It seems as if companies are either fucking oblivious as to the cultural shift that's taking place, or are desperately trying to hold onto their old order as long as possible. The tide is turning. People are rejecting political correctness, even in commercials, as evidenced by the hate the "Wage Gap" beer commercial with Seth Rogen and Amy Schumer received, and its subsequent removal from TV.

I don't think this is enough of a cultural shift. In your twitter response you say that the paygap is a myth, but that doesn't get to the point, not even close enough.

Look, ask yourself a question honestly, how do feel if women earn the same you? Does that feel ok? Maybe it's not an issue for you. But for me, when women I personally know earn more than me it pisses me off. It's just something I feel deep inside and I cannot switch it off. I don't know but I guess many would feel like this. I would even say it is an intrinsic part of being man.

If this is something that makes me feel bad, it doesn't make sense for me live with it for the rest of my life. That is too much to ask a person to tolerate.

The thing is that is the point we need to be making. We need to say that we are not happy to compete with women, and that we are not happy if they earn the same as us. It's not about fairness, it's about what we want and what we are willing to accept. It is unacceptable for women in general to earn more than me. Not only am I not working for any company that pits me against a woman, or tries to make one my equal, but those companies promoting these ideas are actively out to hurt me, and hence I consider them my enemies.

By 'leveling the playing field', so to speak, these companies are taking away from me the most important thing in my life, my manliness and any status/power/privilege it carries. That is a serious offense but as it's not illegal people think it's ok. But it's not.

It's not wrong, but natural and human, to expect to earn more than women.

There is nothing wrong with you rolling up on twitter and straight up telling them how feel/think.

"Fuck that Equal Pay bullshit. I'm never accepting that. I need to earn more than women, and I wont accept anything less. This advert is a personal insult and attack on my identity, and I will take action I find appropriate."

We need to be more vocal about not accepting equal pay. We need to let them know how we feel about it.

Commercials, especially the car/ truck variety, have really changed over the years. I can't think of very many commercials that I have seen recently that from the moment they begin you know what they are advertising. I always get to the end and say "oh, that was for paper towels? Weird."

I looked up some old commercials, I really liked the ones that tell you something new or improved about the product or service and why you should buy it. Or explain to you how good you would feel about your purchase if you like what you see. Mix in a little fun, and a memorable closing slogan and you have a good marketing plan for potential customers.

Kraut car companies often make long ads where the visual narrative alone attempts to pull at your heart strings. Porsche ads frequently go for nostalgia. This ad was likely shot in Europe and would have had a different narrative for their markets. This voice over was probably conjured up by Audi of North America.

This MB ad was never aired in the US because US consumers are too uptight for it.

They are suckers for pain. They will double down until they get a really bad quarter aside from their losses from the recent settlement with the US govt. Usually that will involve some degree of turnover internally for them to go back to just being a regular car company with regular marketing.

Their China numbers allowed them to beat out Toyota for most cars sold for the year. They are feeling bold, so next years sales would have to drop a few % down and out of the top spot globally for a head or two to roll.

Put them on your shit list and keep it there for a while if you want it to work eventually, because they will continue to be political until it hurts them.
