The original trilogy was so damn good because it told a story. I can't recall any story being told in any of the other movies.

If you ever heard of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, it is a theory that describes how people need basic satisfaction from things like food and sleep before they benefit from things like moral satisfaction or virtuous satisfaction.

If you were to draw up a hierarchy of needs pyramid for Star Wars, you will have a legion of fanboys defending what is actually a lower, base portion of the pyramid (like food and sleep) while never acknowledging the higher aspects (like morality or virtue). Did it have recognizable characters? Yes. Did it have action? Yes. Did it have great motion picture visual cinematics? Yes. Great, we got three stages up the pyramid.

Fanboys don't actually touch the higher, more enlightened aspects. Star Wars was an homage to serial movies. That's a rung up that no other Star Wars can compete with. Star Wars was the ultimate farm boy fantasy, farm boy moves to the city and becomes international, Luke moves from the desert backwater and squares off against the empire. He becomes more powerful in the city, not lost in the crowd. That a cohesive story that gives it another rung up on the enlightenment pyramid.

And perhaps the greatest aspect, the top of the pyramid, it's a father-son story. Touching on the most profound part of being father-son. What part? I would describe it as the one moment in the life of a father and son relationship in which the father accepts the son's ideas, i.e. allows the son to set "frame", allows his own ideas to go the wayside in favor of his son's, a spiritual "passing the torch" so to speak. Vader died not saying "I'm sorry" or "The empire is wrong and I repent", but simply saying to Luke "you were right." The story of cracking through the shell of a headstrong father.

TLJ has just won 3 Saturn Awards (not sure of relevance) for Acting, Screenplay and Editing. I've no quibbles for Hamill, who did very well with what he was given (somehow, this makes Lukes character butchery all the more unforgivable).

Honestly, I was fully prepared to give the film another shot. I would have loved to have been wrong about my damning verdict on it's cinema outing. I recently saw some Hollywood movies from the 1970s that did not have Charles Bronson in it. They were the Last Jedi kind of cultural marxist crap that were done by black-clad so-called intellectuals who were all nihilist and commie because it was chic. Big budgets, big great actors and they were shit. No wonder that French cinema dominated the world from the 1960s to 70s - they offered both deep movies, action as well as comedy.

It was Lucas and Spielberg and Ridley Scott who recreated movies made for the people, for the millennia that had real emotion in it, some were positive, some were dark, but all were entertaining. All the shitty misanthropic West- and White Christianity hating philosophers put their drivel indirectly in the movies due to influencing the creators. And Hollywood produced bomb after high-budget bomb until the studios returned to a pro-life formula. Heaven's Gate was such a movie of terrible dire communist story-telling.

Blah, blah, blah. You know what gives the Empire its gravitas and its dignity? Because they got four competent actors who show us the Empire's face:

- Peter Cushing (as Grand Moff Tarkin)
- Kenneth Colley (as Captain Admiral Piett)
- Julian Glover (as General Veers. Glover would go on to be villain protagonist against James Bond and Indiana Jones in later films)
- Michael Pennington (as Moff Jerjerrod, in ROTJ. Fun fact, Alan Rickman auditioned for the part as well, and sounds like he was going to basically play the character in Hans Gruber or Severus Snape mode, which is why he wasn't successful.)

The common elements are, obviously that they're all English and therefore inherently terrifying, but they're all decades older and decades more experienced as actors than the man-children we got in Kylo Ren and General Hux. Kenneth Colley had been acting for 20 years before they got him in as Admiral Piett. Fucking Julian Glover had won Olivier awards, i.e. theatre acting awards, and was from the Royal Shakespeare Company, acting since the 1950s. Even fall guy Admiral Ozzel (played by Michael Sheard) was a long-experienced actor who wound up playing Adolf Hitler about 5 times through his career.

These men basically played the evil version of the British Navy. And they acted fucking rings round the mob we got in the The Farce Awakens and The Last Shitpie. You could actually believe in these guys as competent military men, and that fact alone was enough to establish Vader's menace - because they looked terrified of him. They didn't need to tell people they were powerful by screaming at them, they projected it. There's a couple of solid Game principles to be found in how these guys worked their magic.

Adam Driver himself isn't such a bad actor, but they made him into this Emo moron who doubts his evil, who trashes a console in a fucking fit. He has been at war and constant killing for 15 years and this is the result.

So no - this is deliberate and guys like Peter Cushing would never have gotten the job.

+ all men are toxic and weak, need just to learn to be more feminine (that includes the bad guys who are sometimes bad because they have not learned to weep like a glorious woman)

+ women love the science and are instantly good with it (Rey being good as an engineer on the Falcon)

+ homosexuality is always an option - Finn and Poe had mor "chemistry" than Rey did with anyone - that is also no coincidence
+ if you show any hetero-romance, then it has to be across races - that is also a SJW trope

+ slavery is bad, because that is a knee-jerk reaction to think badly of the West - most people are not aware of any other history or that the West ended it worldwide
