Looks like yet another terrorist attack. Airplane departed from Paris. When will we get tough, smart and vigilant? Great hate and sickness!
He's right. Great hate and sickness is exactly right.
Time to deal with it.

When you're up in the air, you're in the hands of your pilot and those of the mechanics who worked on your plane. If either of those fail, there's really not much you can do.
And I have flown a lot, international and otherwise. Stuff like this is just making me nervous is all.
Completely agree. I'll add to this that there is a palpable (to me) sense of menace every time I have to suffer through a take-off, and I used to fly twice a week every week for 2 years straight without it going away. You're sitting in a machine weighing hundreds of tons, much of its mass composed of jet fuel, and relying on the perfect functioning of millions of individual parts manufactured by thousands of companies all over the world. Moreover, this machine is worked tirelessly; the Airbus in this particular story had 48,000 flight hours on it, which means it was in the air nearly 6 years! All the while it is subject to stresses of landing, turbulence, and the countless pressurization and depressurization cycles.
All this knowledge is enough to make me feel ill at ease when I'm hurtling down the runway past the no-abort point, and then again when the plane is just a few hundred meters above the ground, banking, and I'm hoping none of its control surfaces jam and cause it to plunge into the ground in the space of 3 seconds.
But yeah, once at cruise I'm pretty relaxed

Thanks for this, I was sure I was the only one with this specific fear of the take off in particular. It is basically like a "Well let's see if this thing works, right?" moment. It is the equivalent of getting into a car you have never been in before, driven by someone you don't know, that immediately starts going 100 mph on the highway without the ability to brake.
I can mostly deal with turbulence now, other things still make me nervous. When they reduce the thrust at a certain altitude after takeoff, no matter how many times, I still get stressed out thinking "did the engines fail?". Or noises that I cannot associate with anything. Some plane engines make really weird noises.
Flying isn't fun for me at all. I somehow enjoy airports though.

I always get a smile when we we take off or land, just knowing how much power is behind those engines, rocketing us down that run way till we take off and then climb.
Call me an adrenaline junkie, I love that shit.
I accept that the plane I'm on can go down at any tie, I'm at peace with that.

Exactly the same for me. Take off is a huge risk. I don't know how stewardesses cope with it. I would go crazy.
Also, if I ever see a remotely Muslim looking guy I wont board that thing. Thankfully so far the routes I have been travelling, the plane was beautifully full of whites, but I only travel inside Europe.
What does "looking Muslim" mean? Looking Arab? Black? Having a long beard?
No troll, I am just curious to hear your answer.
He just hates anyone "that looks muslim".
He'd hate even seeing me 10 ft away then.
Brown with a black beard, of course he wouldn't read the military veteran foundation shirt I had on.

When you fly dozens of time each year and sometimes with some rinky dink local airlines across the ring of fire turbulence or over the pacific ocean that shit gets old real fast.
You just want to take off and land safely every time.
Yeah I agree with that, I've hit turbulence plenty in the pacific and the rockies. You're right it does get old, but taking off and landing are always fun for me.
I just can't believe we still have planes blowing up and we still haven't found that Malaysia Airlines Flight

I mean, why do people keep going to high-risk Egypt, or Tunisia? Don't they know about Cyprus, the Balearic islands, or Croatia, if they want non-expensive holiday under the sun...? Taking risks is ok, taking exaggerated risks is not okay. (disclaimer: this reasoning is valid for holiday-goers, not for businessmen)
Also, it's starting to look like the plane (and bomb??) originated from CDG Paris airport, and well, I posted, couple of times, on this forum, links to P. de Villiers' excellent book on islamism at CDG (Les Mosquees de Roissy, a must-read).
http://www.atlantico.fr/decryptage/mosqu...69118.html
In any case, one good news: the French government has, at long last, started to de-islamize the CDG airport, this year. (In 2016, French intel officers removed around 60 islamists from CDG workforce. Hopefully the airport will soon be perfectly safe again)
The fact you can't have a number of people of a particular religion in one part because soon bad shit start happening is telling, in the USA Mormons are not a big group but I read they make about 20% of all law enforcement including CIA, Secret Service, and FBI. But we do not have to worry about them doing some crazy shit, you can't have a number of Islamist in one place? then the ideology has a is a problem.

RE: EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo missing
A good source for information whenever there is a airliner crash is the airliners.net forums. Great sources of knowledge and information.
Their stuff on the AF447 that went down from Rio to Paris was amazing to read, especially regarding just how long the planes that we all travel in are out of contact sometimes.
Here is their link to the current discussion on this latest crash. Seems like it might not be terrorism, I kind of hope not because of the Implications of air travel from main hubs in Europe.
http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums...01324/1/#1
On a slightly different note, am I the only one who gets agrivated by the sheer pointlessness of the minimum wage jokers running the 'security' at airports. It's all a sham. Those who are actually awake to the reality of the kind of matrix that we all live in know that it's all a joke when we scan bags, take off shoes and belts, laptops in the tray blah blah.
No serious terrorist is going to try and get a bomb through regular security. The guys that blew up the Russian jet from Egypt smuggled the bomb on board through the baggage staff and the guys that blew up the airport in Brussels didn't even want to get on the plane.

Seems like they may be moving past the hijacking thing, mass-destruction is more popular among jihadists than martyrdom nowadays.
So if I saw a Muslim guy like that I'd probably decide he wouldn't blow himself up he would do it more discreetly, I think ISIS may be also doing this to cut down on manpower costs.
I was only teasing Glaucon, I get what he's saying.
If you think about the trend makes sense, it's easy.
Look at what the raid came up with at France's major airport, Islamist sympathizers.
They made airports softened targets, all they need to do is find people who already work there.
