Once upon a time, the condescending label for anyone who questioned the data around climate change was "climate change skeptic." However, it soon became clear that this label didn't have the insulting tone which they intended, since skepticism is a vital component of the scientific process and nothing to be ashamed of. So by changing the word "skeptic" to "denier," they were able to effectively shut down any dissenting views as being crazy and unscientific, regardless of whether or not these views were actually crazy or unscientific.

Every time I hear about this vegan "Earth carrying capacity" crap, it makes me want to switch to a diet composed entirely of the meat of man-eating predators that were fed exclusively a diet of first-world humans. Like a tiger that was fed nothing but Americans who used incandescent light bulbs in their homes, now that's a lot of energy per pound of meat.
