Even our ancient ancestors knew whose voices were more important to listen to.

There is an ancient, over 5000 year old, (meaning even older than the Egyptian pyramids of Giza) temple called "Hypogeum of Hal-Saflieni" on the island of Malta which apparently has rooms which were deliberately built in such a way that you can only hear male voices speaking out loud.

I usually prefer listening to female voices - assuming they are pleasant of course, both for speaking and music. In fact a gentle female voice can be a fairly major turn-on for me.
Though for coversation I'm likely to remember at most 20% (goes way up to maybe an admirable 30% if I'm having a conversation with a guy - alright, so I just have a plain bad memory for details in general) and as far as the music goes I generally don't pay much attention to lyrics (in which case most of the music I casually enjoy would probably make me bang my head against a wall) but just the voice and the music.

I've read studies about this in the past. Completely accurate from my experience.

I make sure my girlfriend writes everything on the kitchen calendar because I never listen when she talks.

This is the worst part about working with women. I have learned that I must control every conversation with them, including prompts about what to talk about and when to stop talking so there's not so much filler in their words. I am grateful that I work in a small business with no HR department and that my skills relative to others here make me too hard to replace.

I haven't heard it mentioned yet, but doesn't it seem likely that the insane rise in vocal fry among women is an unconscious attempt to mimic the the resonance and gravity of the male voice?

I can only sit back, relax, and hear a girl talk uninterrupted if one (or both) of the following scenarios happen:


1. She has a really sexy foreign accent when speaking english

and/or
