To each his own as Stalin said. I am not debating on what is superior. We’re talking about suits so obviously the original and best way to wear them is with dress shoes. The purpose of a pair of tennis is to make them more versatile, in our modern days suits are more for work than for play, in opposition to the days where gentlemen would wear a suit even on a sunday. Nowadays a suit is associated to the corporate life, responsibilities, notice how people tend to assume a suited man is higher class and how often younger girls get repelled by a suit, no matter how good he looks, because it gives a too formal/uptight vibe and subconsciously they associate it with politicians and bankers.
With the sneakers (imo it can work but not with any suit and not any sneakers), you’re kind of making a statement, you’re saying you’re not a corporate slave, you’re saying you’re wearing a suit for your own pleasure, not because you have to, not because your boss will blame you if you don’t.

I never wore a suit with anything else than dress shoes but that’s because I wear suits strictly for work but I’m thinking about trying this combo in the spring or summer to go out in classy bars for instance. It can give a fun Miami vice vibe, something like this:

On another note can somebody recommend a really good slim and fashionable wallet, preferably available in Europe? I don't care about brand name, quality and utility is all that matters to me. There are hundreds on Amazons but it's a chore to browse through all.

Have you considered a cardholder? There's loads of nice options out there if so. I have the two below and can easily fit my cards and ID, £100 in cash in it. Coins I just throw in my ticket pocket. I find they look a lot sleeker than a wallet and I get loads of compliments on both of them.

The whole notion that modern suiting is all work and no play should be demolished... granted I recognize that not all people can pull this off.

All depends on the cut and color of the suit, and to some extent how chic the cities you are living in. The trick is to use a playful and young color, lose the tie, and a fun shirt.

In Paris I go on date or grab a drink with my buddies wearing this, got a lot of compliments.

And you can't tell me it's an Europe thing because our boy Ryan Gosling swoop chicks wearing these. Mine is just a shade lighter than his. I'm looking for a dark green suit but no luck so far.



You do need to get a reasonably fit body to pull this off, but that should be already on the list anyway.

It should be a crime to wear sneakers with any of these outfits, but, live and let live....

@Kieran: I am actually already using a cardholder, yes it's very convenient but over here we do have a lot of cards we have to carry: metro card, gym card, office card, credit card, ID card. Those are the bare minimum daily. A cardholder becomes clunky after the 3rd card so I have to put the extra stuff in my wallet.

Actually I should just get a second cardholder. I always preferred having a wallet with a change pocket since I always lose my change, but fuck it.

Suits can be worn casually without doing them a disservice by throwing on sneakers and a T-shirt under them. Wearing a more casual shoe, no socks, a more playful dress shirt, no tie, different pants or even jeans, and even simply wearing a more casual styled/cut suit. More playful colors and appointments, etc.

You think any of these dudes get mistaken for working at a car rental place?

It's funny you mention being worried about looking like a hipster because I was just talking to someone about this exact thing last night. Here's my take:

It's easy to dress well and not be confused with being a hipster, because there are a couple hallmarks that define hipsters that are very easy to avoid.

1.) Don't be a scrawny effeminate shit eater with a some wannabe mountain-man beard with a waxed mustache and an faggy tryhard haircut. Hit the gym, carry yourself like a man, and wear a hairstyle and trim/grow your facial hair in a way that compliments your face and overall vibe and style.

3.) And this one is the most important: don't be so damn tryhard. Your outfit and overall style should look effortless and don't go overboard. Don't wear super crazy skinny ass jeans, don't wear a bunch of different colors and patterns that clash, don't go overboard on accessories and jewelry and shit like that. Look above at the pictures of all the casual suit dudes I posted. Do they look like hipsters or like actual men that fuck women and don't suck a juul while adding the latest local IPA to their "tapped" app on their phone?

The sneakers below are called GAT (German Army Trainers)

I had some GATs, they look much cheaper in person than in the pictures unfortunately.
They ended up being my powerlifting shoes for a year or two ..

IMO men should only wear a nice watch. Wristbands are for <30. No earrings, piercings.

One problem I often see is people dressed well but wearing totally worn off shoes.
Repairing a good pair is cheaper than buying a new one or look out of control.

Lots of labels have done variations of the German army trainers. I had a pair from Dior Homme back in about 2004 that I liked. They were sleeker and higher quality than the originals, but not all that different really. I don't think I'd wear them these days as they got a bit killed out back around that sort of time all the indie kids were wearing them. The original ones are made by Adidas I think, could be wrong though. Margiela does them as well but I don't like his versions, as do several other labels.

Jewelry is dependent on the individual. Older dudes can totally rock a bracelet or necklace if they are congruent with it and have that sort of "badboy" rockstar look.

Get a watch so you don't have to look at your phone constantly. A watch is smaller than a phone, and much more discrete.

Lately, when I am outside, I notice that a lot of guys keep their hands inside of their pockets all the time. If it is January, it makes sense. But, right now...it's May! It's quite warm outside!


Same thing with clubs. Although I am not longer a fan of them, in the pictures, I can see that 80% of the guys keep their hands inside.


Keeping your hands inside of your pockets means that you are afraid and insecure. Of what? Of whom?


Not to mention that one of the most important accessories a man can have - a nice watch, can't be used to a great effect. You can buy the most expensive Patek Philippe, but if you keep your hands inside all the time...it won't have an desired effect. Before someone attack me for being shallow - we all are, in one way or another.
