RE: The POKEMON GO thread
I havent played video games in years..against my better judgement i downloaded this game to check out how good the augmented reality was, its pretty good. I left my house to catch a rattata, it ran away just as i got there and i felt very stupid. deleted it right after

This game is going to be very addictive/popular

RE: The POKEMON GO thread
There may be some merit in it, but this whole "...it's good for daygame" sounds a little hamsterish. You men are playing pokemon on your phones or some shit?
My phone is for making phone calls.
Anyhow... carry on, I'll just get back to chopping firewood and drinking beer, got a big day driving trucks tomorrow.

RE: The POKEMON GO thread
^Implying you can't do all that and still catch Pokemon. Though I'm not one of those people that says it's great for day game.

Honestly it's more a male dominated thing anyways with chicks showing token support. Though I will say this, you'll meet chicks just hanging out with your friends exploring.

Drink all the beer and chop up all the firewood you want man, but a big problem even for "redpilll" guys is that they don't even know to just get out there and just walk around a city be it alone or otherwise.

Unless they're abroad, they'd prefer to be told like everyone else that this place has more hot chicks, this street is great for day game, and that club is great for girls. This place will make you feel like a man because you're drinking beer with your bros and driving lifted trucks.

Get out there and explore. Sometimes it's interesting to be a kid and explore without the express reward given to you. In the words of QC, "cultivate your sense of wonder". You'll find more than your supposed "masculinity" which if you act like a proper man will always be there and always show.

You got it man, that's the "may be merit" I implied but didn't expand on. Getting people out there is great. Just... Pokemon? I don't get it, I doubt I ever will.

Is your phone jail broken? Nintendo intentionally put that in there as they always do. Mine was and the way to get around that is getting tsProtector8+ and blacklisting the Pokemon Go app.

RE: The POKEMON GO thread
Everyone who is playing pokemon go, what are your ages?
I played video game in the 80's, 90's, 2000's, etc, but I think I missed the age for when pokemon got popular.
I remember younger kids talking about it, but figured it was just a gameboy game for young kids.

How old are you guys who play pokemon? I want to say mid 20's? Younger?
Are there any mid-30's guys who play pokemon?

I'll take a look at it but I don't really see actually "playing" it. The title is interesting to me from a business perspective because this is the first time that any augmented reality titles have had the potential to become big business.

Mid 20 to early 30s should fit just right. I am 22 and got my first Pokemon game with 7yrs.

I know some people in their early 30s whom jumped back into it for Pokemon Go. But I'd say it's up to 34 year olds that use to play it at one point.

Yes actually it's a very interesting business model. Ingress the company's previous game was also a fairly big indie hit with a similar theme, and they made quite a bit of ad revenue. One of my friends said a Taco Bell was a Pokestop in his small town.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingress_(v...ness_model

Quote:Ingress is partly supported by advertising. Companies can pay for their locations to be used as portals in the game, thus making their stores a pilgrimage site for Ingress players, which may translate into real-world sales.

Another form of advertising is sponsorship of in-game equipment. Players can virtually acquire various tools and weapons to use in the game. Sponsored versions of these include the "AXA Shield", the "Lawson Power Cube", the "SoftBank Ultra Link" and the "MUFG Capsule", all categorized as Very Rare and performing significantly better than nonsponsored versions.

In October–November 2015 Niantic added an online Store and Shop. The Store, accessed through the game app under OPS, sells in-game items that are priced in Chaotic Matter Units (CMU) [not to be confused with XM (Exotic Matter)], which in turn may be purchased for national currency in countries that permit it. Niantic's Ingress Shop, accessed through the Ingress website, sells physical merchandise such as T-shirts and patches for real currency.

My best Pokemon so far is a cp 296 pinsir

It lists his attacks as fury cutter (3) and x-scissor (30)

Does that mean his basic attack only does 3 damage? What does that 3 mean?

Just figured it out myself how that works. The 3 is the basic attack type/damage and the X-Scissor happens if you hold down the attack button after charging up enough basic attacks.

Oh and yea swiping left and right is to dodge. Most people don't realize that.

Not to come in here and be a hater/debbie-downer, but this is really just another distraction to keep people glued to their phones even more than they already are. Looks like even some of the anti-perpetually-distracted-by-smart-phone culture of RvF is into it.

Cool and innovative idea for sure, but really just another way to get people staring at their phones all day, most especially when out and about in the real world.

RE: The POKEMON GO thread
Bacan -- That attack doesnt suck -- historically it is a bug attack that goes on building power the more you attack with it.

For eg -- Attack 1 - X3
Attack 2 - X6
Attack 3 - X9 etc.

Also, one would presume that a pokemon with greater CP would do more damage with the same attack, so it has to have some sort of weighted component to it. Therefore, keep calm and increase the CP. I'd pay more attention to the type of attack and its effectiveness -- for eg since it is a bug attack, it will be very weak against flying/fire types. One more thing -- A lot of people including yours truly have found strong pincers, but I'm not spending any energy leveling it because it is weak against way too many types - Bug is weak against Fire, Psychic, Flying. Screw that.

Mentavious - I got a fucking Pidgeot bro, Level 9, starting CP 340. Save your upgrades and dust for better pokemon. Dont blow your wad too early. I also got a couple bulbasaurs, so it seems starter pokemon are available in the wild -- they're slightly stronger than average and have better attacks.

Spokepoker - Yeah the target demographic is <35 years because of their exposure to Pokemon growing up and their increased likelihood of having smartphones/using them extensively despite increased physical activity. User penetration in other demographics has been significantly lower --although that may just be good in a way because it would be really unfortunate if a 50 year old had a cardiac arrest while running to catch Metapod.
Also, maybe user acceptance will grow soon -- we're still at the early adoption phase where traditionally it is people who are younger or have a specific domain interest that start using it, testing it etc.. Maybe when it hits mainstream acceptance, other demographics may start using it more.

Tex Cruise -- No problem bro, you do your trucking and chill, others can do the pokemon and chill thing. I have spoken to about 50 new people in a day solely cas of pokemon. Many of them were men, but to say that people are hamsterbating just cas they see it as a day game opportunity is slightly unfortunate. It is just another aid, another tool. Thats the way I see it.

Stalin- For sure, it is definitely another distraction to keep people hooked on to their smartphones. But isn't one of the goals of building an app to hook people and keep them engaged for a long time? Just like social media was fueled by the narcissistic tendencies of people under the guise of "networking" and "new technology", I think the app is genius in that it led the target demographic's nostalgia funnel its rapid acceptance -- even getting people to physically exert themselves for the hit. And atleast in my neck of the woods, EVERYBODY is on it (in what, a day?). Firemen, pizza delivery boys, librarians, bar-maids -- it has definitely been a very easy conversation starter.
I understand the scepticism though.

Also, for folks from Europe and wherever who were able to spoof their location to get access -- do you select a location or an area or is it randomized? (I've never spoofed my ip or anything before) -- Because if you're able to do that, it is will become ridiculously easy to capture pokemon from different parts of the world by running around in your backyard -- Articuno on Mt. Everest?? No problem. Zapdos on Kilimanjaro? Spoof your location again.

EGGS, people. They're Golden (2 km Charmanders, 5 km Lickitungs and 10 km Aerodactyls).

Finally, there is a pokemon gym right on top of the White House of course. Pity that a Blastoise occupies it.

Thanks for the reply sharkie

This game has been a big waste of time today

I left my house a couple times today for this and had the servers die on me

Also my gym battles mostly have been buggy with no Pokemon showing up

Also got to a gym and started a battle that didn't load. Looked at the gym a minute later and a new team had it with a 3x stronger Pokemon

Ok so why not pop into the video game thread and say the same thing there? After all, it's a distraction keeping you glued to a screen, what does the size of the screen or its mobility matter?
