Which is exactly the point. It's a lot easier to plan and account for muggers in Brazil than it is truck driving terrorists who mow hundreds of people down at a fireworks display.

That is not to say that there is no danger to tourists in South America or that France is a historically dangerous place.

But more than twice as many tourists were killed during the 15-minute-long Nice attack than in the first 6.5 months of 2016 in Brazil. And we have no idea how many more of these attacks we'll see and where they will occur.

I think most people would rather take their chances with a street kid with a knife who wants your wallet than a terrorist with an AK-47 who wants to disembowel you.

Marty's quote from Taleb summarizes the emotional bias you are displaying here:

It is a fact that our brain tends to go for superficial clues when it comes to risk and probability, these include being largely determined by what emotions they elicit...

The idea of a terrorist disemboweling you is something that elicits such a strong emotional response that it really messes with your ability to look at the actual risks of this type of event happening, and to set aside that type of cognitive bias.

Samseau's video above about the Rio hoodlum getting shot in the motorcycle jacking attempt is more of a political statement of his approving their direct police methods than a real and rational comparative evaluation of travel risks. If anything, it shows how dangerous daily life gets there.

Carjackings don't really exist in France (exceptionally rare), but they are a common occurrence in Brazil. The one Brazilian girl I've dated in California, who was a blonde german/polish Paulista, had a bullet scar from a carjack attempt...

Quote:A turkey recently arrived at a farm. It decided to shape its vision of the world based on empirical scientific principles.

The turkey found that, on his first morning at the turkey farm, that he was fed at 9 a.m.

Being a good inductivist turkey he did not jump to conclusions. He waited until he collected a large number of observations that he was fed at 9 a.m. and made these observations under a wide range of circumstances. He was fed at 9 a.m. no matter what day of the week it was, days when it rained, and holidays.

Each day he added another observation statement to his list. Finally he was satisfied that he had collected a number of observation statements to inductively infer that “I am always fed at 9 a.m.”.

However on the morning of Christmas eve he was not fed but instead had his throat cut.

How is that story remotely relevant here? Are you comparing the odds of a turkey getting slaughtered (100%) to that of a tourist getting killed in France by a terrorist (1 in 4,000,000, equal to 0.000025%)?

All I'm saying is that given your odds of dying from terrorism (in the worst stretch in France) are still so low that you shouldn't have to alter your travel plans, if you're a rational man that is. Your risks of dying from other/random causes during that trip (heart attack, car accident, falling anvils/grand pianos etc) are hundreds of times higher.

No. I don't agree with the entire paragraph. Nothing about that was cool. Although I don't feel guilty about colonialism, I don't like the concept of it if it includes force against natives.
The reason I thought the rest of text is important was because it emphasizes something a lot of people haven't fully realized yet because the changes in the last few years and especially the last year, have been too crass to grasp for many - including me as I learned today. I turned from liberal to conservative about 5 years ago, mostly because of this forum, but it took the migrant crisis to hit the heart of Europe to actually start thinking critically about immigration. My reaction to this up until pretty much today was still only "politics has to stop and reverse it". And despite reading comments on this forum about "there will be war" or "we have to fight" (who? when? how? - it still seemed too abstract) and reading The Iron Legion, it still never clicked in me like it did when I read that article. I remember last summer a few members here were talking about how they had a weird feeling that "something big was about to happen" and that made shivers run down my spine back then because I had that exact same sense. I think it was Anonymous Bosch who told a story about some women he met in Australia who were saying the same thing. When I saw that painting in the article, it was the perfect representation of what Europe, especially France, used to be like and it was clear that this state was as of right now already gone. I never realized so clearly what it actually meant what it would take to bring that back. What our forefathers had created and what we had carelessly let get ruined. I think I know now what is coming our way and what that feeling some of us had actually meant. I don't feel ready anymore.

Then again, maybe I'm just overreacting because I'm stressed out to the max for the last several weeks with little sleep and high workload. I do tend to get an overly dark outlook on life in such times.

I've said this before, once it's get really tough, it won't seem like something extraordinary just a natural continuation. The reluctance 'to do something' is largely mostly only because 'doing something' is not accepted public reality. If you're a reasonably civilized person, like most Europeans, you do not want to do something completely out of the 'realistic' realm for the majority, but what when that changes? What when 10-20-50% of people really feel and openly talk about 'doing something'? Then most of your reluctance will be gone, things will get done, and it won't feel strange, just a natural continuation. This is how it must have been for every person in a war.

We're not getting around it though, it will happen, maybe not for all of us, perhaps military and police can take care of it, some of us might sit it out and look or contribute something else. It will happen though and soon.

Le Pen will most likely win, I think Trump will win too...but regressives are actually a bigger problem than Islamists. What will it take for them to see sense? I honestly don't know. Times are certainly going to be interesting, that's for sure. On a side note, I just want to say that the level of intellectual debate that happens here is amazing. Compare this forum to any mainstream site (ones that think we're stupid, 'sexist' etc)...I think outside observers would be alarmed at the intellect.

Le Pen is treated like a pariah by french media, much worse than Trump in America. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think she can win the presidency, too many powerful interests arrayed against her, despite the fact that she's thrown her father under the bus. The FN will however get more representation in the Assemblée.

And my comments about terrorists vs. muggers had nothing to do with emotions.

If you do not resist a mugger, they are not likely to kill you. Their goal is money. Meanwhile a terrorists sole purpose is to kill you.

Therefore most people would rather have an encounter with a mugger than a terrorist. It has nothing to do with emotion; it is common sense.

An AK-47 is much more dangerous than a knife. Therefore most people would rather defend against a knife than an assault rifle.

Again, that has nothing to do with emotion; it is common sense.

Meanwhile your entire argument is based on statistics you refuse to provide. Who really has the emotional bias here?

It's kill or be killed. It's really that simple now. Who's the baddest mother fuckers on the planet? The underground clutch of American MEN who are silently banding together - or alone, doesn't matter - to erase the undoing of failed governments world wide.

Just sitting back, observing, silently waiting for a few more levels of retardation, until shit really pops off.

Outwardly evil men or groups aren't the most violent, not by a long shot. The truly best, most moral individuals are. You push them, push another button, prod at them.. until the actual violence that ends and begins entire empires awakes from within the cancerous beast. The free radical eater. The prion cleaner of evil pussies. Good, moral violence, that respects freedom and human life is a force multiplier of 10-fold over some twit vagg that mows down pedestrians using, suicide bombs, air planes, trucks and guns.

When it gets to the point, which arguably it may already have in your mind, to where clearly your own government can't pull the trigger when it already should have, to protect you, are you really gonna sit there and invite death to yourself, your family, and loved ones because they say not to defend yourself?

If you do, then natural selection has mass graves awaiting you. Common law, not the state law you probably think I'm referring to, but common law that's been in existence since pre-ancient Egyptian civilization states any man, in any society across the world has the right to defend himself, and eradicate threats that in any continuance, cause harm. THAT my friends, is the premise of the Golden Rule, and it's lasted for millennia.

OK, let's pull up the stats and compare the number of people killed in both countries then. BTW, it doesn't matter if those were killed with a grenade launcher or a plastic spork, when you're dead, you're dead.

http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info...ance/Crime

Murder rate:
Brazil 22
France 1.31

Murders:
Brazil 40,974 Ranked 1st (60 times more than France)
France 682, Ranked 37th.

Intentional homicide rate:
Brazil 27, Ranked 12th. (17 times more than France)
France 1.63, Ranked 34th.

About 100 people died in Nice mowed down by the terrorist truck. Annually, about 650 people are killed in France. So about a 15% increase from the baseline. So the homicide rate goes up from 1.63 to around 1.87. Compare with Brazil's 27, still orders of magnitude more violent (about 15 times more...)

Apples and oranges.

Quote:France Agonizes Over Whether Truck Rampage Could Have Been Stopped

NICE, France — Returning home after an abortive trip to find some ice cream late on Thursday evening, Mario Aufiero, a French retiree, waited patiently on the sidewalk as a big truck lumbered down the short street he needed to cross to get to his apartment building just off the Promenade des Anglais.

The truck, he said, displayed no unusual menace but upset him all the same as heavy vehicles are supposed to be banned from the sedate residential area at that hour. Moreover, it was moving in the wrong direction down the one-way street outside his apartment.

“There was nothing I could do, so I went home to bed,” Mr. Aufiero recalled.

The deeply uncomfortable question now confronting French leaders and the country’s security apparatus, however, is whether they, too, dozed off that night.

Moments after Mr. Auferio got home, the driver of the truck he had seen remorselessly turned it into a killing machine. The truck ran over scores of people as it barreled down the Promenade des Anglais for more than a mile before police officers finally stopped it by shooting to death the driver, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old Tunisian.

As investigators try to piece together what drove Mr. Lahouaiej Bouhlel to such extreme and random violence, many people in Nice and around the world are asking how, in a country that has been under a state of emergency since November, a lone driver could so easily flout elementary traffic rules and then race unimpeded through throngs of people who had gathered to watch a Bastille Day fireworks display.

As in previous years, security forces, worried about a possible terrorist attack on France’s national day, set up barriers to block traffic on the Promenade des Anglais, a crescent-shaped boulevard that stretches eastward from the city’s airport to its old port. But the barriers, crowd-control devices made of hollow metal tubes, started far to the east of where Mr. Lahouaiej Bouhlel entered the boulevard. The number of police officers on duty that night was more than usual, but nearly all were concentrated in the sealed-off area by the old port, where most people traditionally gather to watch the fireworks.

This left Mr. Lahouaiej Bouhlel more than a mile of open road on which to crush revelers who had decided to stay outside the heavily guarded spectator zone — and build up speed before he reached the first police barriers near the point where the seaside promenade joins the Boulevard Gambetta. Such was the 19-ton truck’s speed that when it first encountered any obstruction by police, “it would have required a wall of concrete” to stop it, Anthony Borré, an official in the regional government, told local television.

French leaders, including President François Hollande, who visited Nice on Friday, repeatedly praised security services for swiftly stopping the truck once they encountered it. Indeed, the truck advanced only 500 or so yards after smashing through the barriers near Boulevard Gambetta. But this was only a short part of Mr. Lahouaiej Bouhlel’s long and murderous drive.

“Why was he allowed to drive so far without anyone bothering him?” asked Pierre Roux, who, from his balcony, watched the truck plow through the crowd outside his apartment. “This is a terrible screw-up,” he said after emerging from his home early Friday to put a candle on a bloodied white sheet covering a corpse.

How big a screw-up is still being deciphered. It is not clear, for instance, whether the police tried to shoot out the tires before being able to shoot the driver, or whether smaller cities around France prepared for the possibility of a large-scale terrorist attack with the same vigilance as, say, Paris, the scene of two major attacks last year.

There, in stages starting early on France’s July 14 national day, the police snapped in place a security perimeter extending many blocks from the fireworks display at the Eiffel Tower. They closed even major thoroughfares to vehicles, including scooters, and placed checkpoints at nearly each approaching intersection to search pedestrians’ bags.

The question of whether more could have been done to prevent 84 people from being killed has been taken up with gusto by local leaders on the French Riviera, most of whom represent right-wing forces opposed to France’s Socialist government in Paris.

“National unity does not signify national naïveté or, even less, national incompetence,” Éric Ciotti, the president of the department in which Nice is located, told Nice Matin newspaper on Saturday. ”Zero risk never exists, but it is our duty and our responsibility to limit it to the maximum.”

France’s Socialist government has responded angrily to such criticism, insisting it did everything it could to prevent a terrorist attack. It pointed out that nobody expected a rampage by truck and that the attacker had never popped up on the radar of intelligence and other services that monitor potential extremists.

Still, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve announced on Saturday that he was calling up 12,000 police reserves to augment security around the country.

“When you are talking after the fact, you can always find solutions,” Stéphane Le Foll, the government’s spokesman, told Europe 1 radio on Saturday. “Those who, after a tragedy like this one, come and say that they would have had the solution, that with them, nothing would have happened, I leave them to their total lack of responsibility.”

The prefecture for Alpes-Maritimes, the department that encompasses Nice, added its own voice to the defensive chorus, issuing a statement on Saturday that said security for this year’s fireworks show had been increased with 64 national police officers and 42 from the city plus 20 soldiers. It said vehicles had been positioned to block the Promenade des Anglais beyond the closely monitored security zone but acknowledged that Mr. Lahouaiej Bouhlel had bypassed one of these control points by simply driving onto the sidewalk.

Mario Aufiero and other residents in the area near a children’s hospital where the truck entered the promenade said they had seen no extra police in their neighborhood and nothing on the boulevard to impede Mr. Lahouaiej Bouhlel’s murderous progress until it was far too late.

“Everything was like it always is every year on July 14. There was nothing to stop him until he got down to Gambetta,” said Pierre Devit, a resident on the promenade in the city’s Magnan district near the hospital.

He also asked why it had taken so long to shoot the driver. “They should have opened fire as soon as they saw the truck approaching,” he said.

Others, however, were more understanding of the authorities’ failure to quickly halt the city’s worst episode of violence since World War II.

“People need to be logical. The truck was moving at 60 kilometers an hour, so what could anyone do?” asked Jeanne-Jacques Cuny, an employee in a foundry that makes the metal barriers studded along the seafront walkway. “We can’t put police every 10 meters. That would be completely unreasonable, and people would only complain.”

The Islamic State on Saturday gloated over the success of what it called “a new, unique operation” in Nice. In a radio broadcast claiming responsibility for the attack, it warned: “Let the crusader states know that regardless of how much they mobilize their security capabilities and tighten their procedures, they will not be safe from the strikes of the mujahedeen, which will continue to beat upon their doorsteps.”

Here they sit and do the usual worthless liberal handwringing over the logistics on how to stop a 19 ton truck and what could have been done.

Some citizens even go as far as to blame security and police for not shooting the truck fast enough. Ridiculous.

How about preventing the problem in the first place by halting muslim immigration and deporting these fuckers en masse.

That's not what I said.

I said that a terrorist is more dangerous than a mugger and an AK-47 is more dangerous than a knife.

These are basic facts.

Quote:http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info...ance/Crime

Total murder rates and tourist death rates are not even close.

Of course, you already know this, as does everyone else who's ever left their home country.

How many TOURISTS are killed in Brazill annually? 2 or 3.

How many TOURISTS were killed in France in 2015? Dozens, from at least 19 different countries.

And then you consider the fact that France is experiencing dramatically more terrorist attacks as time goes on and the overall random nature of terrorist attacks.

Meanwhile Brazil receives more and more tourists each year without seeing any noticeable increase in tourist murders.

A risk analyst is going to choose the situation that's fairly static and predictible over the one that's highly volatile.

The title of the article itself is utter nonsense.

"France" is no longer even remotely a unified body of politics, but the media will gladly push the idea that "France" puts the blame not on muslim terrorism but a lack of superhero cops with pinpoint marksmanship and precognitive abilities.

Watch the liberal media tear to shreds the first cop that executes an Arab for driving suspiciously. They do that in Israel and the lefties go apeshit. Now they're saying this tragedy could have been avoided if the cops played by Israeli rules.

Pathetic.

The first sentence wasn't a problem but "This is white privledge and it's a moral imperative." sure is... REALLY? the solution to the world's ills is to go back in time to colonial racism?

I don't know where that quote is from, but do you disagree that places like India, Haiti, Algeria, Zimbabwe would be far more safe and prosperous if they were run by Europeans?

Not an argument worth getting into. My dog might be better off if I ration his food than if I give him the whole bag and expect him to do it himself, but he's an animal and he doesn't have the human right to fail.

Rhodesia failed because whites thought they could keep blacks around as second class citizens. We can argue all day long whether blacks were better off. It's irrelevant. The blacks obviously didn't think so and that's all that matters.

The current arrangements are about as moral as it gets when dealing with places like Africa. Leave the native strongmen in place and deal with them directly for resources. The blacks have it their way and we still have access business opportunities, and if the strongmen are assholes to their fellow blacks well then that's none of our business because sure as shit they'll inevitably resent our interference.

The only other option is to displace the natives utterly from areas we conquer, and that's a rough and ready solution that should only be employed when dealing with a nation that's declared themselves to be your sworn enemy.

RE: 80+ killed in Bastille Day terrorist attack in Nice, France
This terrorist driver, to begin with, should have been in jail: one month ago, he had broken the skull, with a baseball bat, of a French citizen (who survived), and was handed a very lenient 6-month suspended sentence, and was not deported back to his country (Tunisia)...

Also, he should have been denounced by his "moderate" neighbours, considering that he was trying to "rent" their mailboxes, to receive mysterious letters from abroad...

On top of that, the French cops asked him what he was doing in the truck before the attack, he told them he was delivering ice-creams... sure... but the French cops let him go unchecked, for fear of being branded "racists"... unless the French cops themselves were islamist-friendly (more and more police recruits are from the islamist suburbs, and not likely to bother their "brothers")??

So once again, responsibility lies with incompetent anti-patriotic socialistic politicians, SJW soft judges and political-correctness...

I still have faith in France, Lee. I can just feel it. The tidal wave of rage is coming, and those who caused all these problems will face justice.

Don't give up! The resistance has just begun.

I will use this post of yours to rant a little bit.

I have read many comments (I will not name the posters) saying that Europe is doomed to become the United Emirates of Europe.

Especially from those from the other side of the Atlantic, who probably have never been to Europe in the first place.

I am sick of this bullshit.

The fact is that the tide is turning. When you take into account the following things...:

1. Brexit
2. Growing popularity of the alternative media (such as Breitbart) - especially amongst the younger population, an slow demise of the "old" media.
3. Growing popularity of anti entablishment parties (FN, AFD, PVV...).
4. Growing desperation of the globalist elite.

...you can see that the Giant is waking up. He can be slowed down...but not stopped.

Every terrorist attack, such as this one, will just make the process faster.

Enough with despair. Europe will be great again, and will be purged of the cancer of political correctness, sooner rather than later.

I'm not so sure. I think there is a tide shifting...you won't notice it on social media, because of the threat of shaming the only vocal people are the staus-quo'ers. But you do see it on comments sections, including underneath Guardian articles. Moreover, the chattering classes can hate on Le Pen in their broadsheet rags all they like, but it will be the white working class who votes her in, and they don't pay any attention to those kind of newspapers. What we're going to see (I think) in France, Sweden, Austria and even maybe Germany to a smaller extent is a white working class revolt.

On a side note, this a sobering article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/articl...uture.html

Britain managed to get out by the skin of their balls, at 52-48. But France has DOUBLE the Muslim population Britain does. Seems very unlikely for the country to survive via democratic means.

France's best hope is that the Muzzies don't vote on the next election, because of apathy or stupidity, which is still a very real possibility. Even in England's EU referendum, the turnout was much higher among natives.

Personally though, I think France is fucked. It may be the case that only Anglo countries survive the PC disease, because of their strong traditions of freedom of speech.

I think Europe (save Britain) in general is fucked, I think this is why Trump wants to disband NATO and side with Russia, We don`t need to defend a continent that pretty much welcomes their enemy in their own gates.

I personally have stopped caring about Europe, I realized that Just like India, I probably will never want to visit that area in my lifetime. I wanted to before of course but now with all the craziness there...no.
