RE: The POKEMON GO thread
Lots of people at my workplace are playing this. Fun concept, I like how it's encouraging people to get out into the real world to play the game.

Never did get into Pokemon though. I've always much preferred Dragon Quest Monsters. If they made something similar for smartphones, I'd definitely consider playing that.

Quote:Ok so why not pop into the video game thread and say the same thing there? After all, it's a distraction keeping you glued to a screen, what does the size of the screen or its mobility matter?

You don't keep your TV and your PS4 in your pocket, in your car, on the table at a restaurant, at a concert, etc. You play computer/console games in the confines of your home and only use it when at home with no other plans.

This is yet another reason for people to shut off from the real world and just view lives through the lens of a handheld device. I just despise smartphone-addicted culture and this is just further perpetuation.

That said, this is something I prefer over traditional games. It encourages people to get outside and visit new locations and interact with new people. Their previous game, Ingress, had a big social component where a lot of players would coordinate over the game and meet up in person to plan strategy.

RE: The POKEMON GO thread
I agree with Gen Stalin, but it's just my personal preference, and that's what I grew up with in regards to video games. Sure there were gameboys and gamegears, nomads, etc., but I never had any of those, so all my video game playing experience was in front of the tv or computer screen, stationary. Now when I play video games, it's when I am actually relaxing and reclined, because it helps to relax me at the end of the day. Like reading a book before bed.

RE: The POKEMON GO thread
Okay Bwoys, time for an update -

1. Eggs are awesome - Onyx, Cubone, Magikarp

2. You can level up your character by evolving the common pokemon (evolution gives u 500 XP). So for all the thousands of Pidgeys and Rattatas you catch, evolve them -- This costs no stardust (which is useful) and since you get a shitton of these common ones anyway, just evolve and get out of those newbie levels. You'll get much better pokemon quality at higher levels.

3. Team lures are epic - There is this place called the Quad where there were 4 Pokestops within 10 meters of each other. A bunch of people came together and sent up Lures at all 4 Pokestops at the same time, luring a shitton of people and pokemon. As more people joined in, more were able to contribute to the Lure Chain and keep the flares up once the originals went down. For 90 minutes continuously, there were ~60 people and a feeding frenzy in the same area. Newbs leveled up 3/4 times over that time. Also, meeting a lot of people at the same time - Stories were told, numbers were exchanged, strategies were discussed, and there was a general feeling of cameraderie and shared experiences.. like a giant boardgame with 60 people playing at the same time. Teams are awesome. Also, swapped vape fluids with a couple of chicks so you can say that things are getting quite serious(huehuehue).

4. Pokemon Dates are now a thing - Where people used to bounce to different places to compress different experiences within a short period of time and build a "connection", in 2016, we go hiking for grass Pokemon, then boating for water Pokemon, then back to the local pub to battle the Gym Leaders. This is a real thing. Trust me.

Channel your inner Pokemaster and strive to be the best you can.

Last time I heard about pokemon my son was 6 and hadn't gotten into yugi-oh yet. He is only 21 now and even he would rather chase pussy and money than play pokemon. This cannot be productive. Life is too short to spend your prime playing video games. Your twenties and thirties should be your prime pussy-chasing years.

I just wish it would run in the background, and makes a sound/vibrates when you're near something. So that you don't have to walk everywhere looking at the screen.

RE: The POKEMON GO thread
I'm absolutely hooked on this now. Both me and my wife got introduced to it by one of our friends.

I played alot of the pokemon games for Gameboy color, plus, etc back in the day, but I hear they have plans to put quite a few features in over time, including battling friends.

Grown men walking around after a screen to find IMAGINARY characters, which have absolutely 0 value. Hopefully this thing is just a craze, but at least it means you can actually see real life incels in the street.

I don't think it's been released in the UK yet, but I will make a point of not changing my walking path to bump in to some faggot who's staring at his phone screen trying to find Pokemom

So the takeaway here is now I'm more likely to get hit while riding my motorcycle because some fuckstick is playing pokemon at the wheel instead of just texting? Fuck.

The augmented reality aspect is pretty cool, though.

True but I'm almost thinking this could be a good thing. Yesterday's nerds werent as bad because a lot of their pastimes, like D&D, involved a lot of human interaction and required them to build both people skills and storytelling skills to be good at them. Then they retreated behind computers....and this might get them out into the light of day....and the more time these people spend in public and interacting socially the quicker bluepill ideas die.

Cool and innovative idea for sure, but really just another way to get people staring at their phones all day, most especially when out and about in the real world.

I think the issue is just that while typically the RvF community is very "live-and-let-live" with regards to what we all like to do for fun - this is just seems kinda fucking gay so shame tactics are being used to snap people out of it.

If this were a thread about how to bang women using cell-phone-game-game or how this app somehow enhances your life in a beneficial and productive way then it would probably get a pass, but really it's just a childish cell phone game that appeals to 90's nostalgia. This seems more like the kind of thing dudes in this community would unanimously ridicule.

Alright there's multiple high rep members enjoying themselves and deep in the mindset that this forum offers.

Any guy who has talked to me over the phone, has messaged me(text, PM, or otherwise), and has met me know that I'm no neck beard loser. So really can you stop derailing the thread and let us enjoy ourselves?

And your "shaming tactics" aren't working because we know we aren't losers. We are actual functioning human beings that contribute to this forum and society. You made your point 3 posts ago all this latest one does is further derail the thread.
