Don't believe everything you read on the internet. The "bounty" is BS to generate buzz for Trump. The guy runs a conglomerate, cappin' Trump does not bring any good attention.

This dude reminds me a bit of Usama's courier system, where things get handed in person where delivering one thing takes days and many trips. El Chapo has a bunch of dudes with him but not one can speak English.

Even he admits it, El Chapo simply supplies drugs to meet the demand. He does not force anyone to snort or smoke his products.

It definitely won't be part of his campaign platform but if elected, I'd like to see Donald Trump end the "War On Drugs". Its been a massive failure as far as keeping people off them goes but there's too many influential people and organizations (politicians, prison system, police, population control, etc) who want to see it maintained, for shame.

^ I'd say it's more likely the meetup compromised security and they were tracked. Penn would have risked too much - not only his life but also his reputation - and it's too obvious (you can be sure Chapo at least considered it). Not to mention that, regardless of what you think of him, I don't think he's the type.

In any case, makes you wonder if the big man made a huge mistake lowering his guard too much because of his affection for the Mexican model, though...The interview never would have been granted without that dynamic.

So, was he, at the end of it all, really brought down because of a woman?

if Sean Penn were a normal person he'd already be dead. whether or not they think it's directly Sean's fault doesn't really matter. Anyone remotely associated with him getting captured would be tortured and executed...and probably their families too.
Maybe they won't cross that threshold of killing an American celebrity, since they still have an empire to run...will be a rare case of acting rationally to avoid further problems.

Because El Chapo is a good guy and totally not responsible for being a ruthless business man in a part of the world where brutalising, torturing and murder is the order of the day. Where you have families and friends disappear and end up delivered to your door via Mexican UPS in neat little pieces.

He may not be as indiscriminate as Los Zetas and their allies but they are part of the problem.

And Sean Penn? Just another guy who thinks the world should jump to his tune.

In the past they didn't have any intention of extraditing him. Now, after the most recent escape, they likely see sending him to the US as a way to wash their hands of him while reducing their exposure to further humiliation if he was to escape again.

Sometimes I agree, but this guy had the resources to escape TWICE already. As long as he delays extradition he's got a chance.

The war on drugs is a huge industry. Legalizing marijuana put a huge dent in it but there's just too much at stake for it to go away completely.

The war on drugs has a direct hand in enabling:

The military industrial complex. Lots of money goes into domestic armaments and multilateral arms deals overseas specifically for the war on drugs.

The private prison industry. Shit loads of money gets thrown around everywhere.

Civil forfeiture. Local police and federal authorities make unknown amounts of money through confiscating private possessions through permissive search and seizure and civil forfeiture laws.

The war on drugs definitely allows various intel agencies a very broad latitude to engage in pretty shady activity that would normally be scrutinized. The CIA has a long track record of using the war on drugs to raise funds and use money in this way.

There's probably also very large business interests who want to keep the war on drugs ongoing too. It helps crack down on cheaper "illegal" alternatives to legal and highly addictive drugs like Oxycontin. The pharm industry and tobacco/alcohol companies were active lobbies against marijuana legalization.

There's also a lot of individual corrupt politicians in many countries who benefit financially from the war on drugs in various ways. Either they get outright kickbacks (like in Mexico, Honduras, Colombia, El Salvador, etc..) or they benefit through lobbyist money through indirect methods like in the U.S.

The main beneficiaries on the war on drugs are military, civil law enforcement, corrupt politicians, and big business. This is why it's been so hard to end the war on drugs.

I see your point, but I can't see el Chapo escaping again: it would force the Mexican president to quit and abandon politics forever. Unless some people (Pena Nieto's political adversaries) would want just that...?
