Manufactured Outrage™ against Marine Corp regarding WYB photos
More and more MSM outlets are starting to pick this story up and I didn't find it on this forum yet.
From WAPO article.
Quote:The War Horse’s report focuses on one Facebook group with more than 30,000 members called Marines United. In January, a link to a shared hard drive containing photos of numerous female Marines in various states of undress was posted to the group, according to the War Horse’s report. The hard drive contained images, as well as the names and units of the women pictured. Many of the photos were accompanied by derogatory and harassing comments.
To sum it up, an unknown number of Marines decided to collect publicly shared photos/snapchats and have a WYB kind of contest. The media is framing these male Marines as "sexual harassers." All they did was simply share the PUBLIC photos of attention whores. The article mentions some of the nudes might be from former partners, however the main "victim" that is getting quoted had her photos taken from Instagram.
I get that it might not be professionally appropriate for people to be making lewd comments on photos about their co-workers or superiors. However it is much less appropriate to be posting these kind of images publicly. The blame lies with the women for sharing these photos all over the internet. Again if these were forced nudes or stolen I could understand some of the outrage. As of right now there is no evidence that hacking or coercion was even involved.
The white knight that blew the whistle admits he himself has made "offensive" comments to related photos in the past, but only decided to speak up when he thought about his daughter possibly joining the corp. AKA he decided to get ahead of the crap storm he saw brewing and virtue signal at same time.
No doubt this will be used as an excuse to get more women in combat positions to fight this "rape culture." Its a interesting cognitive dissonance that the men are the ones being lambasted for saying WB/WNB to a publicly posted photo.
Notes: All photos were taken down already.

Women shouldn't be in the military. I recall reading that 45% of female Marines could not throw a grenade beyond its blast radius.
Does that seem like a great plan?

RE: Manufactured Outrage™ against Marine Corp regarding WYB photos
Not to vent as a newbie, but as a veteran I find this especially ridiculous.*
Out of all the problems facing the military, and even the US as a whole, this is what captures the attention of the media, and now congress. The USMC's Inspector General will be now focused on this incident (read on a drudgereport link but it's gone now), which will consume immense man hours from what ostensibly are real problems.
This is the military worship culture coming back to bite itself in the ass. After having emasculated the image of the military to the pubic through soft commercials and advertising, encouraged female enlistment and integration, we are shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, to see that aggressive and caddish men in a mostly aggressive and Martial organization would make crude inferences to women who voluntarily showed crude pictures of themselves to men they had no reason to trust.
This is has been a general facet of military reality since time began, something that was commonly understood and prevented through rigid and strict sex segregation and isolation. Yet putting these chicks in the infantry now will somehow make this situation better for the future.
When I see manufactured outrage over this, I am increasingly seeing that lawmakers and the media, so feckless and helpless to even admit to the serious problems facing America, are increasingly apt to rush to issues like this to distract themselves and give them a sense of control over something.
But they got my attention and wasted minutes out of me writing the above, so i guess I'm easily distracted too

I'm confused how you could "steal" a publicly shared photo unless you plan to sell it or use it commercially. I still might be wrong but I can guarantee the media would be going wild already if they thought these photos were "hacked."
Another gem proving my point the intention of this "scandal."
Quote:As my friend and fellow Marine infantry veteran Maximilian Uriarte has pointed out, women only make up 7% of the Marine Corps.
They "do not have the numbers to defend themselves against a culture of misogyny," he wrote on Twitter. Female Marines have little power to address this issue.
No power to address the issue. Except for the gynocentric power structure that's going to white knight for just about any woman who cries foul, regardless of legitimacy or lack thereof.
Women in the military can get away with murder. I have, in fact, seen women in uniform experience misogyny and unfair treatment on the job.... almost always at the hands of another woman. But mostly it's women failing to do their jobs. I could tell stories for days about useless women being rewarded and praised by the system merely because vagina. I can think of many women who have cried sexual harassment to cover their incompetence or unethical wrongdoings. Not every female in the military is useless or going to cry wolf. Just 2/3's of 'em or so. They certainly shouldn't be allowed in the combat trades. Women just do not make good infantry, they interfere with the masculine dynamic of tank and ship crews, and they frequently do not have the strength to lift artillery shells or specialty combat engineering equipment.
Incompetent affirmative action hire female cops used to be called "Secretaries with Guns." In a military setting, I wouldn't trust most women to be able to do the secretary part, either.

Having seen female college athletes throw stuff, I'm surprised that percentage isn't closer to 90%.
The other 55% can't get the pin out.

MOAR PLEASE!
I wholeheartedly see your point on this and am inclined to agree. That said, my eyes have been wide open on this nonsense (feminizing the military) for quite some time, and after the initial rage, it's downright depressing to see all the great social capital of military collapse over something so stupid. Then I became cynical, now I just accept it.
I saw/see that if you have a family or are financially vested in a relatively secure job as the military, you will either hold your nose and go along or increasingly convince yourself that the party line coming from the generals and politicians is actually a good thing. I wish i was exaggerating, but that's increasingly the case.
Just like a schlub in a bad relationship, it's emotionally easier to move forward and get married than break it off entirely, because breaking it off means that you have to fully comes to terms with the fact that you were an idiot not to see how wrong you were, or how weak you were not to speak up. Most men don't have the humility or courage to speak up, even in the narrow ways they can in the system of military. But just like that bad Marriage, it will collapse under its own dysfunctional weight soon enough....

This. 100% true. It was a large part of the reason that I got out of the Armed Forces myself; I was sick of playing with the High School Kool Kids Klub, where grabass was more important than performance.
I deeply respect the 1/3 who are genuinely good soldiers (or who at least give it their full effort, despite the weakness of their sex); the ones who aren't dykish tend to be the sort of woman I'm attracted to, the sort who can be a lady when it's called for but who can also withstand adversity. But even they do not belong in the combat arms. It's a shame that society encourages them.
And for the record, it's about 70-90% of the men who give it their full effort. Female soldiers aren't just weaker in body, they're generally weaker in spirit, as well.
EDIT: Freudian slip. I wrote "diversity" when I meant "adversity". Heh.
