Current reports make it seem as if the military coup is failing. Lots of civilians have taken to the streets and are protesting/fighting military.

Come, my friends, ‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world.

Given NATO has remained silent and Erdogan was supposedly rejected asylum in Germany, of all places, what are the odds that this is the West's and possibly Russia's way of cleaning house in Turkey?

Hijab lady claims the coup will easily be put down. Her shaky voice says otherwise.

The longer this goes in, the more likely the coup will fail, which I believe it will.

Come on people provide sources if you claim things like the army is backing down.

Remember Istanbul is a large city, a few thousand people will look like a lot, but a very small fraction. I can't believe that Erdogan has a majority in Istanbul.

Based on the Reddit livestream, it seems like the coup is falling apart? Anyone have any better info? It might just be what people are pushing onto the stream.

Is Istanbul pro Erdogan? I thought it was very divided. Grey wolves are extreme conservatives, they would side more with Erdogan I assume.

I had the same thought, made money on the Thai ETF after the coup there.

In this case, could be an extended conflict/civil war.

There is no way Erdogan would be attempting to seek asylum, or desperately trying to FaceTime his supporters, if this coup were about to fail. This is nowhere near done.

You should follow what the Turks are saying in this thread, they are not optimistic about the situation: http://boards.4chan.org/int/thread/62148...#p62149420

One said 'There is a very good chance rest of the army will join the coup tomorrow. and erdogan's demise will come true'
Others say it's a possible false flag to secure his presidency
Only a couple of generals and a small percentage of the army is in on it at this very moment, could change tomorrow though.

Reports that some coup leaders been arrested. What do they have to lose? If not successful, Erdogan will have them all executed next week. This should be all or nothing for them. They can't just abandon it midway, they are finished either way if it fails.

Enough with these 'reports' post your sources now or it's getting to be trolling.

Is Istanbul pro Erdogan? I thought it was very divided. Grey wolves are extreme conservatives, they would side more with Erdogan I assume.

"Beyond images, there are a couple of other factors that will strengthen the MHP not only in municipal but also in general elections. First, since Gezi, the AKP has lost quite a bit of steam. Erdogan’s constant presence in the media and AKP members’ rather aggressive stance, with repeated angry outbursts, is not helping. The Gezi protests, graft probes and intensified fighting with the Gulen movement are expected to have consequences in the elections. Conservative Turks and Islamists do not have another option but to vote for the MHP. There is no Salafi movement in mainstream Turkish politics yet. Many of the pious Muslims are now skeptical about the AKP’s methods of acquiring wealth. Also, the AKP has failed utterly in foreign policy. The pride of neo-Ottomans has been quite shaken, especially in regard to Syria. The MHP provides an alternative for that as well. Last, despite all calls from the AKP, the Gulen movement has declined to form a political party; instead, it is expected to support the strongest possible candidate against AKP.

Thus, many of the undecided voters from the right-wing ideology may swing toward a MHP that has broken out of its 1970s image of ultranationalism. Last summer, when an 18-year-old Istanbul cab driver told me, “The MHP is the only answer to the AKP, which refers to our martyred conscripts as 'a few bodies.'” I had not taken him seriously. Now, however, there are too many signs to ignore his statement.

What are you talking about? You're confusing Facebook with 4chan. Literally all Turks in that thread hate Erdogan. The Anatolian peasants are indeed overrepresented in the Turkish immigrants in Europe but they post their bullshit on Facebook, not 4chan. By the way, don't be confused by the high amount of foreign posters in there, they are not Turkish immigrants, besides the German flags maybe.

If the insurgents are on the internet right now, they already lost.
