RE: Fomalhaut's 100 Approaches
Well -- I'm still hungover as I write this, but I figure I should jot it down before my memory of last night slips away. Admittedly, said memories aren't particularly that great to begin with.
After a lot of different bars and dinner with a group of friends we entered an after hours night club around 1 AM. Way too late, not to mention these places aren't as great as the nightclubs themselves but those close at 1~ around here -_-
#1: Enter dance floor, mess around there for a while, the ratio is about 9:1 guys : girls. The club in question has a VIP area that allows girls and bottle buyers to sit there, which doesn't particularly help. After I get over the approach anxiety, either from the alcohol and/or growing a pair, I open up a two set. I just lean over the VIP area gate and say hi. I immediately get hit with "this is my girlfriend" as the girl I'm talking to points to the other. I brush it off and instead use that opportunity to introduce myself to the girl's "girlfriend." I switch my focus to her, ask her if she works there, and manage to talk to her for a few minutes before the other friend pulls her away and they just start talking to each other. I get their attention back a few times by snapping my fingers in front of them and telling them that it's rude to ignore me, but eventually I leave the set by saying I'm going to go speak with my friends. I re-approach later in the night but their shields are even higher at that point, as with the alcohol flowing, late night, and horrible ratio, they've rejected more than a few approaches. They pretty much straight up ignore me, and just state "we're girlfriends", even when I snap to get their attention. Maybe the best English of the night, and it wasn't that great either, though admittedly I'm not sure I remember.
#2: Three set on the corner of the dance floor. Go up to a somewhat tall Japanese girl and say hi. Ask her if those are her friends with her, and introduce myself to them. There's a dude who's dating the other girl there and I talk to him briefly before switching my attention back to the first girl and getting her name. I speak briefly with her, though it's difficult given her English isn't that great. I tell her we're going to dance and lead her to the dance floor, dance for a while, and eventually get shots with her (I'm trying real hard not to get drunk here, but the entire night has been people buying rounds, shots, etc.) Bring her back to the dance floor and she wants to join her friends. We head over and things are going well, still dancing with her. At this point, a 35-40 year old Japanese dude comes in and starts talking with her and pretty much just being a major beta orbiter. He tries to dance with her but I just pull her over and edge him out as he continuously tries to rejoin the circle. What the fuck. Literally this dude is just standing around swaying for 10 minutes as he keeps trying to push in by me and go to the girl and I just lock him out with my shoulder. I eventually move her away from that group, dance with her, get slightly more physical, and things seem to go well. I do two potentially stupid things: 1) I tell her I think she's cute. 2) I tell her I want to go somewhere more private and I want to kiss her. No shit I think she's cute, why else would I be dancing with her and feeling her up, yeah? With #2, firstly, I should've just potentially led her, but that would've also been a problem as she probably wouldn't want to abandon her friends 20 minutes in of meeting a guy, and secondly, I'm not sure she could even hear anything, given the music/language barrier, but she probably recognized the word kiss, at which point ASD kicked in. I should've just turned her around and tried to go for a slow dance and transition into a kiss. She moved away just slightly and guess who shows up? Mr. Beta Orbiter Steal Yo Girl, who takes the opportunity to take her hand and pull her into the massive crowd of dudes. Fuck. He later loses her that night to a pretty well built Japanese dude in a snapback and tank top. Makes me just slightly happier. I see her at the end of the night as she's leaving with her friends, but she just throws me a bye and exits.
#3: Getting hazier and hazier on the memory. Talk to a girl sitting in a corner of the VIP lounge again by herself, though there's a bunch of beta orbiters right outside the VIP entrance who don't say a single fucking word to her or seem to know her but just stand there. Again, WTF. I eventually push past them and introduce myself to her. We actually get along decently well until her friend pops by and just snags her away. She says "I'm leaving, bye". I see her later that night but I think I'm on another set or a bit drunk, and she's on the move again anyways. This was probably the most receptive girl to me of the night, and if I weren't so fucking drunk at this point, I would've maybe locked it down better by at least snagging her LINE.
#4: Walk up to a girl sitting in the VIP area again. This time surrounded by like five dudes. I talk with her for a while, she tells me two of them are her brothers, I talk to all the guys. I think her English was also pretty solid and she was wearing amazing blue contacts. This doesn't really seem to go anywhere though as I've got the five dudes around me and she starts talking to them whenever she wants to exit my conversation. I don't remember this too well, honestly, but I saw her again, talked to her, and one of the dudes said she has a boyfriend.
#5: Girls from my classes that I've never really talked to. I'm just trying to make friends here as I'm not trying to shit where I eat. I talk with them briefly, they give me that "no we don't have classes together" thing until they realize oh yeah we do, I move onto a different set but I rejoin them later that night on the dance floor, introduce a few guys around me to them, and meet my wing for the night while in their group. There's a few more girls from my classes, one that's a solid looker and a little shy/reserved, I talk to her for a while. Get her Facebook, but I'm not particularly sure there's any motivation here besides having some friends to invite out. She's cute, but as mentioned above, I don't want in class awkwardness.
#6: My wing likes to get a lot of drinks. My memory is even worse. Open another two set, he seems to do pretty poorly with his, but she has better English than mine. I switch over to her, talk to her, but he really wants to go back to the dance floor and starts complaining about J-Girls being difficult. My attitude the entire night has been to just plow, even when they say "sorry no English" or try to make Xs with their arms, so I'm slightly annoyed, esp. as my conversation seemed to be going decent, but I roll with it and we head over.
#7: Opened some two set, I think, can barely remember what I said, or even the girl. Hell, I don't even know if I talked to anyone here. This might just be my imagination. Fucking alcohol.
#8: Open another girl, memory still horrible, she makes a lot of X's with her arms and says no English -- at this point I'm so sick of hearing no English, so I just say 'I don't care' and just hold eye contact. This works for a while, I look down at her lips and look back up, she gets flustered, but it doesn't really go anywhere and her friends are sitting right in the VIP. I think I tell her she's cute, she doesn't understand, I say it in Japanese, and I pretty much lose this one as she says thank you and slips behind the VIP. Why do I keep doing this, lol.
#9: Talk to a girl in leather clothes, real hot, she's not too interested, but I reapproach when she's not stuck in the VIP area. She again tries to dip, but for some reason feels my chest and is suddenly in for it, starting to feel me up. I'm thinking 'push/pull' here and decide to push her off me, but I'm a bit drunk. She goes slightly further than I'd like, and into the hands of a beta orbiter that steadies her and occupies her attention. I'm probably going to avoid doing that for the future -- slapping off her hands and then pulling her in would've worked better. At this point, a balding 35-40 Turkish dude comes up to me and tells me "HEY BE NICE." I'm pretty drunk at this point. I'm a bit of a dick to this guy and ask him why the fuck he feels the need to intervene in my conversations and if he's trying to start a fight. He backs off, his friends come and apologize about his behavior, and I feel like a total ass and go up to him to apologize. He just whines about it though and I just switch my attention elsewhere.
#10: Couple of Euro girls in another bar way later that me and my wing head to. Hot one can't speak English too well. And is apparently 15. I'm pretty much done for the night here anyways as it's like 6 AM.
Some things on my mind:
Telling a girl you think she's physically attractive - yay or nay? I'm very much leaning towards no. I did this multiple times in the night, at varying points of the conversation. The first was detailed in #2, and I feel like that was very much a stupid mistake. You're already dancing with a girl and flirting, at this point the attraction is very established and it's clear what my interests were -- no shit I think she's cute. Telling her she was cute didn't really do anything besides boost her own opinion of herself and make me sound a little beta. In my other interactions, it was generally dropped within a minute or two of the conversation, or sometimes slightly later, in the form of "I think you're cute/ anata wa kawaii desu / etc." A lot of times I just relied on this as the conversation couldn't really even happen to due the language barrier. I feel like this personally was not particularly useful either -- you've been talking to them for a minute or two, there's not really any reason to say you're interested in them. They're not stupid, they know, and this also risks the issue of putting them on the spot about whether they want to keep talking to you or not -- I don't remember too well, but I think I got a few 'thank you' and then attempt to leave (though the conversation was essentially dead from language barrier anyways).
Opening wise -- am I doing fine here? I'm not sure if it's even 'direct' or 'indirect' -- I literally just did this for most of the night:
Me: Hi.
Pause.
Girl: Hi.
Me: I don't think we've met / I'm Fomalhaut / etc. etc. (A lot of times here I'd have to repeat myself, because their English was bad or the music was too loud. Sometimes I'd even have to resort to a little Japanese.)
Girl: I'm blahblahblah. (I try to establish kino with a long handshake here, usually ask her to repeat her name, hold eye contact, the usual).
And then initiate conversation, usually by asking her what she does, if she works here, if she's a dancer, etc.
I've been entertaining switching to a direct opener like 'I thought you were cute and I wanted to come meet you'. Despite my lack of success with straightforward compliments, I feel like opening with them comes off as pretty ballsy rather than throwing it in the middle of a conversation later on which just comes off as pansy. At the same time, I feel this is more true with daygame -- the value it adds on top of my approach in nightgame is not particularly strong. They're almost the same thing, except the 'i thought you were cute and wanted to meet you' is implied in my 'hi'.
Anyways, that's it for last night. I met another dude in my social circle that's into PUA stuff and he daygames, so we might go out and do a bit of that later on. I'm thinking about switching over to that a little bit, though it's a bit scary to me as I've only approached at night. It feels so much more natural at night and it's much easier for me to just go up, say hi, and introduce myself. Potentially going out tonight, but I'm still hungover and it's 7 PM.
