My favorite Tweet, "Trump's speech at the Al Smith dinner wasn't for the attending politicians. It was for us: I'm With You, the American people."

RE: Trump's Roast of Hillary at the Al Smith Dinner
Every time the media attack Trump now, it only makes him stronger. Journalists, Fox and even pundits keep wondering: "Why is Donald Trump wasting time by talking about rigging!? When he talks about the issues the 'polls' go up"...

After doubting every step he took in the primaries, after saying he had zero chance, you would think they would have learnt their lesson by now, but no, history is doomed to keep repeating itself, because the majority are unable to learn from their wrongs...

It doesn't take a genius to realize, the polls go up when Trump does what the MSM want him to do, and what they want him to do is: Lose. The reason Trump is spending precious time talking about rigging is because that is what's important right now... Do the pundits really think he is so dense, as the blow his campaign by talking about non issues?

The reality is, Trump's in front. The number one reason he's talking about rigging is because rigging is the only thing that can stop him from winning the election. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it.

Absolutely loved the speech, maybe not the best setting to destroy Clinton like that - but it proved Trump is authentic and not just another elitist hack who reverts to politically correct mode when necessary.

Also, God-emperor status confirmed: D. Trump reminded the Cardinal - who understood, smiled and nodded approval - that he too (Trump) used to "work as a carpenter for his father"...

Also, WB the woman in sleeveless pink dress, the one trying to look at what's going on under the table... who is she?

I think that's Arianna Huffington, the PuffHoe from the HuffPo. Another one of the corrupt media oligarchs Trump was calling out.

If that's her they must have caught her at a good angle in that pic, WNB

I have no clue if this was good or bad. I'm shocked he dug in so deep. He went Jeffery Ross. I don't think anyone should do that except Ross himself.

I bet all those people wanted to crawl under the table so badly. Serves them right.

Press isn't really touching it which means he did well.

People got put off from the blunt and raw speech but the truth hurts sometimes.

He spoke right to Christian folks and ideally they call it a draw and will stay on board.

I agree that Trump needed to avoid coming off as part of the club, which he certainly did. But he also needed to show a civilized side, showing that he knows how to play their game (and win at it). It was good to see funny Trump here. That humanizes him, which is what he needs in order to shed his 'monster' image. You can get away with a lot more when it's packaged in humor. I wish that all of his attacks here had been delivered as humorous barbs and zingers, not just some. Reagan was good at this, which is why even people who hated him had some underlying fondness and respect for him.

Also, Trump's comedic timing is good. Go back and listen at the 9:30 mark. See how expertly he places the pauses in the Rosie O'Donnell line.

RE: Trump's Roast of Hillary at the Al Smith Dinner
There were some good bits, as there always are with Trump. Increasingly though I think he does himself more harm than good. This must be starting to take quite a toll on his family - when he most likely loses they will all have to continue to live with the consequences of this.

Trump the populist is all very well, but he is increasingly unlovely. All of his worst characteristics are coming to the fore. This was a golden chance to be humorous, but presidential; sharp, but charming and reconciliatory. He managed at times - the line about Melania was extremely winning, so was the slightly risqué but innocent joke about working as a carpenter too. But the ranting, 'Hillary hates Catholics' and other such charmless and vulgar statements, all serve ultimately to offend your hosts far more than any of their other guests. This was Trump at his most childish, petulant, and unlovely.

It's very unfortunate, as I'm desperate for Trump to win, but he becomes harder and harder for the non-fanaticals to get behind. That's not to say one votes for Hillary, but I think a lot of people will stay at home this election, many of whom could have been persuaded to get out and vote for Trump if they hadn't had to look so hard and so far past the frustratingly consistent childish behaviour to find reasons to like him.

I doubt it. Remember that your lower level, millenial leftist isn't good at critical thinking. They're largely like trained dogs who emote in response to programmed cues like the word "racism" and "socialism". Easy_C

You guys say this everytime he does something seemingly controversial.

I have to wholeheartedly disagree. Trump is just on another level and his performance was absolutely masterful in my opinion.

RE: Trump's Roast of Hillary at the Al Smith Dinner
Heartiste's take on the Al Smith dinner was perfect. I'd cut and paste the entire thing, but there are many photographs in the article that you simply must see.

My favorite part: "The Queen and her courtiers didn’t see the blade swinging. They thought Trump was an entertainer, at the end of the day just another narcissist elitist like themselves, in on the joke and happy to yuk it up congenially with fellow plutocrats as middle America suffered under miseries visited upon them by the rulers in whom they put their faith.

But Trump is not like them. He’s a wealthy businessman with a commoner’s touch, and a honed sense for traitorous nümale-ocracy bullshit earned from decades immersed in New York real estate and politics. He knows where to find the underbelly of the lickspittle media and their scumbag Bezosian paymasters, and he studied them, watched as they betrayed him….and waited…

then plunged the knife in to the hilt."

Like what, precisely? I do think he gets into the weeds too much but so what, he's not perfect. Childish is not a term I would use to describe him.

I'm glad Mr. Trump is not acting like a bitch by playing nice with the people who are trying to destroy our country, and him along the way. These are evil people who, given the choice, would gladly have people like me exterminated. Literally. So fuck them, and fuck their dog and pony shows.

^ Exactly. The kind of people who were in that room, are the same kind who have been going after him and his family night and day, smearing his good name around the clock. Everyone's entitled to their opinion on whether they feel his actions were appropriate or inappropriate, but to expect Mr. Trump to go into a room with those kind of people and play nice now is, in my opinion, ridiculous.

RE: Trump's Roast of Hillary at the Al Smith Dinner
I'm disappointed by some of the reactions here. The Al Smith dinner is usually nothing more than the two heads of the two headed snake enjoying a moment of respite from the showmanship of pretending that there are two diametrically opposed sides that fight for one side of the country. Parlaying, as they do for a time, to remind themselves that campaign slogans notwithstanding they are all in this together, against us.

Declaration of Independence Wrote:And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

This is the closing line of the Declaration of Independence. The Founding Fathers knew that by putting pen to paper and signing their names to what was then a treasonous act against the most powerful empire the world had ever seen, that there would be no return to the status quo, no reconciliation, no compromise. The only path was forward with an unbridled determination and fortitude. Only victory or death.

Trump has crossed his own Rubicon and forever turned his back on the elite political class, he chose us over them.

I have never had more respect for the man than now.

As I read what Trump did, it reminded me of something, I couldn't quite put my finger on it, until searching for it, a story of the great Edgar Allen Poe, called The Mask of The Read Death.

Quote:The story follows Prince Prospero's attempts to avoid a dangerous plague, known as the Red Death, by hiding in his abbey. He, along with many other wealthy nobles, hosts a masquerade ball within seven rooms of the abbey, each decorated with a different color. In the midst of their revelry, a mysterious figure disguised as a Red Death victim enters and makes his way through each of the rooms. Prospero dies after confronting this stranger, whose "costume" proves to contain nothing tangible inside it; the guests also die in turn.

"And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all".

A story about how elites guard themselves off from the peasents while the plague ravages outside, hosting elaborate costume balls, drinking, dancing, laughing, only they did not they invited Death inside with them and only too late do they realize.

That last picture, only then did they truly realize that Trump is death to their world and dominion, deep down they probably still believe or hope that Trum like them must be a hedonist powermonger, one of them, making a play for power like them, but chill grips them now.
