RE: Handling being told you have a HUGE EGO!!
It's totally impossible to know Mixx's situation without seeing the body language and knowing Mixx and all of the context. Here's my take based on the info.
On the one hand, the chick MAY have had a valid point about you having a big ego. ("Ego" meaning a fake persona you put out that isn't congruent with your authentic personality.) We could argue about what is authentic but that's a different can of worms...
If this is the case, I'd argue that she'd tracked you down because she didn't have enough time to sniff out if it's the REAL you or if you're faking it. This drives women crazy and it's very mysterious. Hence the "odd" attraction...
On the other hand, If that's *REALLY* your style and it's congruent with your inner world and just how you interact, then this girl is talking out of her ass.
In this second scenario, she could be projecting onto you. Women have made judgments and statements about me that when I honestly evaluated them and checked with myself as objectively as possible to see if they were true, were totally, utterly false. We all have blind spots - no doubt - but if a girl says something that just isn't true and seems to insist on it aggressively, it might be a classic psychological projection. I.e. SHE is the one with the big ego and puts her dislike of her own personality traits onto other people as a coping mechanism.
Another possibility that a lot of posters already mentioned, is that she's doing what women do so well: using words to befuddle. She's trying to shake your reality by making you question who you are ("am I really egotistical? Wait, maybe I am...NO, I'm not...am I?") and leave the present moment in order to introspect. If she can do this, then she's affected you, and many women get a kick out of rocking a guy off his center (and also tend to lose attraction for him when they do) Women a want a rock. And my experience both with myself and others is that truly egotistical people are easily shaken because the defense structure they've erected to protect themselves is threatened and they overreact by barricading.
I guess you could call her statements a shit test. I just call it a ridiculous question that I don't have answer just because a woman asks it. Women ask all sorts of crazy shit.
My approach to these situations is something I kind of starting doing independently but funny enough, Don Draper does it all the time on the show Mad Men. Basically, if a woman says something that makes no sense to me or poses an absurd lose/lose type of question to me that I feel zero obligation to answer, I just look at her. That's it. I just look deep in her eyes with a perfectly polite smile on my face.
Usually she'll get a bit uncomfortable and either a) change the subject, in which case problem solved or b) pose the question again, at which point I respond with something like "what do you want me to say...?" <== this is gold Jerry, GOLD! (this is the bit I took from Don Draper).
I mean, what DOES she want you to say? It's a double bind. "Does this dress make me look fat?" Yes = you're an insensitive prick. No = you're a phony people pleaser. Women don't ask questions to get answers. They ask questions to befuddle and to manipulate emotions / ping for weakness.
Her: "OMG you have such a big ego don't you?"
Me: "I honestly don't know..." | [stare...] "what do you want me to say?" | "I don't know...ego is just a word, I don't really what it means. I'm just myself, that's all. What you see is what you get."
