It used to not be big deal, I don't mind references to drinking and pot smoking but now it's all about pills and lean, etc. I'm sure it's a multifaceted issue involving problems with society and young people being more depressed than ever, but I don't get it. I agree with you. It might have something to do with the record labels & their sinister agendas. But I guess that's the conspiracy theorist in me.

Rap died a slow death, beginning in 90 and ending in 1993. Punk Rock beforehand was absorbed into Rock.

There were some true Hip Hop legends tho, e.g. Biggie and Tupac. But it's a different avenue, like Jazz and R&B.

My own style in the 80's was a Punk Rock/Rap hybrid.

RE: Rap/Hip-Hop Thread
Gonna post some of those underground classics from way back. Who is down with this hard hitting underground rap?

Mr.Lif - Because they made it that way

"Poetry ends when money contends the recipe blends and becomes diluted
Polluted in fact, but check whos been recruited
Intact with rhymes for your mind
Everydays a struggle 'cause society frames you
But raise your head and walk with pride because i came to...

[KRS-One sample x2] "Make It Better"

Cyne - Steady

"We let the mic breathe life to dying breeds
In need we feed words that breed hope
Maneuver past the greed indeed
We made the eagle fly
We made freedom cry by watching them try deceiving the eye"

Dilated Peoples - Worst come to Worst

"I got worldwide family all over the Earth
And I worry bout 'em all for whatever it's worth
From the birth to the hearse, the streets, the guns burst
Words I disperse are here to free minds
And if mine are needy I need to feed mine
When worst come to worst"

Apathy - I remember (Thomax remix)

King Geedorah - I wonder

RE: Rap/Hip-Hop Thread
Roosh's God post led me in an unusual direction.

Reading through that post has me thinking of this song:

"A happy man is a happy everybody else in his life."

"Ladies if you want to make your man happy, think about what makes you happy and do exactly the opposite."

"Hey how you doin' and I hope you know that I'm an upgrade for your stupid daughter." - Patrice O'Neal

RIP Nipsey Hustle

David took his men with him and went out and killed two hundred Philistines and brought back their foreskins. They counted out the full number to the king so that David might become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage. 1 Samuel 18:27

Tragic but also another win for my Theory of Face and Neck Ink: neck and face tattoos are excellent predictors of an early death.

Regarding Nipsey Hussle:

Quote:Rapper Meek Mill wrote: "Broke me.... we really fighting for our lives against our own kind and really have to take risk and match the level of hatred that we are born in.. I’m tired... prayers for my brother and his family."

Suspect is a black guy. I was reading the story this morning waiting for the fake news angle (e.g. some sort of Jussie Smollett backlash). This story will evaporate unless it can be contorted into the narrative.

I understand Nipsey was a Crip. As they say, “blood in blood out.” Somehow I imagine he was still supporting his alma matter, despite the window dressing of providing charitable outlets as an alternative to gangs. These hip hop stars with past connections to gangs are probably walking targets, especially if they don’t provide the right tribute to their gang.

I’m a white dude with no real understanding of rap, so these are just my thoughts from the bathroom this morning.

The theory of neck tattoos is valid because lots of gang bangers have them. Theory probably holds even more true for face tattoos. Wonder how many dudes with teardrop tattoos by their eyes met an early grave.

RIP to Nip. The guy channeled an old, classic energy that we used to get in the form of legendary California rappers such as Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg (back when he was in his prime).

Who listens to Drugrixh Hect (or RX Hect)? His mixtape Hector Vol. 1 is really a work of art and I've been playing it for a while now.

My favorites -

Maine and Canadian lobsters are the same animal. Prove me wrong.
