I didn't get hazed when I joined, maybe because I was at ROK for a while before that.

Generally don't act like a faggot and you won't be hazed.

Maybe there should be some encouragement of the local tribes more going forward?

I've been reviewing my earliest threads. I didn't get hazed. There were a few posts of mine though that had other posters saying , "chill the f*ck out" . Heck had a few spats here and there later on too.

This forum helped chip away aspects of my personality that looking back now almost disgust me. I'm grateful I wasn't too pompous. Surprisingly, this was the first forum I joined where I did read the rules before posting.

You and QC were posting gold on RoK in those days. Think you were already you knew the deal by that point(suffice to say students of history tend to be more meek and self censor so you were posting little until you knew the score).

Yes definitely. That is being helpful. I should have defined "hazing" better, but it's really just rough insults without providing help.

I really appreciate the transparency and simplification of the rules here! After getting warned for posting in the Trump thread on election night, I've been very skittish about posting much on the forum because I don't want to get banned from here! I definitely should have read the rules more thoroughly before posting there, so putting them in the forefront with this thread is of great benefit! The upside is that in the future I will be much more focused on following the rules and keeping my posts within the guidelines.

I want you to know that, as someone who hasn't posted much to date, I really appreciate the focus you're putting on supporting new members! It really does a lot to make me feel welcome on the forum. I definitely hope to contribute a lot here in the future.

Seriously bro, keep posting and don't be scared. Don't post in the politics subforum until you have 250 posts. Beyond that, it takes a lot of douchbaggery to get a warning and ban from a mod.

You may get razzed by other forum members (if you're a dick/psychopath) but generaly we're pretty welcoming here.

Take a look at some of my earliest threads. I got razed a few times here and there. To be fair, this forum took me down a notch and helped eliminate that red pill hubris people get after taking the dive.

Newbies are the bread and butter of message boards because they represent growth. I've seen some poor treatment of them from time to time that I thought was excessive. We all know when we're being a dick, I think the line is pretty much drawn there.

I guess another way to put it is, make sure your criticism is civil and constructive. It is possible to do that while also giving an honest appraisal and setting whatever boundaries are needed. I wonder, by the way, if some method of upvoting and/or downvoting, or otherwise tagging, threads could be helpful in dealing with trolls.

When I joined the forum, I signed up on January 5th. I didn't make the new member list on time, so I had to wait until February to become active. This month of "new member status" was an amazing time where I read threads, learned the culture, and began to understand what the community would expect from me. By the time I was posting, I was very familiar with the forum.

Requiring a month of "pledge" status, where new members can't post, would guarantee that newbies have to read the forum for a while before posting. Many members, like myself, had a period like this, but there are some who register late in the month who can post within a week of registration.

While most newbies ask silly questions that can be Googled, you post long, well-informed posts that further the discussion. Newbies, take note.

I see the no text speak rule is still in effect

Sometimes when I'm typing on a mobile it spills over accidentally. I hope we can relax that one over time too. Nothing excessive, but the odd 'lol' is a commonly understood display of finding a situation comical and I don't think it warrants bans or even warnings.

Just my 2 cents

I do think the new "no hazing" rule is great

I never got hazed, but I participate in fits and starts. I also never got belligerent with any forum members. That's usually what gets them. Before the last time I went away from the forum when I gave up trying to keep up with "The Donald Trump Thread", I noticed newbies who were respectful and added value didn't get challenged for posting without 250 posts, while those that came in as assholes did.

The Trump thread was awesome, but while it was growing between 20 and 100 pages a day, I couldn't have kept up even if it was my full time job.
