I recently purchased a used textbook from eBay for an engineering class I'm taking and I was trying to save money. It came from a used bookstore in the SF Bay area. Anyway, it arrived yesterday and I flipped through the pages to check on the condition. The funny thing is, I didn't really think about it when I bought it, but upon opening it I was thinking, "Hmmm, a used book from San Francisco... I really hope some faggot didn't own this book."

Well, sure enough, there was a piece of gay porn clipped from some magazine in between the pages.

And get this... the subject matter of the book: fluid mechanics.

I wonder if I should just get rid of the book or disinfect it somehow. Should I bother complaining to the seller? At least none of the pages seem stuck together.

I just thought this was kind of a funny story. I just goes to show you...prejudice and stereotypes exist for a reason. Yes, San Francisco is full of faggots.

What exactly do you think you're going to catch from a used textbook?

I'd definitely demand a full refund, not because of the content, but because they're supposed to verify the condition of the book (including stuff stuck in the book or writing on the pages, things like that).

Sure, it's not ideal, and in most cases it's either expensive or illegal, but you avoid these sort of situations doing that.

The reason this is bothersome is that gay men (some of them anyway) purposely do this to shock straight guys.

I first noticed this in college. In the Fine Arts Building where a lot of gay theater students hung out, they'd leave gay porno mags in the bathrooms. This went on enough that the straight students pretty much knew it was deliberate.

Doing things like this might have been an act of subversion for generations past when gays were forced to hide out. But with gay culture in our faces today 24/7 and rainbows all over Facebook, it's just an act of rudeness and immaturity.

Liberals who chuckle at this should look at it this way: Had it been a Hustler centerfold slipped into in a book a female student opened, it would be deemed "harassment" by school administrators. So the same should go for gay porn.

This is pretty gay but don't stop buying used books because of it. Hell, I could make my spare bedroom a full library with the amount of used books I've bought off amazon. If I walk into a bookstore I drop 100 bucks on 4-6 books. With shipping I drop about 6 bucks per book on amazon. I save every book I want to read to my wishlist and then buy 10 or so at a time. Once I start running out of books I rinse and repeat.

Now that I think about it, yeah, this was a deliberate a gay troll job and not accidental.

I've been using a downloaded .pdf for the textbook so far, but I really don't like reading those things for extended periods of time.

The new textbooks are $170, which is a total ripoff.

Yea, I don't get the guys saying you should buy new. I'm not paying $150 for a Calculus book just because the publisher decided to pump out the umpteenth-edition of it where all they did is re-shuffle the practice problems. GTFO with that nonsense. Thank Christ for Amazon and Half.com
