Did anyone here got plastic surgery?

Were you satisfied with the results?

How did you go about the whole process (selecting surgeon, selecting procedure, etc.)?


Looking for an input from guys who had work done or planning it, not looking to debate whether guys should get plastic surgery or not.

I would never put myself through the risks of a major operation for pure vanity purposes.

I think the answer to OP is "no, guys who come here aren't really the plastic surgery doing type". Plastic surgery themed forums are probably a better bet for advice, if that's truly what you want to do and have exhausted everything else. All I know about the topic is that Korea seems to have as many plastic surgeons as dentists.

What are you looking to have done?

If you're thinking about getting a vanity procedure such as a facelift or nose job, I think this forum isn't the place to seek advice. There are better things a man can spend his money on.

If you're thinking of doing something gay like liposuction or pec implants, don't do it and go straight to the fitness forum.

If you need to correct an existing abnormality/defect, such as guys who lose a ton of weight and are left with excess skin, absolutely go for it.

I had three (relatively big) moles removed from my face. Not sure if you consider it plastic surgery, but it was purely for cosmetic reasons.

Used a newer technique where the doctor literally burned them off my face. The "operation" took about 15min and I had to use cream for about 2-3 months afterwards. It left a small scar, but not very noticable.

Extremely happy with the results.

If I remember correctly, it was like $500 for alle three moles including creams and whatnot.

There are more reasons to do procedures other than vanity. I don't mind looking at myself in the mirror, but I do know that other people judge me based on appearance. I have a facial deformity and correcting it can bring me up by 1-2 points. 1-2 points is a big difference in real life and spending 10k for that kind of improvement is worth it for me.

I recently had gynecomastia (man boob) surgery where the surgeon cut out the glandular tissue from my tits. It cost a lot of money, but I'm so glad I had it done. It sucks having boobs when you're quite lean, especially knowing that no amount of diet or exercise will change it. Even though I'm still healing, I am so much more confident as a man. I might write a data sheet about it when I'm fully healed.

Do hours and hours and hours of research. Then when you're finished, do some more. Realself.com is a good start - there you can see reviews of surgeons and lots of before and after photos. Join a forum that specializes in the procedure you want. Know exactly what the surgery entails, the risks and realisitic outcomes. Understand that there may be downtime away from work. Don't skimp on money - you want it done right the first time, so get the best surgeon you can afford. Visit several different surgeons and go with the one you feel best with - the best surgeons won't charge for a consultation.

My advice? Search for specialized forums so you can see RESULTS from people with SIMILAR problems. I don't care if the doctor graduated from Harvard. Look for the doctors with best results and more cases as possible. If you have to travel abroad, go for it. Don't be cheap. Price is the LAST thing you want to look for.

I don't condone anything a person can do to improve. Be it appearance. The most important thing is to NOT LOOK ARTIFICIAL. A bad hair transplant look worse than having no hair. It reeks insecurity.

I've lost weight, and need to lose more. When I reach my goal, I'm going to have a tummy tuck. I've seen others who have had it done, in person, and in pictures. The scar is somewhat unsightly, but it fades a lot after the 2nd or 3rd year.

The results aren't as good as if I'd stayed fit from when I was young, and they won't make me look like a buff young man, but they are a significant improvement. As someone else up thread said, correcting loose skin after weight loss is a clear case where plastic surgery is worth it. I'd say the examples with the receded chins above are also good examples.

This is definitely a case where YMMV, but I disagree with anyone who dismisses plastic surgery outright.

My dad is one of the toughest guys I know. He developed these huge bags under his eyes in his mid 40s. This caused him to look much older and tired than he really was, and detracted from the rest of his face and features. He wasn't happy with the way he looked and couldn't do much about it. Eventually he opted for a surgery to remove the bags. Had the nastiest bandaged, black eyes for months, and then viola, he looked 10 years younger. I wouldn't be so quick to discount all forms of surgery.

OK, I'll be sure to put my face under the knife/power tools when I'm 40 to keep Mrs Phoenix pleased. Sounds like normal behaviour. It's not like traditional wives respect their husbands for things other than the tautness of their facial skin or anything.

The guy in the pic didn't look bad before or after.

The girls were a write off.

Luckily looks are more important for women than men.

Loose skin on people that lose a lot of weight is simply gross, I almost think you are better off staying fat.

I work in the field sort of, but people get work done to fix facial proportions which is not a bad thing as I see and do it all time women men of all ages!

Anyone ever had Otoplasty work done (Ear pinning, shaping, reduction etc)? I have big ears which look pretty damn huge front on, especially with the short hair styles that suit me. I recently tried Otostick which is a temporary non-surgical way to pin ears back but wasn't to happy with the results because it just pins the ears back, when my real problem is the ears being larger than normal rather than the ears sticking out. Those things have to be re-applied every 3 days as well and are a bitch to get right- must have wasted about half the pack trying to get the stick ons in the right position. Anyway, there's a lot of excess cartilage on the top and bottom of the ear that looks like it would be fairly easy to reduce.

It's not really a vanity issue as other than my ears, I'm completely happy with my appearance. I'm just sick of one feature bringing my whole look down. Go for it or not?
