Everything about the way he's acting sets off alarm bells, and is calculated to do so because he only wants people to refuse. How much buzz is there in a video where people buy stuff for cheaper than normal?

These guys did a much better job of putting people at ease, because their desired result was compliance, not rejection:

Aphelion is exactly right. They're not refusing him because they think a silver bar, even a fake one, is worth less than a stick of gum. No one is that dumb. The dumbest chick in the world knows that a hunk of silver is worth more than a stick of gum.

They're refusing him because the whole situation screams "Something is wrong! You need to get out of here immediately!"

I hang out on the internet enough that if it happened to me, I would assume "Wacky Youtube prank video," but I'd turn it down anyway. Who knows what the rest of the prank is? Is it really something I want to be involved with?

Dumb video. As if any normal sane person would buy some silver bar from some random dude off the street heckling them with a microphone and a camera. Who knows if it's real silver?

RE: Americans Reject 10 oz Silver Bar For $10
Those of you who are defending the people in the video because the whole situation raises red flags, you're just justfying people avoiding uncomfortable situations no matter what the cost. There is a shop right next to them that can varify the authenticity of the silver. People just don't wanna take risk. They don't wanna step out of their comfort zone and deal with a situation. And that cost each person in the video 160 dollars. Yet you are trying to justify this loser's mentality.

The guy is clean-cut, he can obviously afford a camera, he doesn't look threatening. True that he doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt and he acts like a hustler, but the situation is not so alarming that you should just eject like those in the video. He doesn't look like he's gonna hold a knife in your throat. The least you could do is spend 60 seconds to try to understand the risks and the possible rewards of your situation. 99 cents for a silver bar that may or may not be fake? And there is a place just near you where you can varify it? This is not about trust, this is about a very simple risk assessment.

RE: Americans Reject 10 oz Silver Bar For $10
The camera and mic debunk any idea this guy is just some random dude selling stolen shit out if his car.

Mark Dice purposely trolls and goes after young Americans as they are the dumbest around. No American under 30 will know anything about silver, even me as a kid I remember getting silver coins as a gift and being told to save them because they are worth more. You could feel how much heavier and bigger it was then regular money.

In 2015 the average American thinks silver is the same plated polished crap that thier spoons and fridge is coated with and have no idea of its value.

People are simply stupid. And to add to this you have to disclose legally that you are filming, you can't just filming random people, you have to disclose upfront or if they ask if its for research.

People are just morons that is all. Anybody who was wise would of taken it and tried to validate it as quick as possible. If its fake you toss it away.

I give the last girl credit as she was the most wise of them all to at least inquire on her curiosity. She asked further and learned the catch.

Half of this is pure stupidity, but also the sad reality that silver represents anti everything for the modern age. It isn't attractive, isn't the most practical, but it has long term value and stability and teaches you patience. For America who just has young people living of credit cards and paying the minimum this just isn't viable for them in 2015 and all simply freeze up and reject it.

If he did this in a Cali Chinese area he would of had it sold in 5mins with people lining up to see if he has more.

The law for trafficking in stolen goods is seizure of the goods and possible fine or arrest. Plus you have to deal with the cops which is also no good.

The minuscule chance that this guy is genuinely lighting money on fire by selling silver for less than it's worth is not worth the much more likely hassle of having to explain to the police why some stranger basically gave you free money.

Not knowing that the goods are stolen is not necessarily a defense.

What criminals walk around with a microphone, a hand boom mic, and camera (with a camera guy)?

Oh and he also has to disclose his name/organization too to film (he even has a dice mic that is a play of his name).

Really ... a thief would do all this to sell stolen shit?

You cant be that dense.

Dude, what's with this butt-hurt tone? I didn't say anything about Americans. I just shared my opinion on how those people should have handled the situation. It's not an insight to the American culture. Yesterday we were in a heated argument in Stop a Douchebag thread. Does that mean we were criticizing the Russian nation? Relax. If you're gonna be offended by anything that is said about Americans, take a loot at the other posts in this thread. Go have meltdown with them.

Here's one guy whose natural instincts weren't so well-honed! He was a weatherman from my city:

The biggest fraud against a single person [of 88 known victims] listed in the affidavit occurred at Caviar Bar... A man identified only as J.B. from Philadelphia was approached by Marina Turcina and Anna Kilimatova at the Delano and allegedly taken for $43,000 on his American Express card. It included a purchase of $2,480 for a painting from Caviar's wall that he said he never authorized.

The guy is on the street hustling "silver" conveniently right in front of a pawn shop with a mic and camera in front of your face. People don't like to be exploited or made a fool of most especially on camera which is appears obvious this guy is trying to do.

I'm not saying your average person is not ignorant or small/simple minded, but this video is an obvious setup and it produced the desired effect. It's got 0% to do with people not knowing that silver is valuable and 100% to do with people not wanted to be accosted by a mic and camera. Shit, it's not like the guy was obviously part of a news crew asking for eye-witness reports, and he's not famous or recognizable where people would know what he is known for.

People in video showing token reasonable suspicion/dismissal. Not sure why this even needs further discussion.

This is interesting, the girl at 1:04 answers, "America?" and it's buzzed as incorrect. She wasn't sure and followed it with "I don't know" but, if she meant America as the common abbreviation for "United States of America" she was right.

And from the video we know that they accept other slang terms like "North" or "Union". It's like the smug fucks making the video didn't even know the answer. Makes me wonder if I'd be buzzed wrong for clearly saying "United States of America".

I've been sitting here for hours waiting for this computer to back up and getting increasingly picky and irritated! The comments I've been leaving of Youtube videos might get me arrested! Playoff games are starting in a few hours and this damn computer is taking forever!

That is all.

I didn't see the video, but the going rate of a quality 5 pound lead ingot is around ten bucks. This street hustler's "silver" bullion might just be silver plated lead, in which case he would be fleecing people by selling it for ten bucks. I'm not saying that his marks knew that, but people in general understand that there's no such thing as a free lunch.

RE: Americans Reject 10 oz Silver Bar For $10
There is more to human behavior than logic. To be logical generally demands some time to slow down to think about something. I was once asked the question on the spot to answer the question "Who is buried at Grant's tomb?" The answer is Grant. This is a logical answer based on this follow argument:
1) Tombs are named after the people buried at them.
2) The tomb is named Grant's tomb
3) Therefore grant is buried at Grant thomb
4) the answer is grant

Not all people operate on logic 24 hours 7 days a week. Consider the following:
1) i had 4 hours of sleep that night. At the time i just wanted
2) people operate on facts as opposed to logical statements. Its possible for another person to be buried at grant's tomb. Remove grant's body and replace it.

The videos are not stupid, it's the public that is made up of "stupid." He has several of these where he is standing next to a coin shop and offers people to validate the coin. Click through to the rest of Mark Dices videos, people similarly sign away their first amendment rights, banning films, give their data for no reason, etc.

(06-25-2015 03:08 AM)aphelion Wrote:  Come on.

Among other things, RVF is a pickup site. Pickup is all about reading subtext. This transaction and approach is bursting with subtext. How in the world are you guys missing this. How is a forum on a pickup-focused website going to get all autistic about YO THIS BAR OF SILVER IS WORTH $160, WHY WOULDN'T YOU BUY IT and totally miss the subtext of what's going on in this situation.

1) Guy Is Approaching Out Of The Blue - what do you want from me? Lack of comfort game. Suspicion flag #1.

2) Guy Is Offering Deal Too Good To Be True - guy is offering free money. Nobody gives away free money. Suspicion flag #2.

3) Guy Immediately Lowers Price When Offered - indicates that $10 was a bad deal and he was already trying to rip them off once. Suspicion flag #3.

4) Guy Is Flanked By A Camera - what are you taking this footage for? Suspicion flag #4.

People rightly fear others who act irrationally. If the guy is acting irrationally by offering free money, why wouldn't he then continue to act irrationally if the mark angers him somehow by declining his offer? Fear mode activated.

They then reacted appropriately to him, which was to disengage as politely as humanly possible without angering the guy and risking further escalation of a weird situation. These people on camera were obviously wary of him and you could tell by their body language and their waffling, noncombative responses. It's the same reason that people don't flat out tell charities 'no, I don't want to give any money to your charity', they say, 'oh, really tight this month, got no cash on me, etc.' They're intuitively fearful of angering the other person.

Incidentally, they were swiftly able to discern that this guy really did have an agenda that was not him giving them free money. As it turns out, he was trying to make fools of them on Youtube, so they were right to fear him.

NONE of your arguments make any sense if you watch this one below. You are "over analyzing" this. Its a simple point he is making that masses of people are ignorant of the value of coins or would sign away info or rights without asking why.
