And another article by a leftist site acknowledging that Trump's trolling is so advanced that many people are only falling for the lowest hanging fruit surface level interpretation and not seeing the not so obvious signals he is sending out. Trump's taco bowl tweet is held up as an example of this in the articled linked below.
http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/20...ally-wrong
Quote:Plus it gets a ton of attention, and it also induces loads of mockery from overeducated PC liberals who don't understand a compliment when they see one. It's really a genius tweet.
If you look at the highest liked comments on Facebook for the taco bowl pic you'll see some people making comments along the lines of "omg so racist it's like saying I love blacks because I like fried chicken" and "omg he's such a moron he doesn't even understand the point of Cinco de Mayo and that a taco bowl is not real Mexican food". A lot of people are going to see those comments and it's just going to further reinforce the image that regular Joe Sixpack Americans have of anti-Trump people being a bunch of overly-PC stick-in-the-ass types that cry racism at every little infraction - such as getting angry about eating a taco bowl on Cinco de Mayo. There's always been a big portion of Americans that hate PC culture but in 2016 this amount is at an all time high so Trump's tweet will have more effect now then any other year in the past decade.

Great post and I agree for the most part. However I'm a bit uncertain about this point. I've also thought of this factor but decided to leave it out because I couldn't make up my mind about it. The thing is, it's true that it sounds cartoony (at least for some), but the effect of that is less than clear. On one hand, the cartooniness can make the notion that he's is a serious danger seems silly. On the hand, precisely for this, it can create the impression that he is an act-tough poser who shouldn't be taken seriously, a 'look, we have a badass here' kind of thing. Again, this factor seems too elusive for me to determine precisely how it would work out - personally.
But even if the latter is the stronger case, I don't think it would have a serious effect on Trump's image. That point (he is an act-tough poser) has been made before, by his opponents.
Meanwhile, in Prole World:
I was talking to my Stepdad back in Oz earlier. He went to see 'Comedian' Jim Jefferies last night and was raving about the show, and how 'intelligent' the guy was, because he touched on 'many political topics', so it was 'deep' as well as 'funny'.
"He was talking about Trump, and saying how he wanted to identify and register all the Muslims in the country ."
Then his voiced changed, in that classic Leftist way of aping someone they read as more intelligent than them saying something they heard other people laughing at, which they then parrot in the hope observers read them as similarily-intelligent and funny too.
In obvious imitation of Jefferies, whom I'm guessing is as unfunny as any modern leftist comedian, he said "Hmmm... that sounds like someone we all know of."
He waited for the laugh, so I grunted, not taking the bait.
"Do you know who he meant?" He never has really understood just how intelligent my sister and I are, because doing so would vastly-threaten his ego.
"Nah," I said. I wanted him to work for it.
"Hitler."
"Oh." I didn't laugh, but asked "How much did you pay for the ticket?"
"[Amount]."
"Huh. You could have gotten that from any newspaper for free back in January."
He quickly-changed the subject. I'm sure he'll be the hit of his University Office on Monday Morning with such incisive political commentary.

I remember right back at the start of the campaign when he referred to Prince Al Waleed of Saudi Arabia as "goofy" in response to one of his twitter attacks. Goofy! To describe one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the world! It seems preposterous to use the word goofy to publicly insult this man. And yet it worked - we haven't heard anything from goofy Al Waleed ever since. Absolute madman.
Edit: I just rechecked. Actually he used the word "dopey." Still, it has the same ring to it.

She's completely obsessed with Trump!
It doesn't take much to set off the amygdala in a leftist.
Hence the "triggering" phenomenon, be it SJW campus fatties or like minded sitting senators. They're easy to set off like a trip wire.
Maybe a good nickname for the Donald: Triggering Trump
Round 2 of this twitter beatdown.
Someone posted this gem on one of Warren's tweets.

What's the story with Warren and why did he waste time making a name for her?
EDIT: Don't worry, Subversive Hair detected. Progressive Politician then?
'Goofy' is just a polite way of saying 'Dykey'.

Elizabeth Warren is faaar left
A lot of Democrats want to see her on Hillary's ticket as VP and she apparently isn't running for re-election in the senate so people speculate she's hoping for the VP too. I'd assume that's why he went after her. Plus it's gotta be fun for him with how easy these lefties get triggered
Elizabeth Warren is a prominent democrat and potential VP candidate against Trump. If Hillary were to go down to an FBI indictment, there's a solid chance that she would be called in as a replacement.
That's what makes her nickname-worthy.
Also, she's reviled on the right because of her hypocrisy and identity politics. At a time where Trump needs the Republican party to pull together (There's some talk about a third party run by disgruntled conservatives, for instance.) punching Elizabeth Warren in her fake Indian face is a good way to show that he's a part of the conservative tribe.
(05-06-2016 09:45 PM)Paracelsus Wrote: (05-06-2016 08:26 PM)Libertas Wrote: I wholeheartedly agree with LOZ on purity tests.
Keep in mind, one of the reasons why the right always loses is because they're in many ways more interested in ideological purity than winning. A lot of the "nevertrump" crowd keeps railing against him because "HE'S NOT A TRUE CONSERVATIVE!" This despite the fact that Trump's tax, healthcare, and corporate inversion plans are basically in line with Conservatism, Inc. has proposed for decades.
But for some reason, he's still not "true conservative" enough for these "true conservatives." Many of them seem to want to actively self-sabotage and let the left win AGAIN, because they need someone who is 100% "true conservative ," as defined by them, of course.
Part of the reason is intellectual snobbery.
I had a lot of respect for Dan Simmons as an author. His debut novel, Song of Kali, shits over most of Stephen King's best work in horror. And with Hyperion he basically wrote the best novel in science fiction that I've ever seen, and won a Hugo back when a Hugo actually meant something.
Simmons took the long road over from liberalism to conservatism, and describes his journey in some detail by reference to each of the Presidents he's seen, back to JFK and right through to just before Obama's election. It was Jimmy Carter who turned him into a conservative. Simmons' novel Flashback really turned him into pariah for the Left, because it was unashamedly honest about the fact Obama was destroying the economy and Islam would be one of the big beneficiaries of that.
But go anywhere near his forums and his line of political discussion, which he heavily and openly moderates against Trump, is to reproduce National Review articles and keep up the line of vitriol that Trump is a buffoon, that he's stupid, that he doesn't know what he's talking about, that he's a racist. All the liberal talking points, spouted by the same guy who writes beautiful, thoughtful, apolitical essays on Shakespeare and who somehow managed to convincingly get John Keats' poetry and persona into a book about artificial intelligences out to destroy mankind.
But the primary thrust of his attacks centres on Trump being stupid. That is, on his intelligence. I can only conclude a big part of this is because Trump, and all the alt-right, are not "classically educated" and did not go to the same English Literature classes that they, the conservatives did. Simmons and his type of critic sit back perpetually and piss and moan that the Left only wins because the American People have been dumbed down, but collapse into foaming rage when someone from their ideological area plays by the same rules. It's as if they think it's still cool to bring a knife to a gunfight, that it's fine to get creamed as long as you always fight fair, even if the opponent is breaking every rule. They are enraged by the fact that elections aren't won by substantial, cigar-house discussions of the issues, but by getting more people to vote for you than the other guy -- and they're even more enraged that someone from the Right who isn't them seems a possibility to take the White House. They idolise Lincoln's Presidency while ignoring his fierce nationalism, tariffs, and support of business -- all of which mark Trump. They idolise Lincoln's principles while ignoring the underhand shit that Lincoln had to do in order to get some of those principles and ideas achieved.
This jealousy I think is emblematic of the Conservative (with a capital 'C'): you can't be an outsider. You have to fight by the rules they say you should, even if those rules are outmoded. This sort of asstastic thinking was responsible for the charnel houses of Ypres and the Somme: the idea you should still charge across open fields, like some sort of medieval knight, towards emplaced machine guns.
As a Dan Simmons fan myself you hit the nail on the head.
I cant remember who else made a very good argument against what conservatives have become, but your argument really fleshes out the big problem of jealousy against pragmatic conservative ideas going against high and mighty blowhard conservatism.
Its similar to Rand Paul/Ron Paul being against Trump. 95% their ideas are the same but Trump connects with the common man, so they don't like Trump (I know Rand held to his previous promise to support the nominee).
Another issue might be that since conservatives haven't had any leadership for so long, I mean since Reagan essentially, people like Dan Simmons feel like THEY are the real conservatives, the last ones holding up the good fight, sword in hand. Now a new leader comes along and these people, such as Dan Simmons, they don't want to join into any other group, they were the last man standing and their fight is good and just. They can't mentally get over that BS and join the new war with our new general.
How does this guy have any followers?

And yet it's still extremely effective. I am a non-American who has never heard of this woman before and knows nothing about her. And yet after hearing Trump's nickname, I already have a negative opinion about her. He didn't even need to explain to me why she's goofy - somehow he's able to convince me with a single word. I can't think of any other person who is able to do that.

Creepy Bill Clinton.
Particularly as his SMV has plummeted since his days in the White House. No sexual attraction = no hamstering away his sexual misconduct.
