I'm going to make the charitable assumption, and assume that he was so utterly pissed off that his first press conference at the white house was spent dealing with obvious idiot lies that he was tripping over his own words in fury.

When a man can't even speak straight due to righteous anger, you'll get a few ums and uhs. That press conference was glorious. You know the media will talking about it for days. Sets the right tone, especially where he said accountability is a two-way street.

Look how mad the press was that he didn't take questions! They were pissed right off! Good! Fuck em'!

I prefer this style of breifings, just give them info and bounce. They won't report honestly so why even take the questions.

MSM is on suicide watch. My bold prediction for 2017 is still that a major media MSM entity will go belly up.

   

I'm seeing lots of stuff online about how Obama's inauguration had so much more people attending then Trump's with the side to side pic being posted up over and over again. It wasn't just social media, lots of the big MSM outlets were pushing this story too. The same outlets weren't doing stories about the size of Trump's rallies vs Clinton's hence all the constant calls from Trump during his rallies to turn the camera around. It's almost like all these outlets are collaborating to push a certain storyline.

A lot of this press conference was a very deliberate affectation. There's no way on Earth Donald Trump, of all people, hired a guy who's incapable of reading from a sheet of paper without tripping over his own tongue. Trump's been hiring people to give press conferences since before the days of disco. There's no way that Spicer is genuinely that angry about some dumbass tweets on the internet. This was a show, pure and simple. You can speculate on the reasons for the show, but this is my best guess: Trump's major goal right now is to utterly delegitimize the press; they're his biggest enemy. If the Russian report hadn't been compiled by complete morons, it could have done real damage. As it was, it fell apart due to the ridiculous claims about pissing prostitutes. The next attempt on him probably won't be so utterly stupid, and the best way to neutralize the damage in advance is to send the press into such paroxysms of fury that they keep the "outrage" dial constantly turned to 11. If they keep screaming long enough, eventually the public starts to tune them out entirely, and any real damaging information gets lost in a flood of anti-Trump hyperbole. We saw this during the primary, where the anti-Trump forces peaked a month or two before the really critical primaries. They called him a racist, a rapist, a tax-dodger, Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot all in the span of a single week, and there was nothing left to call him.

So Trump sends out a guy in an ill-fitting suit to rant and rave at the press for five minutes, and get them nice and pissed off. They all dutifully run home and write another dozen stories about how "Trump is a threat to our democracy!" and "Trump is a fascist!" because a guy on a podium was mean to them. But every time they scream, their next scream is just a little more likely to be ignored. When the next scandal hits that actually has the potential to damage Trump, it will be lost in the public's mind amidst 10,000 molehill stories about oval office busts and what color the grass was on inauguration day.

There are other nice effects, too. Trump is going to have to make compromises in the coming weeks, compromises that are going to upset some of his voters. (I personally expect clemency for the DACA immigrants, as much as I hate to say it.) Having the press secretary look like a pissed-off high school gym teacher who wants nothing more than to rip the arms off a New York Times reporter and jam them down his throat is going to go a long way to keeping his base on his side.

EDIT: Here's Spicer on Lou Dobbs, 10 days ago. Note the carefully tailored (and no doubt very expensive) suit he's wearing.

Yup, and in the end it will probably just be a tax on remittances, which doesn't cost us anything and is huge leverage on the Mexican government. They can't do anything about it either. At the moment, the Mexican government is acting like a bunch of babies. They could go to Trump with a poor hand to play and at least try and get the most out of it, or they could whine and complain like they are doing now while Trump taxes the shit out of remittances and Mexico loses a lot of money at no expense to us while paying for the wall.

As a side note, I don't think Trump wants to "end" NAFTA (or somewhat free trade between Mexico and the US), but he wants to renegotiate and stop the unfairness that goes on at the border and also the trend of our companies moving to the Mexico and selling shit back to us for slightly cheaper (Econ 101 says cheaper is better, but we are talking 5-10% cheaper which isn't all that noticeable for a consumer) at the same time we lose out on a ton of jobs. What is better? More jobs and a bigger middle class in the USA or some of our products being a little cheaper? I'll go with jobs and a middle class. Not to mention, if Trump cuts corporate taxes and regulations in the US and also unleashes our energy resources, then the costs of making goods here will drop, making the "cheaper goods" argument weaker. Renegotiating NAFTA also can give us greater national sovereignty which is important too.

It seems hard to believe, but is anyone else having a hard time finding enough free time to keep up with all the winning? Honestly, I thought on some level the winning all the time business was a bit hyperbolic on the campaign trail, but this is getting a bit ridiculous.
