One of my male directors is due to have a kid with his wife in the next month, so there was a surprise "baby shower" arranged by some female workers (most are married with kids). They started talking about how it was to give birth - the last thing I wanted to hear is people talking about C-sections and how baby shit is coloured black just after the baby is born!

One guy who has a kid spoke about how he cut the umbilical cord etc.

I don't have any kids, but if I could help it I wouldn't want to be in the room if my woman was having my kid. I'm pretty old school when it comes to this. In my family no man of my parents' generation or the generations before that was in the room when their wives gave birth. Obviously in other cultures the men are in there, so things are different for them.

Where do you guys stand on this?

No. Having children is woman's job. How many species of mammals have the males in attendance during birth? 0. No man wants to watch his wife's vagina get obliterated when a baby passes through.

I'm studying to be a doctor so i'll be seeing other people children being born.
It wont be a big deal for me.
Also it's comes in handy when they kid grows up and gets out of line you can say:
"I brought you into this world my two hands and i will take you out of this world with them"

Sure, I'd be supportive like a rock, especially for the first born. If you can't stand the site of blood and guts, you are better off in the waiting room.

Any children after the first born, will be like 'eh, you know what to do" to the woman having my child and just stay in the other room.

I was in the room when my kid was born, it was a CSection but there was a blanket up so I didnt see much, though to me it didnt matter because I wasnt with the mother. It was about one of the best moment when they pulled my daughter out and handed her directly to me, I think you'd be a fool to skip out on that simply because "I'm old schoool" , now if you cant stand blood and guts as eradicator said hes 100% right stay away far far away because what you do see is fucking disgusting.....But thats just my opinion

I reckon this is one of the few times it isn't beta to just ask your wife what she would prefer.

Yes, men were traditionally excluded from birthing but the relevant women of the tribe were there instead and played a support role, so unless her mother and her older sisters are going to be in the room with her she's probably going to want someone there.

I know this will be a controversial topic and many men will say they won't do it and I must wonder - whats wrong with you? I seriously wonder you have it all together.

I have done it and for me it was not about the woman at all. I know the feminized perspective of society is that you do this to support your woman - yeah yeah - I give lip service to that, I held her hand and so on but this is just a side motive or even a ruse if you will.

For me it was about my son - my own genes, my own continuation, my own image - seeing him getting born, hearing his first cry, holding him in my hands even before the mother, cutting the umbilical cord, seeing his similarity to me - all unforgettable experiences. This has made me richer in many ways. Many times when I want to sloth it up in my personal growth I remember my son, particularly such impressive moments as him getting born and I push on harder because I must me a great role model to him.

What would you rather do instead? Sit in waiting room and read stupid magazines? Or have another day at office crunching some numbers, printing papers?

To those pussies who worry about the virginity of their eyes - you are ridiculous. You see worse shit on internet 10 times a day.

Fuck I would have insisted on seeing my son getting born even if my woman would have been against it, luckily this was not the case. Not that it has to do with luck, more with my smart selection of mother of my child.

This is a more a case of maturity. Speak to other men who have done it before and get your thoughts on the best way to go about it. Saying you don't want to see it because it will gross you out and so on so forth..well then maybe you are not ready to have a family.

You might want to pass on the acutal birth. You will be amazaed at what comes out of that thing. Most girls also shit while they are pushing the baby out. I say its better for females alone to be in their. Wait until they get the goo of your baby and clean up all the blood and guts. If you watch your wife give birth from the catcher's angle you may never look at it the same again.

In general I believe separation of the sexes is a good thing. Traditionally it was always women who would be at the birth and there is probably a reason for that.

I would be at the waiting room pacing up and down.

They talked about it on NPR a few years back. Many of the guys they interviewed said if they could do it again, they'd stay out of the room while their kid is being born. They said it was emasculating to see their wife in distress while being powerless to do anything about it.

This is another great example of the wisdom of our ancestors. It was always the wife's female relatives and village specialists attending the birth. Men out hunting / conquering to ensure a better world for their son. The SJW would be trying to find fake tits on Amazon to breastfeed his new baby.

I used to think like most guys commenting. I actually don't like seeing blood either. When the time I never left the room and stayed for the whole thing. The adrenaline rush was kinda smooth, not some fight or flight impulse. My wife and I are extremely tight with each other and it just didn't feel right to walk out. I just let her death grip my arm as much as she liked, didn't hurt me of course. I think alot of the pride I have towards her is based upon how much she loves and values my physical strength. She told me she needed my arm to make it though. I Can't lie, it strokes my ego like a motherfucker. I was dissapointed there was not all this crazy screaming and crap you see on the movie. Anyway, I will be there for number 2 soon as well.

All that said, try not to look at the placenta on the floor afterwards. That part is not really worth looking at unless you just have a morbid curiosity.

I don't think there is a wrong or right answer to a question like this. Seems to be a personal choice.

It was something I didn't want to miss but there is really not much you can do other than offer encouragement and a hand to squeeze and permission to "squeeze as hard as it hurts." I had no idea my petite, children's mother had such a strong grip!

I think the presence of a close friend or relative would be the best bet. My birth was just attended by only me and my Mother. I was present for both births because my woman was young, only 19 and she didn't have any close female friends that had given birth to attend. I also considered it a hallmark event in my life and wanted to be involved and not just a passive spectator.
