As for why the social trend, I think women are running out of things to offer in order to curry favor from high value men. With traditional marriage and family off the table, a woman is basically left with access to her body as a bargaining chip. Combine this with the normalization of degeneracy ushered in by porn as well as the hedonic adaptation mentioned earlier...

I'm pretty sure blowjobs were considered taboo once upon a time (the 50s?), then a couple decades later they were an accepted part of the courtship ritual. Anal, bisexuality. Eating ass is just the logical progression.
