Tinder--when/how receal identity
Reveal, not receal--couldn't seem to edit subject-line.

Not the biggest problem but I am stumped and want to draw on Forum knowledge.

So, I am a professor. This hinders my Tinder game b/c I don't want my incredibly gossipy students seeing me online. And I teach some large classes. So, I hinder myself by not putting up any photos. Still get some matches. Had a drinks date set up tonight with a 6.5 who I had emailed a couple of photos to. Late afternoon, she asked for my "real" name. I wasn't sure what to do--tell her, or keep alias I had used on Tinder/via e-mailing photos. I was worried the latter would seem deceptive bc I had told her where/what I taught (mistake?) so if she looked at faculty profiles she would not see my alias. So I told her my real name. She cancelled Tinder match and went ghost via email.

What's the best way to handle this? Obviously want to move ASAP to real-life meet-up but girls seem weird about identity?

Maybe just stick to traditional day/night game given concerns about posting photos? But if anyone has thoughts about how I could still leverage Tinder let me know.

Stick with the alias and dont mention it.

Your match cancelled not because she found out who you were, but because of how you framed the whole thing. You revealed a weakness(having to use an alias) and it turned her off.

I have used fake names on tinder before, and I used to explain about it, and accepted the losses it caused. Then I realised I was wasting my time doing that, and gamed on as usual, never mentioned the alias and had success.

I've also had that, I try and keep the fake name going as long as possible. If/when I tell them real name its only now after sealed the deal.

Use a middle name or a name that could reasonably be construed as normal for you to use. Go by William? Tinder should say Bill. Name is Jason? Go by Jay.

Misspelled middle name? Perfect. Never admit that it's not your real name until she's staring at your ID.

Use real photos that obscure your face. I too work in a relatively medium profile position locally, so I've used photos of me diving (too far to identify me), hiking shirtless (back facing camera) or snowboarding (goggles hide face). Then use Snapchat for showing face (literally). Shouldn't be emailing Tinder bitches, phone numbers only

Why did she ask for your real name? Your OP was confusing, since Tinder doesn't have 'user names' but goes off of your Facebook account. Presumably you would be using your real name (in your date's eyes).

Is there a detail we're missing? (smack on face) Please tell me you didn't tell her you're using an alias. That sorta defeats the purpose.

It's like she just met the worst secret agent of all time.

Find pictures of a guy who looks a lot like you and use him instead. Plausible deniability in case it comes up at school. Send a real picture of yourself after you switch to texting.

Great idea--will do!

Searching now--totally doable--will have my "long lost brother" pic up by this evening!

Never admit your true identity and make sure photos you find don't image search back to the real owner of the photo. Same with using obscured or altered photos. Id even try to get a burner so you don't have to give them a more permanent cell number. When asked about having two phones say one is from work.
