RE: Rousey Vs Mayweather
I agree with TK, Holyfield made an efficient punch and didn't seem to really want to blast it.

As far as the video with the strongman, I am not sure how experienced his opponent was. I am not all saying I would have tried or am putting down that guy's effort. I imagine taking shots from the strongman would drain and disorient. But he also didn't catch or slip any of the strongman's shots. But he landed enough to make the strongman step back and reconsider.

But the strongman turned away when he was getting hit. An experienced boxer would have probably punished him when the head turned.

It has taken me a while to learn to keep my eyes on my opponent while still getting hit. But if you can't see what he is doing, you are in a dangerous place.

Just my 1 year of boxing opinion.

I wasn't knocking Holyfield, I was bigging him up. Maybe I should have phrased it better. I used the video as an example of people hitting hard, but completely telegraphing their punches, which would see them get beaten up badly by someone trained. I.E Holyfield would just move out the way and hit them with that quick shot. Then hitting them with about 10 more!

I'm sure that strongman would hit hard on that machine, but it doesn't mean he would beat the larger, high-level professional boxers. As others have said.

Yeah, none of those other guys would have come away from that thinking they would actually beat Evander in a fight, or even in a punch competition. It's just a bit of fun. But I do wonder why The Rock didn't have a go.

I forgot to watch that vid. After seeing it it is obvious the Strongman has incredible power. He is waaay toooo raw though. He has not learned how to punch in gloves correctly at all. If this was barefisted, it would have been over in seconds. When wearing gloves you have to relearn fighting all over again. Observe a traditional karateka used to barefisted competition go mainstream pro and he just looks uncomfortable as hell.

They did not teach him good footwork or anything. He looked like one of my white belts if I ever let them spar. I usually didn't. He was using his arms and not his body to punch. That's why I said these kinds of guys with a month or more of solid training would be super nasty.

You know what, we should train one of these guys in MMA and teach him to keg toss the opponent until they tap out or get KOed. Laugh

I am quite surprised with some kind of fascination of strongman's strength being useful in real fight and on top of it against some skilled opponents showed here. Especially that high level poster like TravelerKai is pushing it.

There is someone like Mariusz Pudziankowski, probably one of the most decorated strongman's in recent history. In 2009 he made a transition to MMA and quickly found out that his conditioning is nowhere near enough to survive more than 1 minute and his strongman's strength is quite useless, especially after opponents survive his haymakers in 1st minute.

His overall record looks good, but 5 years later he still is fighting mostly poor opponents. And some of his wins in Poland were highly controversial (especially one against Kawaguchi and one against Thompson). He made some progress, but most important fact was that he lost significan amount of weight (around 25-35 kg, big part of it had to be muscle mass too).

I think when you take rules into account that is one thing, but as has been said, bare fisted in a bar, the sheer physicality of these guys would be hard to overcome. MMA gloves limit the ability to grip, one of a strongman's primary assets. These guys are literally strong enough just to twist most human necks in a circle till they break, or grab a forearm and snap it in two. Gloves, a referee, and rules create an environment that favours a fighter over the strongman. For all that gets said about MMA being close to 'da streetz', the reality is that it is a very very long way from an anything goes matchup, and many of the rules neutralise the very real areas these monstrous strongmen excel in, that are game changers in a real situation, when all that matters is winning by any means.

RE: Rousey Vs Mayweather
I think we are getting a bit over zealous here. Let's not fall in love with size and translate it to power. Fighting is a technique and the ability to deliver a hard punch is the development of that fast twitch punch (or kick).

Also, a lot of strong muscle is not efficient regarding oxygen utilisation as big fellas tend to get gassed more quickly.

Definitely there is an advantage at a certain weight which is why fighters are ranked accordingly but we can't say IF so and so big man learnt how to do so. If that was the case, the best fighters in the world would be the biggest (which they are not).

Yeah big guys get super gassed early in fights because large muscles consume way more oxygen in order to operate. It's better for them to be more defensive style wise than highly aggressive. If offensive linemen in football can muster enough cardio, most of them can too. There is a limit though, I just don't know what it is.

There is that, but I also think we have to take into account the greater effect of being hit by bigger men. I don't think it is proportionate, as in, a heavyweight being hit by a heavyweight is not the same as a lightweight being hit by a lightweight. Although there may be some variation in size and thickness of skull, neck musculature, etc, being hit repeatedly at heavyweight, as a heavyweight, is far more draining than taking the same number of shots at a lighter weight. So yes, heavyweights gas quicker, but a large part of that in my view is that punishment mounts up much quicker in the higher weightclasses than it does in the lower ones, or at least that has been my experience, boxing between light welter and heavyweight over the years.

I would say I hit peak physical fitness as a heavyweight, and still ended up gassing quicker than I did as a less fit fighter at lower weights. My head and brain protection was the same size/density at middleweight as it was at heavyweight.

Fresh crap from today:

Quote:"I would last in the ring with Ronda Rousey as long as she wanted me to last. I wanted to introduce myself to her at the ESPYs but didn't want her to kick my butt."
Lebron James.

Quote:“I certainly would not like to end up in a tie-up with Miss Rousey,” McGregor told SINow. “I remember one time when I’d seen her and I greeted her and said 'What’s up champ' and we embraced. And I swear on my life her back muscles were the most solidest (sic) back muscles I’d ever felt in my life.

I thought if this lady was to get a hold of me she would throw me on my head in literally one second flat. So I would not like to engage in a clinch fight with Ronda.”

Yawn. Why would Floyd take this fight?

They are in two different leagues. Women fighting is a side-show and cannot be taken seriously.

He has already dissed UFC, he looks down on it.

Was watching some UFC 190 (not watching the PPV) but plenty of Rousey commercials. Anyone find her attractive? Personally, I don't but some of the ads hint that she is so amazeballs. Able to fight and then look pretty. I don't appreciate being told what beauty is.

Everyone is sucking on Rousey's phantom dick because she fulfills every warrior woman Hollywood fantasy that the mainstream has. She's amazing for UFC marketing because she doesn't outright look like a man either. Aside from the empowered womyn crowd they can really get the thirsty simps on board the hype train too.

Other athletes don't want to be on the wrong side of popular opinion so they also pump her up.

The biggest bullshit i've heard so far is the GOAT term thrown around a lot and "pound per pound toughest fighter man or woman."

Listen to this pussy talking to Ronda like she's the Terminator.

A. Through it all, he's setting her up and not even trying to avoid a throw.

B. Notice at 4:05 he almost throws her, then the camera quickly cuts away so we can't see how easy it was for a weak man to throw her around.

I can't believe there are guys here who root for her. They should just straight up be banned. If there was ever something more gay or feminist I couldn't describe it. Rooting for Ronda Rousey or wanting her to do well is the gayest, most feminist thing you could possibly do as a man.

Also, just to make it clear, Ronda is like a 6.5/10 WB. That is the only thing that matters. Nothing else about her accomplishments mean a god damn thing except she is moderately attractive and sort of worthy of a bang.

I'm sorry, she's still got a decent waist-hip ratio which means I would ejaculate in her vagina.

Like I said though that is her only value as a person on planet earth, not her thousands of hours spent learning how to fight or anything else. Because she is a woman, her value is based upon her looks and honestly my girlfriend is a lot hotter.
