What are your guys' thoughts on all the recent drama with Souljah Boy and Migos/Chris Brown, Kodak Black and Lil Wayne, etc?

Childish attention-seeking or Trumpian persuasion (exaggerated/outrageous statements leading to increased publicity and exposure, sometimes followed by slight backpedaling)? Both?

^^^I stopped caring about drama after Drake/Meek.

Starting shit in the rap industry is an easy way to make more money by getting people to talk about you for free. Simple marketing.

Having said that, Chris Brown will always be one of the realest in terms of artistry. Underrated. Releases good mixtapes consistently. Does softy Drake do that? Nah, his preppy fans get played.

These mid/late 90s rappers are washed, I say that as someone that came up in that era. They had their time. Rappers in their 40s still glorifying drug dealing and street life. Same old flows, content and delivery....meh

Guys do yourself a favour and listen to this group. I've been listening to these guys non-stop the last three weeks, their music is fantastic. In a reddit AMA they said their biggest influences are Outkast, Tribe, Kanye, Clipse and the Neptunes and you can hear it in their music, so if you like one of those artists give them a shot (the song I posted earlier sounds very reminiscent of mid-2000s Neptune with smooth as butter Pharrell-sounding flow on the first verse)

But you should really listen to their most recent album, its an intriguing mix of club bangers, jazzy introspective tracks and a couple out there experiments. Almost all of it works, the first six songs are all five stars in my iTunes. At this point I've listened to it so much I'm really trying not to overlisten to it so I can drag it out a little more and savor it. I think these guys are gonna blow up, they're great at riding some of today's trends while still maintaining their own identity and trying some cool things of their own. Check 'em out!

I didn't even know when the Grammy awards were on lol.
But Chance the Rapper won big. He took 'new artist', 'rap performance' and 'rap album' of the year.

To complete the picture, drake's 'hotline bling' track claimed the other 2 awards in the rap category.

I understand when it comes to music everyone is entitled to their own opinion but i found this comment interesting.

Is a 'good guy' version of rap any less valid than a 'bad guy' version of rap? Let's face it, artists like Chance and early Kanye are popular because people relate to them. A song like Summer Friends or Kanye's Family Business on college dropout is much more relateable to the average listener than cocaine kingpin/goon rap, because they actually had those experiences. Few of us have chopped bricks with baking soda, despite the thousands of tracks dedicated to it.

Chance's record was able to crossover similar to College Dropout because he featured artists from across the spectrum. Kanye's debut had tracks with Talib Kweli and Mos def but also Twista and Freeway. Chance has mainstream trappers like Lil Wayne and Two Chainz but also underground spitters like Jay Electronica.

Btw I like Blankface a lot, I just like Chance's album better

Just had a listen. I agree it's good. It's new territory for Kendrick as the artistic scope of DAMN is not as large as what was attempted with the previous 2 albums.
Still it's a success for the label, TDE. They hold the secret, whatever that is.

Track 11 featuring U2 sounds like the album's best.

Can't rate DAMN for now, it might be too early.

Hope Kendrick will release at least another 5 or more albums.
