications (having one guy operate a HAM radio or something similar). That's about all I got for that.

Quote:3. How should each specialty train or prepare? What should the medic study or read? What is a basic arsenal for the soldier? What do men do in countries that don't allow weapons?

I'll just talk about the weapons part. Have enough ammo to completely reload your main firearm 25 times, and a sidearm 15 times, if you have it. Take a basic pistol or fighting rifle course, and then maybe more advanced courses. It also helps if the people in your group have firearms that use the same ammo/magazines.

Quote:4. What will be the trigger point for the team to activate? Exactly when should they start prepping for the crisis and get ready for war? What are the minimal prepping requirements to survive a crisis of 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year?

I think each individual team will have to decide a trigger point (to get ready for combat) on its own. But that will probably be when police - in multiple major cities - have trouble containing violent mobs. And start stocking supplies (like food and ammo) now while it's easy.

Quote:5. How will you communicate in early stages of crisis? It must be assumed that all internet and telecommunications goes down. How will you maintain a connection with the outside world?

Set up a battery for a HAM radio. Have a hand-crank AM/FM radio.

Quote:6. In prolonged crisis, how will you gather supplies? Will you conduct raids? Will you try to escape the country?

If you're in the countryside, you could hunt or fish. Not sure what to do in the city, other than to say that if you start running out of supplies, have a bug out-plan to get everyone to a different location that does. Use radio (if possible) to figure out the safest route.

I think it is only necessary to have enough supplies to survive a Katrina scale disaster, or a major west coast earthquake scenario. Beyond that, I'd apply existing forum advice. Have savings enough to be able to pick up and move to a different part of tbe country or the world, together with wife and children if married.

Be able to get out with little notice if needed, but be alert enough to sell real estate in the troubled region, or be able to hold onto it until after the danger has passed.

Maintain widely marketable skills, so you can make money anywhere. Have a side hustle in addition to your main career. Stay up to date with the cutting edge in your field. This advice will handle almost any scenario, including the Bosnian conflict, and other recent conflicts and collapses.

I know many people living in these conflict regions are screwed, but just about every person reading this forum can make themselves anti-fragile to the point where they can use this approach.

I know people who got out of Ethiopia in 1974 using this approach. I bet many other members know examples of this personally, and I bet some have done it themselves, or were gotten out by their parents.

I'm the tower of power, too sweet to be sour. I'm funky like a monkey. Sky's the limit and space is the place!

Very good to think of this now and not later.

Arms and armor will be vital. On the forum there is this: How To Make A Bow (there is also a video in there about how to make one from PVC)

A sling shot with 1/2" steel ball ammo will hurt a lot.

For armor, I read in a post some time back about using a motor bike suit.

I respect that, but the things discussed herein may be useful to your family, so talking about it with men from the forum won't hurt you or lessen your odds of survive in such a scenario.

I'm lucky in that I come from a family with a number of military men. I also have a few cousins who are doctors.

Wouldn't be easy to survive but it's a lot better having dudes who know how to fight and shoot and dudes who can heal people.

I imagine my family would need to put skill points into farming and animal husbandry, though. lol

I did not mention recruiting from the forum. Not sure why you responded with only that concern when I suggested many other questions.

Forum can be a tool to find like-minded men, but only after you have met up and established some basic identical wavelength - built rapport.

Also you would have to live close to each other to be of use in an emergency situation like a breaking out of civil war. If you are a single guy in a city, then just packing up your stuff, grabbing some guns and shooting your way to freedom and a place where there is no war - that is the easiest option.

As for logistics and training. I think it boils down to 2 things:

1) Basic infrastructure like weapons, emergency provisions and water - various utilities as well as manuals and how-to guidelines

2) Knowing men who you trust and who would be willing to fight beside you.

Training such a man right next to you is not that tough - everyone can be useful in some capacity. The problem is more the selection of the person you trust. If you have similar aligning interests and are willing to function in a survival unit, then it does not matter too much if that man has fired 10 shots in his life.

Selco's Bosnian survival guide is all good and well, but it is dependent on a Balkan-war scenario where they did not encounter truly militarized units who would have blown them away with a tank. They protected each other against hunger, cold and roving bands of bandits. Also they could not move because they also had woman and children among them and in addition tried to defend their property.

Let us assume that we are a merry group of expats living in Poland. I know some forum members living here and I know if those guys decided to band together, then I could trust them. Why should be stay in a bloody city and defend our flats?

I would take some camping gear and supply and move my merry unit of men to the largest woods around. We can all live off game and hunker down in the woods indefinitely. Also we could make forays into the cities and fight a very effective guerilla warfare - maybe give some lost teenage girls some protection and have some Robin Hood time in the woods with pretty lasses.

In short - have some basic supplies, have a plan, have some men ready who can fight with you. That would be all.

RE: Assembling and training a local "a-team" for survival during conflict
Many old school alternatives that shouldn't be discarded.

-Slings/slingshots (you can get creative with what kind of ammo you use, specially if you know some chemistry/explosives. On that note :Mortars (easy to make both the cannon and the ammo)
-bows (Sterling Archer recently posted an excellent datasheet on how to make one)
-BB guns (some may remember a post once asking about alternatives to guns as I was having a string of bad luck running into boars during my vagabonding in Northern Europe and some posters revealed some pretty damn powerful rifles out there).

How realistic are the possibilities of crafting a home made rough shotgun?

We move between light and shadow, mutually influencing and being influenced through shades of gray...

RE: Assembling and training a local "a-team" for survival during conflict
1. What is the minimum number of men your team should have to ensure survival? My guess is enough to cover shifts to watch any property you're holed up in while being able to deter larger gangs.

To increase odds of success, 3 Teams of 4 people (12).
Each Team has an 8 hour shift of "Watch and Protect"
Each Team has an 8 hour shift of "Sleep Time"
Each Team has an 8 hour shift of "Productivity Time"

Skills are secondary to the Quality of the Man.
If the Man is of very High Quality (Alpha/Red Pill), he can be trusted to learn new skills, implement those skills, emotionally handle the situation and not put his Team in danger.
Example: Thirsty Beta gets everyone killed for a 1% chance of nailing a bitch he has no chance with.

3. How should each specialty train or prepare? What should the medic study or read? What is a basic arsenal for the soldier? What do men do in countries that don't allow weapons?

Others above have made great suggestions already,
also the Bow Data Sheet by Sterling Archer will come in handy here.

4. What will be the trigger point for the team to activate? Exactly when should they start prepping for the crisis and get ready for war? What are the minimal prepping requirements to survive a crisis of 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year?

If you listen to Jocko Willink Podcast, he would insist the best time to Prepare is Right Now.

5. How will you communicate in early stages of crisis? It must be assumed that all internet and telecommunications goes down. How will you maintain a connection with the outside world?

Stock up on Batteries and go Full-Walkie-Talkie, eventually we can develop our own mish-mash of undecipherable language like the characters in the Minions movie so our Communications won't be compromised by eaves droppers.

6. In prolonged crisis, how will you gather supplies? Will you conduct raids? Will you try to escape the country?

Follow the Seasons like nomads, a Tribe of Movers.
Forget sitting still and getting predictably conquered by better strategists.
Be unpredictable, learn how to navigate and prosper over thousands of miles of terrain.

RE: Assembling and training a local "a-team" for survival during conflict
I would suggest the following book - Survival Theory: A Preparedness Guide

I have no affiliation with the author, but I can say that it's one of the best, most comprehensive books on prepping and surviving that I've ever read. He was a USAF SERE instructor who now works as an emergency preparedness consultant. The dude knows his shit front-to-back and, while there's no one correct way to prepare since all our situations are different, this should give you a lot to work with.

I will say that some of the advice, particularly the weapons stuff, is more geared toward an American audience, but there's tons of info that can apply no matter where you are. Also, the focus is primarily on bugging out to a safer location, so it may not be the best if you're dead set on trying to survive in an urban environment. Then again if your only option is urban survival you're already at a severe disadvantage. He also delves into assembling and training your "A-team" as Roosh put it.

The fact is, much of the advice you'll hear on this subject is woefully misguided, even some advice that comes from so-called "experts." That shit will get you and your tribe killed in a real survival situation. Most people have no idea just how difficult it is to actually survive a societal collapse, and they're fooling themselves if they think that they and their buddies will be able to waltz off into the woods and just start living off the land. If you don't already have the skills, resources, and planning in place beforehand, you're likely fucked six ways from Sunday. Unfortunately most of us are in this situation, so it's good that we're having this discussion.

RE: Assembling and training a local "a-team" for survival during conflict
I'm going to apologise in advance for slaughtering some sacred cows here, and I wish I had the time/energy to go into detail but I'm back into a sickness slump and also have a lot of other stuff going on.

Regardless, this is a field of "expertise" which is riddled with misinformation largely peddled by armchair hacks. Roosh has picked probably the best blog about such situations, which despite being linked to by many highly rated survivalist websites actually lays most of its competition bare as dangerously delusional tripe.

As many as you can get that you can trust implicitly. Not only morally, but to not crack under extreme pressure. If you can't find even a single person that fulfils that criteria then you are literally better off alone.

Quote:2. What specialties should the team have? Be very specific on what your plan is. City evac? Hostile territory staking? Every member should more or less be proficient in every task. Part of the bonding process is teaching each other before shit goes south. That way if your medic is the first one to catch a bullet then you're not all completely screwed.

Quote:3. How should each specialty train or prepare? What should the medic study or read? What is a basic arsenal for the soldier? What do men do in countries that don't allow weapons?

Big topic. Yuge. More later.

Quote:4. What will be the trigger point for the team to activate? Exactly when should they start prepping for the crisis and get ready for war? What are the minimal prepping requirements to survive a crisis of 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year?

This is honestly the first question to ask. "What constitutes an OMG situation?" When to start preparing is pretty easy. The hackneyed but correct answer is "yesterday".

Quote:5. How will you communicate in early stages of crisis? It must be assumed that all internet and telecommunications goes down. How will you maintain a connection with the outside world?

Two way radios will likely still work at short distances. When it comes to long distance listening is a lot easier than talking if you're planning on being mobile. Serious national disruptions of the internet and cell networks probably qualify for that aforementioned "OMG situation".

Quote:6. In prolonged crisis, how will you gather supplies? Will you conduct raids? Will you try to escape the country?

In a prolonged crisis you will not be gathering supplies or conducting raids. "Living off the land" is a farcical militia myth that would be extremely difficult in perfect circumstances much less when several million men with barely used deer rifles and fishing rods simultaneously decide to go Davy Crockett into the nearby national forests. Most people that imagine this option picture an endless summer of lightly wooded forests teeming with deer and fresh mountain streams brimming with trout that virtually jump into your frying pan. Picture instead a bitterly cold winter where rain followed by a snap frost finally overcomes your emaciated body which has been suffering from a calorie deficient diet for 3 months.

Before I go spend some more time throwing up I'll just say this.

1) Have a bag ready to go that you take with you everywhere you possibly can. It must have everything you need to get to your>

2) First cache of supplies buried somewhere along the hiking trail you're taking to your>

3) Survival destination, which is a proper rural house owned either by you or a family member you have pre-arranged to take you in.

I can put it no more simply than this.

If your plans involve an extended stay in a tent then you're a dead man.

More to follow when I can hold my chow down.
