The Economics of Sex
A little over a year ago, the Austin Institute put out a video discussing the changing dating market from an economics perspective.

They take a stab at explaining what has caused more promiscuity in society the last 50 or so years and they land on the idea of a technological shock that changed the market. There are probably more factors at play than just that but it's an interesting thought.

I'm sure there are pieces of the video that people will find both agreeable and disagreeable but I think it makes for a good discussion.

In a nutshell, they tell us that since men can get short term sex relatively easy from women who became sluttier once the technological shock happened, this caused all or most women to also become sluttier in effort to keep the attention of the men they want. Prices dropped. And so did panties. Although they didn't put it quite so eloquently as I just did.

They say that men can ride this lifestyle well into their 30's and 40's and then call the shots when it comes to marriage selection. I.e., marry a 20-something who hasn't slept with scores of dudes. (I'm still hopeful that these types of girls will be around 20 years from now but we'll see).

The narration goes back and forth between a male and female. The male has a tone that seems pleased with the data being presented while the female sounds a little pissy throughout. Towards the end, the female proposes that women should "collude" and withhold sex more in an effort to get men to stop indulging in Bachelor Life quite as much and settle down. She then admits this would probably never happen.

I'm curious to see what the forum thinks of this video and the proposed solution to make society less promiscuous and more traditional.

Here's the video:

RE: The Economics of Sex
The video's premise is flawed at best.

Its contention with respect to guys is true ... if you're within the top 20% of males. In that instance, then yes, sex is becoming increasingly easier and easier to come by with sluttier and sluttier females.

If you're not in that top 20%, by comparison, it's getting harder to obtain sex, as women are starting to get ever choosier and choosier.

Females aren't getting sluttier in a desperate attempt to keep male attention - they're doing it because the cultural zeitgeist says that they should feel liberated to do so and that their mere possession of a vagina makes them incapable of doing anything wrong.

It's telling that the female narrator is discussing how to stop guys from living the Bachelor lifestyle and lock them down, so to speak, when the only guys who really live that lifestyle nowadays with any level of success are the top 20% of men. Like most females nowadays, the other 80% are virtually invisible to her.
