The Fall of Troy has reunited and is coming out with a new album this fall. Never liked Erak's singing, love the instruments though. Probably the most technical and creative guitar I have ever heard and he was shredding in his teenage years on their EP.

Skip 3 minutes in for the song. Love the part where he stands up towards the front of the stage for the finger tap solo at 5:19. Just breaks back into death screams.

Start at 6:45 to see him break from rythmn to another sharp finger tap riff out of nowhere. This song is all twists and turns.

I like Dance Gavin Dance's new stuff too.

Singing like this takes a lot of patience from the listener. You have to really like the band to deal with it. Coheed and Cambria are the same way in my opinion. The voice just doesn't go with the music. The balls need to drop, get raspy, something.

I actually think Coheed and Cambria's (one of my favorite bands of all time) lead has a much better voice although acquired taste, and many love it. Erak's is just a horrible singing voice there is no way around it. Even diehard Fall of Troy fans like me hate Erak's voice lol.

I think playing in Coheed would be amazing I saw them live when I was 19. Nothing but barely legal cute geeky hispter chicks and nerds. About a 50 50 split. Plus there music is nothing, but stories which I think would take longer to get sick of playing than a song without so much background. No one agrees with me, but I see them like a modern screamo version of Rush.

Here's another of my favorites of all time been gone for awhile and little known:

These Arms Are Snakes

Song:
Drinking From the Necks of Your Loved Ones

Laugh Who but drug addled teenagers could have made these names up? Look at that album cover.

Their live shit is so distorted I'd have to show up buried in drugs and alcohol, recorded they sound pretty raw. Steve Snare has an angry ranting poet thing going on.

Ok here is Erak shredding when he is like 17 years old. I still can't believe his playing ability anytime I watch. This song is a nightmare to play just from a memory stand point.

I have only seen Coheed live once, in Houston, circa late 2002 at Mary Jane's after a bus broke down and the Austin show got cancelled. So we drove to the next stop. They were an opener with Thrice for Hot Water Music. Great show.

I like Thomas' voice alot. I must be in a minority. Compared to many many other bands in this genre, his is pretty good, when he is concentrating hard at least. When he gets tired (or too creative), it falls off a cliff. He could use more voice coaching for sure, don't get me wrong. His natural voice is what is carrying him. You can hear the talent in it. He just needs to become more of a student of the singing game and get more serious training and lessons. Can you imagine how cool it would be in Tosin, Buckethead, or Joe Satriani could sing well enough to match their guitar playing? Can't have it all. Eric Clapton or Jimi might be the closest you get to that. I'm sure we could think of a few more to add to that list.

Chino from Deftones, Dustin from Thrice, what do those guys have in common? Their vocals got waaaaay better as time progressed. In fact because their vocals got so much better, they can take on more vocally complex challenges and increase their ranges. The downside is that they get a little closer to mainstream music because of it, but that is the where the challenge lies. Keeping it real for your loyal fans, but getting better as an artist to appeal to more fans.

It could be worse. He could be like Chester from Linkin Park. Man what the fuck happened to his voice? I listened to their latest album and man did his voice sound weak to me. Maybe I was just expecting the screaming from back in the day and he is too old to do that now. Even without the screaming it just did not have any bite to it. You know that "I am getting picked on, cannot get laid, angry as fuck beta nerd rage, I'm gonna stab you for calling me a homo" kinda teenage angst type of shit. Laugh

I used quotation marks to emphasize the fact that it really didn't matter if it was real or not, if i was truly offended i wouldn't have used them. I was making fun of what hipsters would say, next time i won't make the mistake to assume everyone would understand this without intonation or sound.

The new We Came as Romans is garbage. They pulled an Of Mice and Men and sold out to try to get on major radio stations.

Why do so many good post-hardcore and metalcore bands have to throw away their sound after their first few albums and try to be Breaking Benjamin or Linkin Park?

The biggest loss on the new album is the complex drum riffs. It sounds like their drummer stepped out of the studio and had a 12 year old write for him.

RE: Post-hardcore/Screamo
Guys, why is there a thread on post-hardcore/screamo on RVF?

The clean singing and lyrics go directly against what masculinity stands for. It's like having a thread about secret gay crushes or Miley Cyrus. Except even Cyrus' lyrics are more masculine than what these wannabe emo bands produce.

This should be under the "guilty pleasures" thread, if at all.

Can you look at this video and tell me why any self-respecting man should listen to this band?

I'm not trolling RVF, I have serious reasons for hating this style of music. It has turned an entire generation of men into girl pants wearing, crying pussies. Literally.

I was a metal musician in NY, and overnight 90% of the bands out there went into metalcore/screamo/post-hardcore. It's a fucking fad if I ever saw one, and every member of this group follows a particular style, just like SJWs or college feminists, mainly:

Skinny, never working out.
A million tattoos.
Crying about their relationship & breakups. This is the subject of almost every song in this musical genre.
Wearing girls pants. I shit you not, before skinny jeans were made widely available for men, EVERY guy I knew who listened to this style of music went into the store and bought themselves a pair of girl pants for teenage girls.

How the fuck are you going to call yourself a man when you are wearing teenage girls pants?

This is just a "harder" version of emo. Guys who listen to this regularly listen to emo bands as well and get inspiration from them.

Emo is male feminism for high school aged boys, or at least that's what it was when I was growing up.

We fought hard against the emos. For me, metal represented the exact opposite of not only post-hardcore, but feminism and the degenerate culture that has destroyed masculinity.

Throughout my childhood and teenage years I was told men are bad, masculinity is bad, power and strength are bad. Then I discover metal at 17 and literally for the first time in my life, find something that agrees with how I felt inside as a man for my entire life.

But screamo poisons that, just as feminism poisons everything.

There are some good metalcore bands out there, like Unearth, but largely all this music is derivative, unoriginal bullshit.

Almost every band sounds the same. My friend, who was almost 30, was in a metalcore band. They played a concert and afterward he came up to me and said "wow, we played the same breakdowns as the 14 year old screamo band."

No shit, there are only so many ways to arrange the same garbage riffs and breakdowns.

Where is the innovation? Does screamo have its own Emperor or Nile? No, because it's based on a philosophy of weakness and betadum, not pushing your own limits and technical ability.

For older RVF members who don't know how horribly demasculating this style of music is, and how it goes against everything we stand for here, just watch this video:

This is indefensible guys. Take this emo bullshit and get the fuck out of here.

To be a real man requires discipline. No one is perfect, and very few people are natural alphas. You have to make the decision to tune out the negative influences in your life.

It starts with listening to emo/screamo. What could be the harm - it's just music. But once you let one destructive thought in, it becomes a habit. A habit turns into a value very quickly. And soon your values include wearing girl pants and makeup.

Man up, up on some death metal or violent rap music, and forget about this emo bullshit.

I typed up a long rebuttal but realized your post was too ignorant to give a respectable response.

Every time I update this thread, some retard jumps in hating without reading the thread. We get it AFS, your a big famous metal badass and we are all 13 year old's wearing make up and girl jeans.

Please, tell me more about what "we" on RVF stand for from your long stay since May.

I could post a dozen songs with red pill virtues but apparently it will still sour my fragile mind into a life of mascara and skinny jeans.

I don't care if you've been on RVF since inception. Correct me I'm wrong, but this is supposed to be a forum for masculine men and topics. If someone advocates gay sex or feminism, they aren't welcome here. This is how I feel about this genre of music.

Maybe there are red pill songs or bands, but they are the exception that proves the rule. Like a Christian black metal band - it doesn't reflect what the movement is about.

I was part of the music scene in NY for over 10 years and know what screamo is all about. I've shared practice spaces and concerts with these bands. A few of my best friends were involved. I've literally met hundreds of people involved in this movement. And everything about it goes against masculine values, period.

Feel free to listen to whatever you want. Excuse my "ignorance," but the label screamo comes from a combination of the words screaming and "emo." Emo = emotional. Crying like a little bitch about your girlfriend, even if you're screaming, has never been masculine, in any culture or in any time in history. I stand by my criticism.

RE: Post-hardcore/Screamo
If that's your opinion, why bother posting on this thread? This is an appreciation thread for the genre. There are plenty of threads for other types of music on RVF.

For example, I hate country music with a passion. But am I going to go onto a country thread and talk shit because I assume everyone who listens to country is trying to kill themselves on their tractor after their dog and girlfriend left them? No, I have respect for the members of this board and also common human decency. Two things you are apparently lacking despite your vast experience as a musician.

Also, I like both songs you posted. You don't have to agree with the lyrics to like a song. Not everyone is fragile minded and open to subversion. Everyone here is comfortable enough with themselves to enjoy good tunes regardless of the message. But anyway, here's a few red-pill jams for everyone not bringing down this thread.

On your average American woman:

On ditching the 9-5 to live your dream:

The majority of listeners don't dress or act anything like the band members. To think otherwise you must have been in an extreme niche or very deluded.

You got it wrong bud. The dog dies, or the chick takes it with her when she goes. Fido doesn't leave by choice. But seriously...

I'm not big on death metal or violent rap either (sorry AFS) but I think the guys has a point when he says that screamo emo is unmasculine. Those guys who play emo music all look the same, and that look is skinny faggot. They are not to be aspired to in my book.

I get what you're saying- I listen to music first and foremost if it appeals to me musically. But I'm sure my inner views and beliefs shape my taste in music. I can't help it. It's the same thing that makes me see red when I see some queer on TV, or someone saying how wonderful and brave Bruce Jenner is. I think it's a basic tribal instinct- we wish to preserve the culture we know and love. I see where AFS is coming from when he draws parallels with feminism and the decay of modern society, and I'd ask the question- are those sort of artists the kind of role models you'd like the next generation to embrace?

If you truely are in it just for the music, just like someone who claims they 'don't see colour' then I respect that. I just can't imagine being that disconnected from my core beliefs.

They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety- Benjamin Franklin, as if you didn't know...
