Life wasn't easy back then, working conditions sucked, pay was low and then you got drafted into a shitty war that you may not have come back from. I'm pretty sure it was like that all over Canada back in those days.

My point of view is shaped by the stories I've heard from older family members who grew up in rural Nova Scotia in the 30s-60s where poverty levels were quite high, their lives were pretty rough, it was basically third world level shitty for them working on farms, fish plants, coal mines and steel plants. Of course, most of those jobs are gone now and my family scattered all over the country, we've been goin' down the road for generations now, a tradition that I've continued.

I would like to re-start this thread by asking Canadians on this board: how is Trudeau handling the sexual harassment thing, where he supposedly groped or otherwise aggressively came on to a reporter? He can’t say that she’s lying because it’s always “believe the woman,” and he can’t say lets forget about it because there is “zero tolerance” (hell, Aziz Ansari, as much as I dislike his politics, was raked over the coals for offering his date the wrong kind of wine). He even dismissed a few people in the government, if I’m not mistaken, over similar accusations. So, how is the press handling this? Are the papers and inter webs and SJW public in general letting him off the hook because he one of theirs? And if so, are conservative outlets crying foul?

The only Canadian media that even ran this story was The Rebel. The Canadian MSM very reluctantly covered the Trudeau groping allegations after it was picked up by several international outlets, it came out during the G7 conference in Quebec but took the Canadian media another week or so to publish anything on it. The woman who wrote the article to her local paper was eventually contacted and said that she didn't want to pursue any charges and that was basically it, I'd say she was likely paid to shut up. I really hope that Scheer hammers him on this during next year's election.

As for the Saudi issue, this really is a pivotal moment for Trudeau and he can use this issue to please Canadians on the right and the left if he plays his cards right, which he likely won't due because he's an incompetent pussy. Basically this is what I think he should do: cancel all Saudi imports and cancel the military hardware contract we have with them to supply arms.

Oil: Canada imports Saudi oil to our largest refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick. A major pipeline called Energy East, which would have brought Alberta oil to the east coast was cancelled, mainly because of Quebec (who else?). That pipeline would have employed many Canadians like me in its construction and would have been good for the Alberta oil patch and our entire country.

Arms deal: Under the previous government, Canada negotiated a deal to build and supply Saudi Arabia with Light Armoured Vehicles in a deal worth billions that employs 2500 people at a plant in London, Ontario. Many on the left have criticized both our previous and current governments about Saudi human rights abuses in neighbouring Yemen. I’ve been following the Saudi Arabia story but haven’t heard anything about the alleged harassment recently, so I thought I would ask some regular Canadians if there has been any repercussions, people talking about it, etc.

It sucks that the media is so beholden to the government. It’s one of the things I don’t like about the CBC/ BBC model, despite their outward appearance of professional detachment. In the US, networks are more reliant on advertisers than politicians, though I don’t know if that’s a much better option.

The main reason I was asking is because there seems to be a selective application of #metoo that has been gaining ground. A lot of leftists politicians, entertainers, news people, etc., have been caught up in metoo, which I’m sure was very unintended when the SJWs first started this, and now they are backtracking selectively when one of their own gets in trouble. It first started with Al Franken, and calls for him to withdraw his resignation or run again for office, right after he was caught mock “groping” a sleeping woman. James Gunn also received a surprising amount of support from actors and Hollywood insiders, despite his pedophile comments (nobody in Hollywood would be caught dead running to Roseann’s defense on Twitter despite how many billions she generated for the networks).

Of course, it’s patently unfair, though it would follow a consistent pattern on the left. On the bright side, if there is a continued push for a double standard, eventually the metoo movement will no longer be taken seriously and maybe the witch hunt will finally come to an end.

I really don't know how to feel about the CPC at this point. In private, Scheer is supposedly a die-hard Opus Dei militant traditionalist Catholic. His public persona leaves much to be desired. Now, with Bernier forming his own conservative party, I fear a split vote situation. This could be a repeat of the PC/Alliance/Reform situation that brought thirteen straight years of Liberal rule.

On the other hand, I don't know if I want the soft c conservative party to win. It seems like in Canada, the major parties have to play to the SJW lines or the media destroy them in the public eye. At this point, I more closely align with obscure parties like the CHP and National Citizens Alliance. But, those parties would be lucky to ever get a few MPs in (unless something very drastic happened).


On a related note, and something I have been thinking about...

There seem to be a number of Canadians on this forum (and a number of expat Canadians which is even better). Did you know that Canadians do not have to live in Canada to run in a federal riding? There is no requirement. You just have to meet the other eligibility requirements. Thus, an idea. Contact your local branches of more "traditional" parties and offer your name to run in the next federal election. They are always looking for people to run because it helps them keep their official party status. You could run your entire campaign from a Twitter account. Just troll the LPC/NDP/whoever, Trump-style. Alternatively, you could go really Machiavellian and run as a leftie. Don't register as an LPC/NDP. Register with one of the hippie parties or run as an independent. Throw down every stereotype in the book. Hell, at this point, you could probably support paedophilia and get a fair number of votes. The idea would be to split the left vote, and steal enough voters to ensure a win for a marginally more right-leaning candidate.

Just a thought. Just a thought.

The best part is he's losing a woman, it messes with his treasured gender numbers! It also shows a woman rejecting Turdeau, which can be held as an example for other Canadian women who might follow suit. Scheer can make her a mouthpiece in the campaign to steal some female vote, explaining why she switched sides.

All in all just an opportunist move on her part. Her riding went hard for Dougie Ford in the provincials. Her military logistics work gives her conservative cred. She'll be a sure bet to win the riding.

I think the issue is that this would be a burned vote, and would help to divide the conservatives enough that Trudeau gets a second term. I agree with the platform pretty much to a T, but what is the likelihood of Bernier doing much with this party besides creating a faction in the PCs?

That's what worries me, I like Bernier and supported his bid for Tory leader since the beginning and think that Scheer is a huge pussy but I just want to see Trudeau voted out.
