Of all the things to fight in Australia a kangaroo is the best because everything else will fuck you up instantly.

Best Australian movie ever: "Wake in Fright" (1971)

A descent into surreal insanity...a great film. Check out the kangaroo "hunting scene" from the film. It's all real-life, too.

Notice how our hero in the OP's video side-stepped to the right to avoid the dangerous front kicks and threw that snappy right hook over the roo's guard. What a beauty!

I haven't eaten ostrich, but to me emu and roo taste great! I eat roo meat fairly regularly, high protein, high iron, practically no fat. Fantastic for training. They're harder to cook though, due to low fat content. Gotta time it very well.

There are plenty of roos around, they're culled every now and then. One park I'd go for a walk sometimes only 10km from the city centre has about 40 of those high energy buggers, led by some super buff males. I wouldn't dare box those guys.

As for emus, our army fought them and lost, 80 something years ago. It was as ridiculous as it sounds Big Grin

Not sure how we'd have fared as a nation had the emus joined forces with those buff roos, the grinning gigantic crocs, great white sharks, deadly snakes and the most fearsome of all: the drop bears.

Australian presidential election 2016, 84 years after the Great Emu Wars in which the native species of Australia either eliminated or enslaved all humans.

The candidates:

Donald Troomp:

Masculine, well-equipped in a fight, looking to preserve the greatness that ensued following the emu victory.

[Image: dignified-kangaroo-8x10-archival-art-pri...n-etsy.jpg]

There is controversy surrounding his wife, though, after a picture surfaced of her speeding with a child in her pouch.

Hillary Crocton:

Although a hideous creature despised by much of the constituency, Hillary Crocton would be the first crocodile president if elected. She is certain to lock down the snake and dingo vote, but the emus are split according to current polls.

[Image: croc.jpg?file=media%2Fcontent%2F_master%...;width=450]

She has spoken out against the "deplorable" otter population, which is 99% pro Troomp. They have caused her plenty of grief, per the video below.

RE: Man punches kangaroo in the face to save dog
Dogs love their man without wavering, it is always heartening when a man shows loves for a dog. Lets not kid ourselves. Roos are aggressive beasts that are shredded with twitch muscle fiber. They can seriously injure you or kill you if you're not careful. This guy went in surely knowing this, and still saved his dog. He also was careful in how he approached. Keeping as much distance possible before reaching in with that hook. Smart! If I was ever Down Under, I'd buy this guy a round. Masculine courage on display is always inspiring, and he used smarts in getting the beast to back off without further confrontation. What a boss!

So yeah, that's a helicopter going sideways at about 35mph while the passenger shoots emus at full trot with an 1887 lever action shotgun (stupid gun laws occasion stupid guns, but you'd recognise the model from Teminator 2). He told me it might look like fun, but those are some big stations up there and after about 1000 round through the gun all you want to do is go home and pump your shoulder full of local anaesthetics.

A real pest apparently. They eat a lot of crops and ruin plenty more.

I'm an acceptable shot with a rifle. I can't imagine I could ever make a shot like this though.

Also, to the poster who proposed fighting a cow, I know a cattle farmer who was pissed at one of his cows and gave it a right hook. The cow kicked him and gave him a compound fracture in his femur. He'll be limping for the rest of his life. Cows can kick 360 degrees and are much faster then you think.

RE: Man punches kangaroo in the face to save dog
Unfortunately, things don't seem to be going to well for the gentleman who appeared in the video.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-...vists.html

Quote:EXCLUSIVE: 'Hero' zookeeper who punched a kangaroo to save his beloved pet dog forced to call POLICE to his family farm after vile threats from animal rights activists
•Greig Tonkins, 34, punched a kangaroo to save his dog Max in June
•Video of the incident went viral when it was recently posted to Facebook
•Now the father-of-two is fearing for his life after threats made by animal activists
•He called police to his property in Dubbo, country NSW, on Wednesday morning
•Mr Tonkins was revealed to be a zookeeper and some called for him to be fired
•Taronga have announced he would keep his job in Dubbo as elephant keeper

A zookeeper who punched a kangaroo in the face to save his pet dog is holed up in his house fearing for his life after threats made by animal rights activists.

Greig Tonkins, from Dubbo in country New South Wales, became an internet sensation over the weekend when a video of him standing toe to toe with the marsupial as it attacked his dog went viral.

But Daily Mail Australia can reveal being the centre of international attention has come at a cost to the quiet father-of-two.

The 34-year-old - who is an elephant keeper at Taronga Western Plains Zoo - has gone to ground in the days since the video exploded online, laying low at his rural home.

On Wednesday morning Mr Tonkins called police to his property after fearing animal rights activists were outside his home.

Mr Tonkins' decision to punch the roo to redirect it away from his dog while on a pig hunting trip in Condobolin, NSW, in mid-June has seen millions label him a 'hero'.

However the animal lover has been slammed by activists, who have called for him to lose his job at the zoo.

Mr Tonkins was publicly condemned online by PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) - who described the act as 'neither funny nor brave' and 'illegal'.

'Pathetic excuse for a human being! Hope someone pays him back,' one woman wrote.

'Coward! This was totally unnecessary. The kangaroo released the dog. This guy is a pathetic coward that gets off on punching animals. He should be in prison!,' added one man.

'Greig Tonkin is VIOLENT RUTHLESS and an ANIMAL ABUSER. Children and elderly people are next to be hurt by Greig Tonkin,' another man posted

The father-of-two had gone on the hunting trip in an effort to help his sick friend Kailem Barwick catch a 'tonner' – a wild bore that weighs more than 100 kilograms.

A videographer joined the group to record the special trip for Kailem, who has since passed away, and ended up recording the moment that has now gone viral.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, one of the men on the trip backed Mr Tonkins' actions, saying the punch was only thrown to protect the dog and prevent the roo attacking anyone else.

'The dog wanted no part of it, all it was trying to do was escape from the roo and that's why he stepped in,' the man said.

'There's people on social media saying, "I know men like that, I bet they killed it afterwards", but that's just ridiculous.

'He only threw the punch to redirect the animal and afterwards there were a few nervous and relieved laughs, and then we just went on with getting Kailem a tonner.'

The trip ultimately proved successful, with the group ensuring the young man managed to kill his 'tonner'.

Sadly Kailem passed away last week after a long cancer battle, with his funeral to be held on Thursday.

He was able to marry his partner Brandi-Lee in a touching hospital bedside service two days before his death

The fellow hunter said he was dumbfounded by the reaction and left wondering why some were happy for the dog to be injured but not the kangaroo.

'The video went viral in America and there was not one bad comment, and then it goes crazy in Australia and there's a whole bunch of outrage,' he said.

'It made me sick to be part of this country when people were wishing this family man and dog died, when the kangaroo wasn't even hurt.'

Daily Mail Australia can also reveal Mr Tonkins is a committee member of the Australian Pig Doggers and Hunters Association.

In October, Max - the same specially trained dog that was attacked by the roo - won a high jumping competition at the organisation's AGM, with the performance captured on video.

Millions of people across the world have viewed the video since it was posted to Facebook.

In addition to threats for his own safety, Mr Tonkins' job as a zookeeper at Taronga also came under fire as a result of the viral video.

After an internal investigation, the zoo announced on Tuesday that he would not lose his job, adding that they would continue to work with him on his conduct in regards to the incident.

'Following the events of the last 48 hours in which Greig Tonkins … was seen on social media punching a kangaroo in attempt to free his dog from its hold, Taronga has been inundated with concern for Mr Tonkins as well as enquiries regarding Taronga's position on the events,' the zoo said in a statement.

'Best practice animal welfare and the protection of Australian wildlife are of the utmost importance to Taronga.

'Taronga strongly opposes the striking of animals and does not support the practice of using dogs to hunt, as this can result in negative welfare for both species.

'Mr Tonkins is an experienced Zoo keeper and during his six years at Taronga Western Plains Zoo has always followed Taronga's best practice approach to animal care and welfare. We confirm that there is no suggestion of Mr Tonkins' employment at Taronga Western Plains Zoo ending as a result of this event.

'However, the highest standards of animal welfare and care are a core value of Taronga and one that we expect our staff to uphold in all their interactions with wildlife and we continue to work with Mr Tonkins on his conduct in regards to this incident.'

The reaction of some of these people makes me sick. These people are literally calling for this mans life to be destroyed because he saved the life of his dog, because he prevented an animals death.

It's a bit baffling really, the guy prevented an animals death without causing the Kangaroo any serious injury, yet animal rights activists are calling for him to be put in prison

During military survival training, in a remote area of the country, our instructors checked the surrounding area carefully before teaching us how to turn small animals into food (using completely normal and unremarkable methods). They said animal rights activists had been known to show up and interfere. I think that context does not matter to PETA types. Sort of like feminists and "misogyny".

What a bunch of idiots those people disrupting the army are. Fuck the army right.....who's job it is to defend these idiots and the country, they don't need to be taught potentially life saving skills. What's ironic is the mass hypocrisy of a good percentage of these people, many of which probably tucked into a piece of beef or chicken not long afterwards, which came from an animal that had been kept in horrific conditions. But you know......that's different Dodgy

What non-Aussies or even a lot of city-dwelling Aussies don't realize is that about 5 million Roos are culled each year by hunters paid by the government. Not to mention the never ending stack of carcasses beside every inland highway.

There is an estimate 50 million, more than the wild pig population here. They're going unchecked because they have almost few predators and go crazy eating crops of grain/wheat farms.

Very few tears are shed for them by anyone other than teenage girls and wildlife activists.

This kangaroo probably got hit by a truck or shot five minutes after being punched.

It sounds like Australia should be a major pet food producer?

RE: Man punches kangaroo in the face to save dog
I guy I know through work spent several months in Australia, so I asked if he'd ever punched a kangaroo. He said "there's this video", and I thought he was about to tell about the one that went viral.

He said no, it's not the one going around Facebook, he has video of himself punching a kangaroo! However, it's much less epic. He was at some kind of park, feeding littler ones, and one of them started getting aggressive and making whatever sound they make, and pushing for the food.

He said he took an awkward swing at the kangaroo to shoo it away, and then "ran like a little girl" razz

Not quite the same, but we got a pretty good laugh!

These sort of country blokes are great, They are real men kind of what most Austrailians used to be like, down to earth, real and non pretentious. They are very non politically correct and just great to have as mates. I know a few and we hunt, fish and talk shit etc like men. I can just be myself when im with them. Most guys are still like that here deep down, but our culture is getting lost.

The is another classic old outback movie Razorback

My grandfather lived in the country and hunted roos. He was the sort of guy who never left the state, his who life outside of work was doing shit with his gun.

I'm glad he died before 1996, guns laws afterwards would have had him die of a heart attack, calling him a criminal.

He hunted roos, twice he shot a pregnant female with a joey, and he raised the joeys both on his farm.

I remember as a boy, he'd never let me alone in the paddock with the boomer. They were grey.

What I remember now ad a 40 y/o, kangaroos are generally stupid, but the have smarts when it comes to fighting.

They kick harder than a mule.

Pop taught me well, it looks cute, but box and get the fuck away
