Fried Chicken and Waffles

A restaurant in Gatlinburg TN (forgot the name) puts Cayenne pepper with the honey as dipping sauce for the chicken. Delicious

Minced meat, spicy but chilled. "Taco" it with half a cabbage leaf.
Great in the summer.

Utilitarian, protestant culture = no frills functional food, cheese and herring... Belgium (even the Flemish part) has decent food, and of course, the best beer in the world, but Holland?!?

You're right with regards to the typical cuisine, which is quite poor.

I heard that pre WW2 the cuisine was rich with herbs and flavouring. A time long past.

However, restaurants in Amsterdam and other cities serve good quality 'normal international restaurant dishes' and we have very good restaurants. Amsterdam has more restaurants of every kind and nations.

Plus, the Dutch fish and seafood can be pretty good.

The typical 'Dutch cuisine' is what we eat at home:

I'm stateside for a few days. Here's what passes for lunch among the American professional class. $15 USD, to be eaten in 15 minutes out of a cardboard tray (served for eat-in, not take-out) before rushing back to the office. But hey, it's FARM FRESH.

Abroad, people talk about 'American food'. They're usually talking about fast food or pizza. To me, American food is a charbroiled burger and fries at a sit-down ma-and-pa restaurant, but there really isn't a national cuisine per se.

Looks like a shitty kale salad with some lentils and roasted broccoli and a big glob of...? fried goat cheese? It's hard to tell.

Anyway these places pop up left and right, there's a chain in L.A. called Tender Greens that's wildly popular. It's decent when you want a salad with some protein on top, but most of these types of places suck.

edit: I just realized that's a chicken breast. It looks terrible. No skin. No sear. Looks dry as fuck bro.

£11.50 for that... I'd rather not eat. Can't you nip in to a supermarket and get a meal deal sort of thing (sandwich, crisps, fruit, chocolate) for £3 or so?
