I belong to an arts organization which is so controlled by Team Blue it might as well use a rainbow as a symbol.The organization has a few benefits for me, which I won't go into, so I stick with it as a member.
Now, I find I've been personally invited for a celebration of "Women's History Month" that has a very obvious agenda. I need not go into the details, but if I show up I'll be expected to kiss Liberal Democrat ass all evening.
The easy thing would be not to show. However, as I've always made one of their events when personally invited, it will be obvious why I didn't go.
If I do attend I could participate in a way that would toss a monkey wrench into their whole scheme, but I'd be the only one who would do it.
For instance, imagine you're a musician. You find out the event you're supposed to attend has a "Stop The Hate" theme. You appear and do a song about Middle Eastern Christians slaughtered by ISIS. Everyone else does ones that attack Trump. Imagine how it would go over.
You'd make your point. Everyone would know where you stood. And then the personal attacks would begin...
I don't get involved with their politics because I know what would happen. I don't talk politics on Facebook for the same reason.
Sometimes it's a question of honor, sometimes it's a question of knowing when to pick your battles. I'm not sure which one wins out this time.

Is it really that obvious that if you don't attend it's because it's women history month?

Don't you have other things you could be doing that day/evening?

Unless you're one of the organisers I can't see why you're obligated to go to every event that you're "personally" invited to. Are you a guest speaker? Is your art being showcased?

I don't really understand your dilemma.

A private (I'd rather not discuss it) family emergence kept you from attending/busy that week.

Going on a confrontation course will sour this venue for you - if you have no desire to be part of that group, fine, but otherwise this is not a rational battle to pick.

If you are ambiguous about your dishing out at Trump rallies, then you can pull off an Antifa association.

It's going to be a hard one to pull off in the future. If you work at a BlueBall organization or in BlueBaller 'hood, you will have to deal with local "vigilant" squads who roam the horizon to make sure ideological conformity is enforced.

I find such situations are an opportunity to practice your acting/deception skills. No one has to know what you're really thinking about what's going on, just sit there with a Tyler Durden/Dexter smirk on your face.

You haven't gained your financial freedom yet. That means you still need to get on your knees and suck it. It never is glamorous. That how most people survived for generations, as yes men. I wouldn't be surprised a lot of people here still have someone to answer to. I still do. I would recommend going for the time being. But you still have to think about how you are going to gain your freedom going forward.

Utilize these people to your advantage.
