Hearing the word "liberal" applied to today's social justice warriors has become a thorn in my side. Because it's a misnomer. They're not really liberal -- not as we came to know liberalism during its heyday in the 1960s.

The word liberal is defined by Miriam-Webster as "not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or traditional forms."

This is actually the opposite of what today's SJWs are. They authoritarian.

* They police words and behaviors ("hate speech," speech codes, etc.).

* They get people fired for "incorrect" beliefs.

* They get people with different beliefs banned from countries.

* They get groups and people they disagree with thrown off Facebook.

* They characterize different opinions and criticism as "hate."

* They stop people from making their views heard at public forums.

* Insert your own awful story here (I recently met someone who got thrown out of a Facebook group for her hometown because she merely questioned the methods of Black Lives Matter activists.)

This is not being liberal. Liberal once meant doing what you feel, offensive music and comedy, "if it feels good do it," "I'm OK, You're OK" (the last two were actual sayings). Liberal was Woodstock, George Carlin, The Fugs, Phil Ochs.

They might not have liked "straights," but they didn't seek to ban them. Abbie Hoffman was a big-time agitator, but he was not getting people to shut down lectures when he didn't agree with the speaker.

So I'm calling on people to come up with a better way to define today's left. Such a word would allow others to see them for what they are. It would also force the SJW crowd into facing the fact that they're not open-minded at all.

If the rise of the word "cuck" showed us anything, it's that the manosphere, Twitter, the alt-right, and neo-masciulinity crowds can bring a word into the mainsteam.

As I've said before, people think in words. If we don't have an accurate word, we can't think a thought properly because we can't define it in our brains.

"Cuck" defined a very specific type of conservative. Calling these people "conservative" or "neo-cons" didn't fit. Now we have a word that does and just the mention of it conjures a certain type of person.

Now it's time to redefine "liberal." I came up with this basic idea, so I'm calling on others to find the actual word -- or hybrid word. It needs to define someone who thinks only they themselves should have freedom and wants to ban all other viewpoints.

"Free speech for me, but not for thee" -- in one word.

I like "histrionic." It reminds people of the word "hysterics" without having an explicitly biological ("sexist") meaning.
Histrionic is Greek for "actorish," implying insincerity and diva-like behaviour.

I am fine with calling them "Soviets" since that mindset is very similar. However that harkens to the Red Scare all the way back to after WWI.

So calling them regressive is kind of like calling a pickpocket "butterfingers."
The pickpocket won't like it, but it won't make him rethink his priorities, either.

This is also why accusing them of patronising racism won't work.
They'll either ignore the criticism or redouble their efforts.

"Crybully" doesn't work, because even shitlibs would rather be the bully than the victim.

In Russian, there is a word liberast (либераст) which is used by conservatives to insult liberals. It's a combination of the words liberal and pederast (a Russian word for a homo).

I agree. I often use the term leftist because liberal doesn't apply. Old school liberals were all about having an open debate and were anti-censorship. Liberals like that are a dying breed today.

The left was anti-censorship, yes, but that was during a time when leftist ideas were the most likely to be censored; the measure of someone's support for the principle of free speech isn't when their ideas are unpopular, it's when their opponents' ideas are unpopular.

I've been thinking along the lines of "unprincipled".

What drives modern leftists (other than derangement) is the idea that they stand for something, that they're cultured and intelligent. They're making a difference in the world and making it a better place!

I think the way to really dig into their psyche is to point out that they don't actually stand for anything, that they're willing to totally compromise their so-called beliefs if it helps their team. For instance, their willing to defend things in Hillary that they would screech about for eternity in a Republican candidate.

"The fact that you're willing to defend the woman who syphoned off aid money from starving children in Haiti is proof that you don't have any real principles or values. You support someone that doesn't promote any of the beliefs you claim to hold dear."

Obviously we need that to be delivered in something very condensed and visceral though, which is where I'm coming up short.

Regressives has been said, but it's a good one. My mind goes to words like "libfag" and such, but I think something backhanded rather than an outright insult should be the go-to.

Socmarxists, maybe? Or, Marxicans/Marxese/Marxites.

Jacobin is (chillingly) accurate, but most people have no idea what the word means.

Snowflake is already in active use. It would be easier to appropriate it for this purpose than inventing a new term. Same for Pajama Boy, but it's not quite as pithy (one advantage of "cuck" is that it's a single syllable).

Think about what makes "cuck" so effective. It's viscerally offensive to those it's used against, not because of its supposed origins in white supremacist forums but because it pushes several psychological buttons in conservatives. Even though the term is used metaphorically, referring to their political positions and actions, it implies that they are sexual deviants, that they are lacking in masculinity, that they acquiesce in the violation of their vows and integrity, that they are shamefully impotent and subordinate, etc., all of which stab at the core of their self-image as the defenders of traditional values and norms of behavior. Simply calling them cowardly enablers of or even shameful accomplices in the destruction of everything they claim to value and stand for is nowhere near as effective as triggering their sexual insecurities by metaphorically equating that behavior with a sexual perversion. It's Vox's rhetoric/dialectic thing in action.

What accusation would get under a leftist's skin in the same way?

One possibility is not taking their ideas and values seriously. Leftists are very earnest people when it comes to their politics. "Snowflake" actually works on that level by making a mockery of identity politics and speech policing (sneering at hairsplitting uniqueness in the one case, and fragility in the other).
