The original was great because Brad Pitt and all the other actors had great chemistry on screen, plus the script was funny. I have more contempt for the male nerd fantasy of empowered women even more than the feminist fantasy. The movie is basically a bunch of little girls play acting as boys and expecting the boys to applaud because they want to rub one out over them.

I mean, look at the big announcement over casting a new Lara Croft. Hollywood baits me with a young, pretty woman sending out sexual cues, then is just going to berate me and call me a sexist dinosaur for daring to objectify her sexually.

As such, I refuse to take the fantasy bait. Fuck Tomb Raider, and fuck the weird Beta and Gamma men who have to live out their fantasies of male empowerment through women. I simply seek out prettier, feminine women who enjoy being girls in the real world to date, who are far hotter than the average actress Hollywood expects me to fawn over.

I still don't understand this common interpretation of the film.

How were the girls empowered? The action scenes were all very clear escapist fantasies with a very tenuous relationship to the real world.

In "real life", what did the girls actually accomplish? They stabbed Oscar Isaac and set a broom closet on fire, allowing a girl to make it out... except, did she really even get out? The bus driver being the same old man from the fantasy sequences suggests that, too, was unreal.

But suppose it was real, and she did escape. It's unclear if the other girls in the fantasy sequences participated in those events but in the real world, the girls were still almost completely powerless and only engineered the escape of a single girl by the rest sacrificing themselves. Who we thought was the main character was lobotomized to unresponsiveness, so she functionally died. Hardly empowering from where I'm sitting.

I have a feeling that this and the "Roadhouse" remake will be scrapped if Ghostbusters tanks. Looks like they're starting a new trend of redoing classic films recast with female leads to appeal to the social justice fanbase.

Reality check. Even a female Fortune 500 CEO can have her teeth curbstomped out of her skull but a lowly mail room intern if she pushes him past the point of no return. So why not take that premise of fake empowerment to it's full conclusion and determine that being an imaginary badass in a fantasy world is more empowering than being a fake one in real life?

Sexy girls doing men stuff was a concept created to mix two ideas men like, actions hero and sexy women, before, the concept was more simple, action hero and damsel in distress, this was a idea based on novels and books with the same idea, knight fights his way kill the dragon and save the princess.

Then studios started to mix bit by bit, Cat woman in the 60s started the trend of action woman in catsuits doing action stuff but she was still side character, then Charlies Angels pushed harder by eliminating the super hero theme and instead adding 3 young women working as private investigator.

Is a fantasy of what men want in a woman, is not that men want women who will go fighting hand-to-hand combat but is more about loyalty, Sucker Punch is heavily influenced on Anime, the core of the idea is a man having the loyalty of a woman or better several women ex: Charlie has complete loyalty from his Angels, if you watch the Anime section of Netflix and watch any show there you can see the same theme.

Men created fantasies just like women create theirs, if Snyder want to create a movies with sexy young women wearing lingerie and carrying guns and shooting zombies, killing a dragon, and defeating a giant Samurai monster then he should, just like women create 50 Shade Of Grey where a awkward young girls can make a billionaire go crazy for her.
