Yes London is crazy expensive for anyone not earning top dollar.
If you pay 1500£ rent in a zone 3 average one bed room granny flat and add food, transport and entertainment you will be somewhere around 2500£.

So that's 30k per year in expenses. So you need to earn 50k which will be around 35k net?(guess) just to cover that.

Pints in central London or the city are now pushing towards 5.50£ in regular pubs

Food is affordable and clothes as well as there are so many options out there.
It's really mainly rent and ah... rent

I'm talking about the imperial wharf apartments. The complex is very nice. Just judging by the cars coming in and out. The area is very close to Stamford bridge. The walk this morning was roughly 15-20min

Yes good point, same applies to many areas in London. Lambeth for example has many very nice streets. Full of townhouses that back off into council estates that will be full of gang members. The townhouses are sometimes next door to crackhouses, and the residents get upset when they find crackheads sleeping in their doorways.

World's end estate has a bad reputation for a reason. Many parts of Westminster are run down, especially on the outskirts. If you are talking about places such as Pimlico or the North End of regents park. Immigrant gangs from Morocco and such places.

The rental prices in London are a complete joke, there may be areas which you could find a nice room for £800 a month such as Putney. Aside from that you willl be spending 600/700 a month for a flat share with five other people, in a very bad area next to crackheads. But it's London, so people will go along with this anyway.

I'm a londoner born and raised (yea how rare!) and I live in the most prime location in London i'd say - the centre of zone1 near west end, big ben, bucking palace, you name it. The issue is it's my mums place bwahaha. I don't take chicks back to mine so my only criteria is if a chicks got her own place i can go to bang. which i'm finding is increasingly rare with most chicks flar-sharing or even room sharing!

I've thought a lot lately about how the impact these insane house prices are directly having affecting people to have sex in this city. I've lost count the amount of times i've had a girl up for banging and can't go hers so just have to eventually next (hotel at least 80 pound a night and tbh i might as well bang a prozzie then as i see it.

Anyway i'm going to eventually move up north to a cheaper city where i can get a nice 1bed in the centre for 25% of the price. but until then i've simply been working 6 months a year stacking cash then having epic long holidays abroad for 3-5 months from colombia brazil peru thailand etc every year getting laid and having fun - for less money than i would have spent just paying the rent for a shitty box flat in london . only this tactic is keeping me sane!

Living alone in central London is a glorious luxury only available to the lucky few.

Flat sharing is very common, no normal girl is going to give a shit if you have flatmates and you're under 30, I would say it's the norm for most people here in London. Above this age, it becomes far more important to have your own place.

However, I can assure you it is really not required to live centrally, particularly with the introduction of the 24 hour tube on the central, northern, jubilee, victoria and piccadilly lines making logistics a breeze.

So if you focus on the areas located on these tube lines alone, and eliminate the shithole parts along with the horrendously expensive parts, you arrive at a fairly short list of options:

Kentish Town / Tufnell Park / Archway
Decent area, lots of pubs, not too expensive, loads of professionals, close to centre. A few bad council estate areas but nothing too awful.

Highgate / East Finchley / Finchley Central
Quieter, more suburban, very few bad parts, bit further away but still easy access to town. Not too expensive. Not much nightlife. Highgate quite trendy and bit pricier than finchley which has a lot of eastern europeans.

Woodside Park / Totteridge & Whetstone / High Barnet
More suburban and quiet but no bad parts at all really, still lots of professionals, bit leafier and family orientated so it's more boring and unfashionable.

Golders Green / Hendon
Close to centre, not too expensive, big jewish contingent but so what, suburban character but nearer than the outer northern line stations. No real nightlife, bit boring and unfashionable.

Highbury
Great nightife on upper street, very close to centre, young professionals. Posh and trendy. Bit more expensive than some other areas on this list.

Bounds Green / Arnos Grove
Dull unfashionable area with no nightlife but can be really quite cheap and no terrible areas, lots of eastern europeans.

Southgate / Oakwood
Very suburban family feel but quiet area with very few bad bits. Bit far away but will be a lot cheaper, possibly cheapest on this list.

West Hampstead / Kilburn
Trendy area and quite expensive. Some half decent bars around here and very close to centre. Some parts of kilburn may require a stab proof vest but it's improving.

Canada Water / Canary Wharf / North Greenwich
Boring area for finance professionals working in canary wharf but does have some decent new build apartments that can be rented very cheaply given how quickly you can reach central. Soulless tho.

Clapham / Balham
Loads of nightlife and lots of young people who think it's trendy. Bit of a shithole and overpriced, quite dangerous as most of south London is. But young people seem to love it here.

Wanstead / Woodford / Buckhurst Hill /Loughton
Very leafy and posh areas, you will feel like you are in the country and you are indeed quite far away from central and technically in the county of essex so rents can be a lot cheaper. Has some decent bars in the TOWIE genre

If I was a newbie coming to London on a basic salary I would just live in one of the above areas and commute into the centre for work and going out. It's just how things are done here...

If you can afford to live in London, then move to Manhattan if you can take off from work and handle visa problems. Much better weather, much better city, much better girls.

If I can afford it, I wouldn't step a foot outside of Manhattan rest of my life.

Really the only way I see London working is if you work in the city, ie. Bank, Liverpool street etc and clear 75.000£ or more a year.
That's just my take and I am sure you can have a blast if you work in domino's or have a regular 9-5 making "middle class salary" but I have been here for a decade and I can't see the reason anything below of 75k£ amount makes it worthwhile.
It can feel brutal for the working class. The weather is awful half the year, the other half it's a mixed bag.

However for career minded people it's an enormous hub and surely one of the greatest platforms in the world to work yourself up the ranks.. if you can deal with starring out at the bottom that is.

I love London but it's full of robots just making ends meet.. don't be one of them. Be great or go somewhere happy.

You need to be plugged into a pretty strong social ecosystem with decent connectors to thrive in London. Unless you're big into nightlife industry, which will give you access to parts of the city that would otherwise be off limits, I'd look elsewhere.

@Advance is right, you still can have a blast having a middle class salary, but with that money you can have a blast 10x better in EE for instance.

If I would work for a company in the UK but not living there you still have to pay taxes?
I looked into https://www.gov.uk/tax-right-retire-abroad-return-to-uk and apparently you don't have to, anyone can confirm it?

I've lived in both. The winters in New York are much more brutal. Yes before/after summer is much better but then you live in concrete and have no where to go to apart from Boston which has next to nothing, compared with 50 pound flights from london to many places in Europe. The worse thing about New York though is the American culture of your life is your work and you barely get any holidays.

New York is a million times better for parties and women. London is not in the same league for that.

Ideally it's best to avoid both unless your goal is to be a hotshot banker/lawyer.

What do you mean, you have no where to go to apart from Boston? If you want some parks and all green environment other than concrete, you can go to Long Island or Westchester. It's all green and only 30 mins away. That's why all the parties are in Hamptons during summer.

Yes, you're far away from Europe but who needs Europe when you're living in Manhattan anyway? You can find any girl from any nationality in New York. I can literally live in Manhattan without even stepping in Brooklyn, New Jersey or Queens rest of my life if I have enough money.

On the other hand, London is very weird in terms of weather. How can one city have 8 days of rain in middle of the June? What the hell is that? I came for 11 days and I've had to deal with rain for 8 days in summer.

Guys who don't know London, frankly this city is shit, Londoners themselves told me they are looking forward to getting the fuck out of here.

Guys here who tell you London is awesome are men who never lived in countries where women are beautiful and have good attitudes.

I am here since 4 months, have a flat since 3 months and fucked 8 chicks since I moved in, all with spending 0-30£. You might tell me it's not bad but I dont like the life here, I still think women here are charmless, argumentative and very money oriented, this city attracts the thirstiest girls from all over the world.

We are all different and I guess many of you guys are fine with sharing flats, like having a tiny room in a 3 bedroom apartment, spending 1h every morning in the tube to go to work and dealing with chicks who are 4 and act as if they are top models. Being late thirties I now have some standards in life and can't deal with girls having bad attitudes...

Many stuffs happened to me here, among them:

- A gorgeous brasilian with whom I spent 2 nights but who was caught by the police without a visa and sent back to Brazil (bad luck...)
- a crazy jamaican bitch who is stalking me,
- another one who went to the police after a text I sent her ( told her she is a starving east european gold digger that I would slap if she was in front of me), police office called me and I'm supposed to visit them to give them my version.

I am staying because I am setting up a company here, it takes time and is very painful, I also had a big sport injury few weeks ago which will require probably surgery so I m not the happiest man at the moment.

Just in few words, if you have other options dont come here, if you really want to come prepare the cash and be patient with chicks...

Im a londoner all my life and i would agree,

As many have said
There is some gorgeous woman here because its a big city 10 million people. But pound for pound there is not that many hot women, lets say for example the 100,000 girls that are above a 7.5, they have 5 million guys chasing them. Guys are much more into gym then the girls. And the native english girls are not attractive for the most part. its the foreign women that make it bearable just about.

There is not as much competition for an attractive girls as other cities.
If your a good looking girl in London its fantastic, wealthy guys will proposition you and wine and dine you. You will have the pick of the bunch.

I personally know lots of good looking guys in superb shape(competition level), with average looking, fat pigs, or slim very plan janes. These guys are happy with what they have. The could do a lot better but i think London culture is deep rooted in them and there expectations, almost subconsciously.

Typically the guy is better looking then the girl in the couple.

Any girl that is a natural 8 or 9 here with some brain cells will have a major come up here if she has a hustler mindset.

On most dating websites 80% are not attractive.

I am primarily into mixed, black and latina women, and i will be spending my time in between Medellin, Colombia and Dominican Republic for the next few years until im ready to make the move. There is no comparison at all.
Any mixed/latin and to a lesser extent black girl thats from London thats above a 8 has a long list of options, odds are not in your favour. There is too much rich guys in London and not enough attractive girls to stimulate any type of competition.

also as a side note, i remember in 2012 during the olympics being in victoria park where they were showing all the events on the big screen and london at the time had a cool energy about it. I remember distinctively in that park i was there all day i did not see barely 1 girl above a 6 and there was literally 10s of thousands of people. What made it even more crazy was i met up with a friend who said exactly the same thing. That was obviously bad day, but that would not be possible in a lot of cities in around the world.

There is good looking women here of course some gorgeous ones at that, but they know they are in the minority. and they can milk that completely.

For people that are into Urban women (black, mixed, latina) or the west end crowd, your going to notice more and more surgery, thighs and ass etc but that just makes them more gassed/up them self as there is still a high proportion of women with ok/average/below average figures.

And let me tell you i have dated some of the 8s and 9s here in London and they are very entitled, and a lot are ruined by it, there expectations are to be winded and dined. Unless you look like a male model or are rich then its a waste of time IMO. There is too much competition. They wont be satisfied.

I was in the Dominican Republic with women that look as good as Halle Berry in her prime that could compete with any of the American women you see on instagram, and they have a lot more humble mindset. Cook, Clean everyday know there role all of that. When i got back i realised something was not right with London society. But you never know until you travel more.

and i hear a lot of guys that are into white women go to Eastern Europe.

This is the way forward. If your on a decent income i would advise anyone to travel more as oppose to dealing with London women.

Exactly, deal with a 7+ from London and she will have a bad attitude 98% of the time.

Remember this is one of the richest places on earth. women here can get £100 a week plus there rent paid by the government for doing absolutely nothing. And for every baby extra money. This breeds entitlement

i know lots of good looking guys with there girlfriends that are- 7 face, 5 body, or 5 face, 5 body these guys workout to a enviable level, earn well do good. great personalities. I cant think of any guys i know who's girlfriends look better then they do. Most guys i know have settled below there level or if they have money generally at there level. Just look at english born premiership footballers, these guys earn £50,000-£100,000 a week and a lot of them are dating 6s and 7.5s (even ones they met after they became rich), that should say it all, the stock of attractive women is not where it should be. In Spain/latin countries, even america the male celebs have some gorgeous women.

If you are have A level game/social and good taste you can get a top woman, but there is going to be lots of competition, guys take gym serious here, a lot of attractive women have a legion of social media followers, its a lot to compete with, and what im saying has been mentioned by londoners on here already.

I don't live in London, but have done in the past and I always found it really good for black and mixed girls. Because of work, unfortunately the last time I was in London for a few days was for carnival last August, and I did very well for myself with black and mixed girls on both days, and saw loads of good looking girls around that were friendly and approachable (I will admit though that carnival is particularly laid back in that way, if you're friendly, you don't even really need game it's so calm).

I am looking forward to leaving London, I am completely fed up of the place. It's only because I love my job that I stay here and I know that it could potentially open up a location independent lifestyle for me in the relatively new future.

The city is ground zero for feminism and multiculturalism so people just hunker down. There are places and times that make the city decent to live in, particularly around the summer in the centre I am referring to mainly. However large chunks of London are frankly shit, I can't think of any decent area in East London, and I am talking about a metropolis that has 2.5-3 million people living there, that is saying something. Just an example, don't get me started on South London. The police have now set up 'witchcraft' squads to deal with rising cases of female genital mutilation and African 'cleansing' rituals. The social services, local authorities are now involved with organising training around his issues.

Problem is the city has a lot of money so it is able to cover up the cracks by large scale subsidies, council housing for example, mental health provisions. Bureaucracy that results in local services such as the police having to investigate 'malicious communications', which could simply be a text message telling somebody between partners saying 'fuck off'.

You can go down the path of gaming, but you need to be very persistent and approach when you are out and about I find. Even then as someone mentioned before, most of the girls are indoctrinated by feminism and have over inflated sexual market value due to the thirstiness of men. It makes seeking anything long term in terms of relationships less desirable.

The two reasons why London receives a plus to the outside world, is due to the history and tourism in the centre and because it is the perfect model for liberalism. Hence why it receives constant praise.
