Question Are women capable of saving $?
With rare exceptions, I've come to notice that most women are unable to save money for rainy days or live below their means. As soon as they come into a higher bracket, they ramp up their lifestyle to get an apartment in the better part of town, go binge shopping on clothes, makeup, and shoes, and go out to eat at nice restaurants. At best, most women can budget, though an ability to save is rare.

I've heard some women say that they don't need to cook or know domestic skills since they can pay their own way. It's rare that women will follow through with that, they'll be happy to accept freebies and rarely reciprocate on a tit for tat basis you'd expect with your friends. Some women can do it at first, but it's rare to see it held up over a long period consistently.

Her money is almost always seen as her money. Not both of yours, not something to help out in a partnership, but hers alone to do with as she wants. But your money is seen as the communal pot to pay for going out, vacations, etc. It's a one way street.

I think this entitled attitude makes sense, as it helped women survive and put pressure on their partner to be able to provide for their family. Learning how to save just isn't part of their programming. At the end of the day, most men are better suited towards managing the family assets. This seems to be less true in SEA.

I tried an LTR with a woman who couldn't boil an egg because she was hot, otherwise enjoyable to spend time with, and insisted on paying her way. But eventually she got lazy, made lame excuses for not booking vacations, and couldn't hold up the expectations she set. I've come to think that so called equal relationships, or stay at home dad arrangements are simply unnatural. A woman resents a man that can't provide more resources than her, and a woman knows her inability to keep house is a weakness.

Thoughts?

RE: Are women capable of saving $?
I think it depends on the woman, how she was raised, and in which economic circumstance she's used to.

My ex (admitted sample size of one) saved money from working as a restaurant hostess to buy plane tickets to fly back to El Salvador to visit family on different occasions, and rarely bought things just for herself. I'll caveat by saying that you could argue she saved money for a specific thing as opposed to a rainy day - but there you have it.

My 0.02.

Saving money requires strong inner discipline and rigorous self control.
Women have neither.

RE: Are women capable of saving $?
I'm as redpill as they come but some perspective is needed here. To present an alternative point of view, in Asia, specifically places like China, Japan and Vietnam, the male earner would give his paycheque to his wife who would give him his allowance and then use the rest of the money to manage the household, save, invest, etc.

In Ireland around the turn of the century, men were so profligate with spending money on drink at the expense of putting food on the table for their families that employers would give the paycheque to the wives on payday.

Development banks have found that when they give women small loans they use it to better their families and their repayment is quite high.

Having said all that, I do know of women of varying ages in the US and Canada who are exceptionally bad at managing money, but then I know an equal if not greater number of men who are equally bad. A lot of people are willfully ignorant when it comes to financial management; the number of people I know who spend money or money they don't even have, aka credit, on dumb, consumption-oriented things blows my mind. I notice it's a demographic issue. Over the past couple of years I got exposed to a more blue-collar Canadian crowd through a friend and their money woes are staggering. Not because they make less; a lot of them are in trades and have small businesses and probably make more money than the white collar/educated demographic - rather their money woes are due to a consumption-oriented lifestyle. They believe things give them status.

I know one guy who spent over $120,000 "pimping up" his ride for ego-gratification (he always tried to couch in terms of "investment" which was bullshit) and now he's thinking of selling the car for under $10,000. Another woman is always boasting about the Loubotins and other brand names her husband buys her; the husband boasts too. I assume my more educated female friends are interested in the same brands but I rarely hear them talk about it. I find that often the conversations revolve around how much superflous things cost, rarely are ideas or experiences discussed. Very boring.

I might sound like an elitist but I don't care as more and more I'm appreciating the smoothing out of social graces that an education and travel provides.

My ex was a big saver, but she was a doctor so probably higher than average IQ and impulse control.
She worked a ton of overtime to buy a house, had an old cheap car etc... So there are girls who are like this our there, mind you she was Hungarian.

I agree with Glaucon,

Women can be fiscally responsible but it is rare. There are also fiscally irresponsible men who over extend themselves on cars, vacations, video games, gadgets, boats though.

I am interested to see how the current glut of irresponsible women pans out with a declining economy though. Seems like most are turning to soft prostitution "sugar daddies" "instagram whoring" "milking betas" vs learning to cook for themselves.

I predict a positive relationship between the number of children a woman has as part of a family (with a husband) and her ability to save money and stretch dollars.

Children do wonderful things to women because they are the only things that a woman can consistently love more than herself.

A child does not make a bitch into a saint. There are plenty of self centered bare minimum moms out there...that are also usually divorced.

RE: Are women capable of saving $?
Hate to rain on your parade but most men can't save money either.

I can count on one hand how many guys I know who are able to save and invest and exercise any sort of financial prudence. However, I can't even begin to count how many guys I know who live paycheck to paycheck.

Like the posters above said, a lot comes down to how you were raised. I went to prep school in HS for a few years and most everyone I know from there - men and women - have saved for their future. Then I went to a state university and when I keep in touch now most haven't saved anything. The guys I know who went to public HS, some of them don't even have bank accounts.

This forum really is an exception to the mass of the world when it comes to men who consider it wise to save and invest rather than spend thriftlessly like a 30k millionaire.

Isn't this more of a class thing then a gender thing? I've dated plenty of women who seemed fiscally responsible, and plenty who weren't. The traditional ones are always the more responsible ones. In fact, I'd bet there is a correlation between how wasteful they are with money to how many men they have been with, since both are impulsive in nature.

Yes. It's rare but they can. Mine saved a significant amount( almost a year's wages for most people) working as a retail manager over a period of years.

If she cared about her kids, she would keep her husband happy, not divorce and there wouldn't be an obesity problem.

Like most things in their lives, women might love their children, but that doesn't translate to them actually sacrificing her immediate happiness for their good.

I would agree that a child doesn't make a bitch into a saint, but that it makes a bitch into a lesser degree bitch.

Throw in a husband who gives his wife an allowance to feed and clothe the children with and I think you would get even better results.

In the example picture below, you have a slutty teen mom, but there is still a degree of difference between passed out party slut and regular old attention whore. I admit that it is only some difference though. . .

While these other threads weren't framed around OP's specific question, this topic has been covered.

This thread is a 'must-read' forum classic

Relevant ROK article and discussion

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

Just yesterday, at work, I overheard a girl saying she spent her entire monthly paycheck on the pay day buying a ton of clothes, a watch and other accesseries. But she is still a bachelorette.
Married chicks are more frugal, but still waste a lot, I guess.
And I am sure they have no savings, as they constantly borrow money around.

http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-n...r-debt.php

Young women carry more debt than young men do. Simply put, all those shopping sprees, vacations and lattes aren't paying for themselves.

Now, there are certainly exceptions to the rule, but in general with social media, women want to show off how glamorous their lifestyles are, even if they can't afford it. This is a byproduct of allowing women into college en masse and encouraging them to take on student loan debt as well. Women as a society, aren't taught proper money management, and that their worthless soft science degree won't get them what they really need, a husband that will chain them to the stove, while he goes out and makes the paper necessary to have a functional family and culture.
