You don't have to be super paranoid about these guys, they're pretty chill all together, unless you're at a biker show and there's different clicks.

I also grew up with 2 gang bangers in my neighborhood, those fools knew how to step, maddog, and have a "don't fuck with me" attitude. They also taught me some game and how to talk to girls.

It's better to be intimidating at first then friendly.

I notice the last few girls I met were intimidated by me and super shy, until I start making sexual jokes or tell a story of mine.

Especially if the guy with the knife knows how to use it.

As for his 9/11 analogy, he's only looking at the final jet when the passengers already got word of the suicidal attacks on the twin towers and knew their fate was sealed if they didn't do something. What happened in the first three planes was analogous to what happened on this metro train. The passengers thought that if they didn't interfere they'd be spared.

Indeed, the first thing they trained us in jiu jitsu knife training was to run if someone is threatening you with a knife. If you try to engage someone with a knife, you will get stabbed. If I had a gun in this case, I doubt I would try to shoot the attacker while he is stabbing someone, it's too easy to shoot the guy he is stabbing.

I'd call police, and tell them I am on a train witnessing a man get stabbed to death, and tell them which car I am on, see if they can stop the train, not sure what else to be honest.

For those of you who think it is straightforward to dis-arm someone with a knife, give a friend a marker, tell them to try and stab you with it, and see if you can take it without getting marker-ink on you. I, personally, would not engage even a small woman with a knife (unless she was threatening me or a loved one), no matter how many male friends I have with me helping.

A friend of mine has studied knife fight for two years. His words to me?

Agreed. Not too long ago I would have disagreed, and I do still believe that in a healthy society men should go to the rescue of a stranger irrespective of the potential harm to themselves. I also believe that a strong, determined, trained man, who recognises the various kill zones on another human can be effective with a sturdy pen, or blunt object.

The reality is though that now I will not go to the rescue of any man who is voluntarily weak. I would still go to the rescue of the elderly, the infirm, women (or rather the ones who appear to be making a valid contribution to society by their appearance) and children. I will not risk my life for a man of fighting age who has willingly made himself a victim by being mentally and physically weak. A man of fighting age who has given himself the opportunity to survive by training, who is outnumbered, outmatched or out weaponed, I will lend a hand to.

The important things that everyone here should recognise are:

1. These things do happen, you should always be carrying some kind of equaliser, even if it is just a solid pen.

2. You need to decide before the event who you will help/risk your life for, and what consequences you are willing to suffer for your actions. Indecision and hesitancy in the few moments of an actual live event may get you killed, or cause someone innocent (according to your own definition) to lose their life.

3. If you decide there are circumstances in which you will try to intervene, you owe it to yourself and those depending on you to train like a madman, to ensure that if such a moment comes, you are able to be effective.

4. You really must reconcile yourself IN ADVANCE to the potential physical, mental, and legal consequences of your actions, so that you can act without hesitancy. Your own psychological preparation is key to effective performance under pressure.

Precisely, but we don't live in a healthy society. If it was someone I loved, or someone who looks like they actually contribute to society or they're defenseless then yeah, try to fuck the guy up if you can.

This article reminds me of that event a while back where this ship was sinking and all the Western guys pushed everyone out of the way to get to the lifeboats first.

I see barfights happen all the time where I live and usually the nearest five guys will step in to break up a fight, but the worst weapon I've seen used is a bottle.

As far as equalizers, I've been looking to EDC an expandable baton or a "yawara stick". Yet another good reason to lift as far as I'm concerned. Learning two or three basic strikes, and then drilling them over and over on a punching bag would not be a bad idea. I want to take boxing, but don't have the resources at the moment.

Nothing obligates me to put my life in jeopardy for anyone else. I'll do it for family, natural and otherwise. I'm not going to do it for some random guy in DC dressed like a douche who, statistically speaking, has probably spent the past several years demonizing me.
