This is what I would do.

1 Read Leonard's earlier post about writing notes that are admissible in court.

2 Talk to your attorney friend and get his recommendations for writing notes, dating those notes, possibly emailing the notes to him, etc.

3 Write everything down about both the incident with the girl and the incident with her father.

4 If you said some things or did some things that you should not have then write those things down in a separate document however don't hide that information from your attorney. Let your attorney know everything. You were acting out of emotion and made some very bad decisions. I'm not trying to be difficult with you but I think it is possible that you aren't telling us everything.

5 Review this thread and read it slowly. Maybe guys were piling it on but in my opinion you made a few horrible decisions and you should think hard about how to handle these situations differently in the future. For example, there is no reason whatsoever to give out your phone number and address so carelessly.

6 Be patient and don't talk the local police about the father unless you continue to get watched or harassed in which case you should talk to your attorney again. Hopefully this blows over but you don't have much to gain by going after him. If you go after him you need to be thinking about moving, selling your car and buying a new car, concealing your identify so his local police friends can't harass you, etc. It's a no win situation. It's also going to require you to waste time and money for attorney fees.

Questions:

What do you know about the father? Did you get his last name and badge number?

Are you a minority? Is the father white?

You said police officers have driven by your house twice. Do you live on a residential street where it is unusual for them to be driving through so frequently?

If anything, tell her to fuck off, watch where the fuck she's going, and tell her to fuck off again and be on your merry way.

I'd also tell her and point to the nearest building that it has cameras and that would prove she almost hit me backing out and she could've been held liable for bodly harm (bsing law language)

The cop doesn´t know what happened. From your version and his daughter version. Only thing he can be certain something happened which disturbed her. He will not care about your reasons. His conclusion will be you somehow threatened her in some way or another.

Since you gave him your adress he knows your not guilty, neither did you do anything serious. Or at least presumes. Only a innocent dumbass would give his adress to a cop. He probably wants to be sure you got the message not to mess with his daughter.

Don´t make any complaint against him. Unless this escalates further. If it escalates leave the city. If you fight with pigs you will get dirty. Even if you win.
Maybe hire a criminal lawyer give some cash for him to put a good word for you with the chief of the precinct.

A good solution would be to have some family or friend in the force who could reach to him.

The law as so many ways to fuck you. And you don´t want to know them. The law as became so corrupt. Stay away from it.

Time for a vacation.

I'm not trying to fearmonger. Perhaps there's nothing to worry about.

But when someone outnumbers and outguns you, has shown they're unstable and/or ready to play unfair, and knows where you live, it's nice to have the freedom to disappear for a while and let things die down.

I don't know if you have set up your life with that luxury, but flexibility is an asset in a situation like this. If you have, it might not be a horrible time to use it. Check with your lawyer's opinion on this first, of course.

You can sit back and hope nothing happens and perhaps nothing will. You'll stress yourself out in a million ways worrying regardless, and who knows what kind of a power-hungry loose cannon you're dealing with. Or you can go ghost for a while and let nature run its course.

My God, why in the hell did you give the girl your contact information? And why in the blazing fuck did you give your address to her father when he called you? I'm honestly trying to understand your thought process here. What did you think was going to happen? That you and her father would sit down together over a beer and have a laugh about how silly women can be?

The girl's version of what happened most likely went something like, "This random guy started banging on my window and threatened to rape me. I backed him off a little because of my grrl power but he wouldn't leave and continued to say he wanted to have sex with me and was even so weird he gave me his phone number. It was really scary, please go teach him a lesson, Dad." Or something similarly insane. But of course her father would believe every word she said and take her side over yours. You are just some random guy off the street from his perspective. And there's nothing men are more protective over than their daughters.

Why didn't you just laugh at the girl, tell her to fuck off and leave? I know hindsight is 20/20 here, but come on. You've already received good advice on what to do next, so I have nothing to add there. But for everyone else reading, for the love of God, if you find yourself in a similar situation, just get the hell out of there.

Do NOT talk to the police
Do NOT give random people your contact info (unless forced to, i.e. auto accident)
Do NOT give out your address to people you don't know

Seriously, unless you were the outright victim of a crime (i.e. your car gets stolen and you have to report it) do NOT talk to the police. You never stand to gain anything. They aren't looking to exonerate you, they're looking for evidence to put you away. They are never your friends. They aren't there to protect you or help you get justice. At best they are neutral parties who will write up a report of what happened. But don't even count on that.

And more to the point, do your best to avoid crazy people and drama, especially emotionally charged drama involving men's wives and daughters. Guys get killed over stupid shit like that every day. And if you're going to dip your toe in that pond, at least make sure the payoff is worth it. In this case there was no payoff whatsoever. It was pure downside risk from the word go.

The key takeaway:

AVOID CRAZY PEOPLE
DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER

That would be critical to my strategy in your situation.

Big city cops certainly have their "shit lists" of people that they will harass when they get the time, but generally they have far more on their plate, than to worry about petty stuff like this.

Small town cops are an entirely different matter. Their mentality in much more in-group/out-group and they get bored easily. If you are with the in-group, you got nothing to worry about, but if you get relegated to the out-group...my advice is to move. Once that happens in a small town, you are fucked for life.

Then now is the time to renew some of those acquaintances. Since you know some of them personally, even tenuously...sound them out on this incident. Presuming you are a law-abiding citizen, they may help.

That said- do NOT trust them.

Cops tend to side with their own, sometimes even over their own family. They have been rightfully labelled the Blue Mafia for a reason. Daryl Gates tried to combat this mentality when he was police chief of Los Angeles...with exactly zero success.

Leonard D Neubache had some stellar advice earlier in this thread about documenting everything that has happened so far. Absolutely do that, but if you find the local cops have put you on their shit list...time to start packing.

To our discharge, unless one has lived in North America, one could not understand the (relative, though) importance of a situation that, outside of Northern America, would be a total non-event, a joke.

I mean, for a European or Asian, this event is almost incomprehensible. To begin with, how can a woman actually raise her voice at a man in the street? (if from EE or SEA, how can a chubby-5 own a car?) How can the aggravated man not just push her away? How can a man give his phone number to such a crazy woman? How could a cop bother to investigate such a bullshit incident, and have the nerve to show up at your place (in EE or SouthAm, said cop would get a beating)?

That is why it is difficult to take this event as a serious problem or danger, but ok, I have lived in Northern America, and understand that yes, it is a (moderately) dangerous situation for the OP. Let him follow the good, cautious advice written here, without too much paranoia though.

If you know half the police force, can't you ask a buddy of yours in the force to placate the other guy (unless it is just "knowing" the guys by seeing)? They likely know each other. All you did was slap his daughter's car as she almost hit you with the car. It only got out of hand, but there is nothing to it.

Here's what he did: first, he said "Hey lady, watch where you're driving, you almost hit me!" When she acted petulant, and threatened him with authority, he said "Really? I did nothing wrong, you cunt. Go on, bring the Justice, you're the one who almost hit me." When the cop called him, and pretended to be reasonable, he said "Hey man, I have nothing to hide; I'm law abiding, an open book. Come on over, let's discuss this like men."

NONE of this, by itself, is foolish on un-virtuous; this sort of behaviour is how we managed to get by without police departments for centuries. This is how any real man would have behaved 50 years ago.

Was it a poor decision in the modern environment? Yes - but the instincts that led to it were the instincts of a healthy, decent man.

Adam Corolla once said that kids of police officers are usually messed up big time. I would avoid, avoid, avoid. Giving this girl your personal information was a huge mistake.

Cops love to throw their weight around when they aren't on duty. He has the badge pass. You don't. He knows that he can come over to your horse and kill you in cold blood and that NOTHING will happen to him.

It sounds like you could have just walked away from this. Why didn't you?
