Okay, for example you're living in a place for a few weeks to a few months at a time, and don't need to work (no online business), don't do day game, and have done all the tourist shit. While you're waiting for the nightlife to kick off, what do you do during the day? I've found this to be my biggest problem as I'm a night owl and have no motivation to do anything during the day, which becomes depressing after a while. I try to find a gym a few times a week but that only fills in an hour or so. Usually have 8 hours free with nothing to do other than bum around reading the internet, whereas if I were home I would be at work, training/playing with my sports team, seeing family/friends etc.

How do you deal with this?

Especially in cities or places without beaches this becomes an issue for me quite fast.

Road trips.

Language classes are fun, but the fun schools (younger crowd) often have strict regimes (be on time, don't miss too many classes, etc).

And also this is a reason why I like to travel to surf spots: surfing is a great option to pass time.

C'mon man. Read books, eat the local food, study the language, practice speaking the local language with locals during the day, get a massage (SE Asia), go for an urban run to explore the city/town, find a gym, rent a bike, go to a local market, get your shoes shined, go shopping for clothes or visit a tailor if the locale specializes in that, visit microbrewery/museum/coffee shop/cemetery/local natural attraction/park/etc. Volunteer. Learn a new craft.

Get the intel for night life that night like find out what bands are playing or what events/parties are going down that night or the next ones. Ask bartenders, shop girls, the barber, people who are dressed well and seem friendly on the train/bus, etc. Make friends and exchange info.

Do research on next cities/towns/attractions to visit or good restaurants/cafes/bars for dates, etc. Trade stocks, start a blog, write a journal, learn/practice photography, learn meditation, take yoga or dance/cooking classes. Sign up for an adventure tour or pub crawl.

The opportunities are endless really depending on where you are. Use your imagination. For me it's usually always good coffee followed by exercise, day game, and a combination of the above recommendations.

But seriously, as bootyhuntah suggested, there are endless things to do. But if you are defining "doing things" as non-stop being around friends and family, paragliding, busy work at a job back home etc then yes- there can be a lack of those things I suppose. But there is so much more beyond that to occupy the mind and body.

I could wander around just MBK Center alone for hours looking at gadgets, fake Diesel jeans, talking to girls, eating etc. No joke, some days in Bangkok I would spend hours in one cosmetics shop in MBK sitting in the makeup chair talking to the worker girls while they laughed at everything I said and ignored countless fat Saudi tourists. Then the DQ girls would wander over after some time and soon enough I was getting Blizzards handed to me for free just to get me to hang around a bit longer.

Maybe it's just different personalities. I could sit in coffee shop for 8 hours and never be bored, between talking to patrons, workers, laptop, watching people, thinking about business ideas..

If all my days were filled with "activities" or friends around 24/7 I think I'd go insane.

Start a blog. When I started mine this issue stopped to exist. I am now trying to find some free time.

Listen to podcasts, workout, 1 day long trips, daygame. Noon time lunch dates with chicks that are working. Sky is the limit.

Hobbies.

Focus less on nightlife and more on things you're passionate about.

I was a little like you when I first moved. Going out all the time waiting for the sun to go down. I am not saying you're but I felt I was super unbalanced and had no sense of direction, my goal was just to get girls.

I reshifted my focus and took the time to try new stuff, read books, learn new skills, some things I really liked others not so much.

Since doing this my income, health and happiness has increased a lot (not saying you're not fit unhealthy, unhappy or poor).

Moral of the story I now love my days the hobbies more than going out itself. Just got to go out and find what you really enjoy doing. For me that happens to be football, badminton, squash, meeting friends for drinks, reading and growing my business.

No doubt learning new skills is the most valuable use for your time.

- As suggested reading books, learning a new language or how to trade are all good ways to kill lots of hours
- Creating side businesses instead of passively reading blogs: marketing, poker online, selling, etc
- Gyms can be boring. Playing some sport and you might be able to find local guys that depending on where you are might end up helping get a foot in the door
- Take lessons about cooking, scuba diving, hiking, surfing, anything really.. Same side benefits as before.
- Go watch local movies, learn as much as you can about the culture you're in so you'll stand out with quality people (not to mention girls)
- Identify cafes and libraries where young students go and read some more. Connect with them when you feel like it. A lot of hidden treasures can be discovered by simply hanging out where locals gather to study.
