Really the USA wimminz won on July 5th and the stands were packed with red white and blue face painted and outfitted fans yet women's US World Cup soccer team are ashamed to show they are Americans from the USA??? WTF is up with that? As a veteran I was more than disappointed when I saw NO USA shoulder flag, NO visible USA logo and a White and Black uniform with lime green sox - what Marxist Feminist SJW LGBTQ designer designed these hate america first uniforms - we still have men dying fighting ISIS for the Red White and Blue United States of American flag and these you go gurl feminists "role models" are ashamed to wear their countries colors or logos. I will never watch or financially support anything to do with US women's soccer again as long as I live.

Played Lacrosse in University. The men's were the American version of lacrosse and the girls had the British system.

When there came a chance to play them I asked what the rules were;

- No contact
- No running with the ball
- No aggressive play

I just went home and left them to their pathetic little scrimmage.

The fact that the USA team won the women's world cup (again) is proof that American women have got it made. Soccer is a minnow sport compared to baseball/football/basketball and even hockey. Our men's national team has taken decades just to get to a level where they can reliably qualify for WCs and field a respectable team that doesn't get their asses whipped in group play. Meanwhile, our women's team have won another Cup while many of these other countries that are far more super passionate about soccer (Mexico, for example) have terrible women's squads.

Like most Americans 30+, I grew up playing baseball, Basketball and football(American). I had no interest in playing or watching Soccer. I did not respect soccer as a sport and thought it was silly. I only began learning about soccer when my now 13 year old daughter expressed interest in playing back when she was 6. She plays for a top ranking travel team in my state. When I watch boys the same age as my daughter play, it's like night and day. The boys are much faster, more aggressive and better at tactics and skill. I now have loads of respect for the sport and think that soccer players are some of the best conditioned athletes in the world.

You can't compare apples and oranges and you can't compare men and women.

We scored 5 goals in the first 20 or so minutes, and started taking players off the field. We won 10-0, ending the match playing 8 on 11, with the 8th player being a girl we subbed in.

Some of these girls were literally future Olympic candidates in soccer and other sports--and for us, dribbling, running, and passing around them wasn't much more challenging than doing so around those orange training cones.

I played on a house league team when I was 13, and at one practice we scrimmaged the girl's rep team who were U-15. Our team, who included two guys who could barely run because they were so overweight and were on the team because their parents wanted them to lose some pounds, beat them 8-1.

Besides the score, the only other thing I remember from it was slide tackling one of their strikers, not that hard, but solidly, like I would for any opposition striker I'd play against. In my mind, they were the opposition, and it was my job to stop them from scoring, which I did. I remember everyone being aghast by what I had done. While I put the player down, I got the ball and it was as clean as you'd like. I didn't understand at the time why there seemed to be different rules.

I didn't watch any of the WWC. If I did, I'm pretty sure I could have seen every game broadcast in English. Meanwhile, I have to watch Costa Rica v. Jamaica (Gold Cup) in Spanish because Fox isn't showing it. I'm not complaining, the game is more exciting in Spanish. Just sayin'...

This thread reminded me of a volleyball conversation I had with my dad and cousin (female volleyball player) awhile back. I hypothesized if you took the superstars and superfreak athletes of the NBA (James, Anthony Davis, etc.) and had them lineup against the US women's volleyball team who would win?

My dad thought based on technique, serving and shit like that, that the women would win. I was calling bullshit, while picturing all 7 feet of D'Andre Jordan just smashing a spike into the face of some hopeless little girl. I would pay good money for front row VIP to watch that shit.

FWIW my cousin thought NBA players would win.

Give the basketball players some pro level training and a month of playing and they'd absolutely crush the girls indoor or on the sand.

I failed to mention, in our discussion the NBA guys would get around 2 weeks to practice and receive training from good coaches. I don't know a lot about volleyball, but it seems the skillsets between the 2 sports have enough carry over where basketball players could adapt reasonably quickly.

Its a fun hypothetical, trying to compile the best team that covers all the intricacies on the volleyball court.

The difference in height and reach alone would make the strategy for the male team to put two or three near the net. Everything that's not super high in the air is just getting spiked down mercilessly.

However, all I know about women's volleyball is from looking at pictures so I could be wrong.

NBA Players are like Tennis, Baseball and some Football Players (not purely strength & speed based ones like Quarterbacks) - they are all born with an immense technical talent.

I witnessed once in my life what that means as I played tennis with a teenage boy who just left a pro team in soccer in Europe. He lost interest despite being offered a contract. I have been playing tennis for years back then - sometimes even for hours a day honing my skills. He had never played tennis before in his life.

I showed him the basic techniques and then we went to play. In about 20 minutes he was hitting the ball hard and fast back without much of a technique. After 50 minutes he was basically about as good as me. The reason for this was his inborn genetic level of technical control that all pro soccer players must have. It's essentially something that few in real life have. Despite lack in technique he simply controlled the ball x-times better.

There are some sports where men need more fitness/strength than technical control, but NBA is not one of them.

So coupled with the ability to jump several feet higher, smash x-times harder and be more agile - I think that the NBA players would literally smash the women to the ground. If the men put their strength into it the girls might get actually hurt - broken fingers, arms or even noses.

Now - at chess - they could win that. US female chess team against NBA players - they would likely slaughter them on that front - heh.

Team NBA would have Chase Budinger, who was allegedly the #1 volleyball player in the nation coming out of high school his year (2006), so that should instantly give Team NBA the best player on the court.

You still need five more players.

So this exercise depends on how many "closet" volleyball players there are in the NBA. If there are five guys who have even half of Budinger's experience, Team NBA will crush the women's volleyball players.

However, I haven't heard of other NBA players with volleyball-playing histories. So let's say it's five NBA players that are volleyball novices.

Maybe you pick-up two more big men and three point guards, to mitigate the defensive disadvantage volleyball-unfamiliar big men would create in the back-row. Even point guards in the NBA, 6'0"-6'3" or so, will be only an inch on average shorter than the non-setter, non-libero US Women's volleyball players, and will have much higher vertical leaps. So hence you might want three point guards here to be as formidable as possible for back row defense, while still providing front rows that will have much greater effective size (height plus vertical leap) than the Women's Volleyball team has ever contended with.

Serving, defense, and setting would be huge problems for Team NBA, even with a few weeks of practice.

Any serve coming from Team NBA, that's not from Budinger, will be an easy tee-up for the women to attack. A few weeks is not enough time to develop a serve that could threaten top-level women's players.

Big men with no prior volleyball experience will be insta-death in the back-row. Even point guards, with their superior hand-eye coordination than big men, will have a lot of trouble trying to return jump-serves or spikes, even from women.

The women would likely attack more from the back-row, mitigating Team NBA's ability to use their size and leaping ability to block at the net, and make Team NBA play back-row defense. Another thing the women would do to mitigate Team NBA's advantages and exploit their weaknesses is deploy an array of dinks to avoid Team NBA's blockers and make Team NBA scramble and hit the floor to try and recover the ball.

You can only replace one person in the back row with the libero, and I doubt there's anyone in the NBA who can even play Women's-level libero. The women will earn a lot of free points from the NBA players duffing service returns alone.

Even if on any particular exchange Team NBA is able to get reasonable control on the first touch, setting is going to be an issue, taking away the effectiveness of Budinger and any other players on the attack. Many attacking opportunities will be lost with an inexperienced setter--wasting Budinger's talents, and the rest of Team NBA's height and leaping ability.

In short, Budinger and five NBA guys with volleyball experience: Landslide victory after a few weeks of practice. Lack of glaring flaws would allow Team NBA to exploit their size and athletic advantage.

Budinger and five NBA guys who are volleyball novices: Too many weaknesses that would prevent them from exercising their advantages; the skill level of the women would be too much to overcome. A decisive loss still after a few weeks of practice.

An elite high school boys volleyball team should curb-stomp both the Budinger + NBA Novices team, as well as the Women's national team.
