Seeing the footage, the key fact is that a non-moron could have sensed that it was not the kind of party you waltz into expecting to politely ask the 'host' to turn down the volume, but a flash mob where one either avoids, joins, or calls the cop.

Flash mobs that loot retail stores or run around playing the knockout game, such as happened in Philadelphia recently and on the Washington DC metro, among other places, are a recurring problem the last couple of years in US cities. Putting them on notice that they're being watched and will not be able to get away with it anymore will help our communities be safer for law-abiding citizens.

The woman was the manager of the neighborhood homeowners association and called the police before she went over to tell them to turn the music down. The kid was drunk, and for what is is worth he is ashamed of his behavior. He turned himself in, and fessed up to the police, he reportedly said "he messed up and he had to own up to it". He lived in the neighborhood and she knew who he was, he is a 16 year old high school student.Everyone at the party was well aware they went too far, they all ran away immediately following the incident.

Fortunately the woman only has some superficial bruises, it could have been a lot worse.

It's because whenever the black-attack-on-white-video-of-the-week-pops-up, that comment archetype is made in frequency across the interwebs from black supremacists to Joe Watercooler to actual white supremacists, and many people in between.

It's really a toss-up; not too many comment archetypes can claim that sort of popularity among such varied groups.

Yeah, he was really playing manslaughter-roulette there. I felt a sensation of relief, for both of them, when it seemed like she was moving in the pool.

He doesn't/didn't have too many options other to turn himself in. It is/was but in his own best self-interest.

Them running away hardly showed some "moment of clarity." It was more like fleeing the scene of the crime, literally and figuratively.

There is extended video available all over the internet and the story is on CNN-They interview the lady, and show the video of everyone and two of the woman's dogs running away from the scene after she was thrown in. I am not making excuses for any of those kids,they fucked up,and that shit is on them.

4 chan is a community like any other and it has its fair share of different shades of people. Nowhere in my post does it even begin to make it look like I admire them for their very existence.

A couple years would be fucking excessive. Shit when I was a kid before $500+ cell phones, throwing people in a pool was not that uncommon as a "prank". This really baffles me that this is national news, I can think of dozens of incidents as a kid where people actually ended up in the hospital and they were never a blip on anyones radar.

Community service, pay a fine, maybe probation, we don't need to go full police state over this.

Yes--there is no way this rises to the level of a "couple years." One of the first posts decried the fact that the "MSM" hadn't covered this, yet it actually was covered on a Dallas CBS affiliate I believe. In any event, this is not--nor should not--be national news and is not emblematic of a pervasive problem within the culture. Yes, it's a bunch of kids acting shitty, and the behavior is indefensible.

However, the rush to lock up the "thugs" makes me wonder: if this was a group of Red Sox fans (who have had their problems lately...) or loud frat guys throwing an older black woman in a pool, would this thread exist?

Well its a good thing that in my original post I already said he should be punished, so I'm not sure who this post is addressing. Also, he clearly tripped on the concrete. Again, as I said he should be punished for attempting that maneuver. All I'm saying is that 2 years jail is fucking excessive.
