Post-hardcore/Screamo
Inspired by the heavy metal thread, I thought I should make a thread on the music I listen to. Most people in my day-to-day life don't know this about me, but I almost exclusively listen to post-hardcore bands. It all started freshman year when my brother played "Your Sword vs. My Dagger" by Silverstein on the way to hockey practice. I then started listening to Silverstein, A Day to Remember, Chiodos, etc. I am currently a big fan of We Came as Romans and Everyone Dies in Utah.

Couldn't this have gone on the heavy metal thread?

I thought post hardcore was her sucking my knob clean.

I've been on the post-rock hype, check out "Everything in Slow Motion"

Never heard of Everyones dies in Utah, I just listened to Desoto '55, it was good but the quality of the other songs seem uneven.

Also, who the fuck even is in Chiodos anymore?

This genre is absolutely different from metal.

Do you like Envy at all. Awesome Japanese screamo/post-hardcore.

PEople who don't listen to either genre would be quick to say we should just participate in the metal thread, but the genres are so different.

Lochte, I believe the lead singer of Chiodos is now in a super group called DRUGS, which stands for destroy rebuild until god shows. They came up on my Pandora and are pretty good. Fortis, I've never heard of Envy but I'll check them out.

If you don't know Glassjaw, I pity you.

That's the band that got me in to post hard core... The song?
Hotel of the white locust.

Listen to worship and tribute as a starter because they're first album. Everything you wanted to know about silence, is much too hard core for some of the most hard core fans.

See also.... Fear before the march of flames. Song? My fucking deer hunter.
Album? The always open mouth.

You would be wise to listen yo these two albums from these bands. Should only take 2 hours out of your life and if you like it then they'll bring many hours of enjoyment to you.

P.s. these aren't mainstream bands but if you have any friends that have mentioned these two bands, your in good company...let me k is what you think as I look forward to hearing g it

Just listened to Envy. They are pretty good but I wish they had some clean vocals. I like a balance between screams and clean vocals. I'm currently listening to Worship and Tribute by Glassjaw. Great album so far and it kind of reminds me of letlive. I think their singer's voices are similar.

RE: Post-hardcore/Screamo
^Never heard of any of those bands. I will definitely check them out.

Other than my best buddy in high school, I don't think I've ever met anyone who listens to the same bands I do. I've got my girlfriend listening to post hardcore though. I started her out on some slower songs and slowly ramped it up.

Current bands I'm listening to are Jamie's Elsewhere, I See Stars, In Fear and Faith, Amity Affliction, Famous Last Words, Capture the Crown, For All Those Sleeping, Issues, Ice Nine Kills, The Word Alive, Secrets, A Skylit Drive, and Memphis May Fire.

Also, I don't think there will ever be an album that tops Let it Enfold You by Senses Fail.

RE: Post-hardcore/Screamo
I will admit that this is my second favorite kind of music. A huge guilty pleasure of mine. I am a HUGE Fall of Troy fan. They are my favorite band regardless of genre. Thomas Erak is a mega beast on guitar. I love watching those skinny fingers of his destroy the fret. Tim the bassist is badass even though he is ridiculously emotionally unstable. The drummer is fantastic too, but I have heard much much better ones, so to me he really does not stand out too much. Considering the amount of amazing drummers in the world and Neil Pert is still alive, it's hard for anyone to really stick out on drums.

Thrice (The old stuff obviously)
The Devil Wears Prada
Haste the Day
Sky Eats Airplane
I wrestled a Bear Once
Miss May I
As I Lay Dying
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
Sonic Syndicate
Protest the Hero (the older stuff)
Demon Hunter (Does this qualify? Probably not...)
Saosin
Senses Fail
Underoath
The Beloved (epic band)
Periphery (awesome too)

I have not listened to any in a while though. I bet there is alot more to check out. I hope you guys post plenty to check out so that I can catch up.

If anyone wants to look down on my choice of music, fuck u in advance. Tongue

You mean Attack Attack? Not many people know this but they were banned from tons of venues in Columbus for stealing other bands shit and selling it at Guitar Center. Total fags but Caleb Shomo is a solid musician, check out his new band Beartooth. Luckily the crabcore bullshit died out a few years back.

I never really focused on genres and don't know the exact distinction between them but would Fall of Troy and Dance Gavin Dance classify as screamo. Even if they don't you should still check those 2 out. Specifically Doppleganger by Fall of Troy and the Johnny Craig era Dance Gavin Dance.

Fall of Troy can fit into several genres.

Progressive Rock
Progressive Metal
Post-Hardcore
Metalcore
Mathcore

Most of the bands I listed are like that as well or similar to Fall of Troy plus or minus 1 or 2 other genres.

I'm glad a few vets are fans of this thread. Attack Attack's new album is decent. A good amount of the bands out there are little bitches and wear makeup. Alesana comes to mind. Too bad that there are only a few that are red pill. (We Came as Romans comes to mind).

Jonny Craig is a piece of shit but he has put together some great bands. Emarosa and Slaves are a work of art. The new Emarosa is great as well (w/o JC). I love the music, great band all around.

I don't like the genre, but my favorite rock group is mewithoutYou and their first two albums are described as post-hardcore. If you've heard anything by them, it is probably this:

Silverstein has a new album out. They've consistently put out good music over the past 10+ years. Most bands fall off after a few albums.

EuphoricWizard, the new Dance Gavin Dance album is pretty good. I didn't like their stuff after Johnny Craig, but I'm a fan of the new album.

Just a pet peeve of mine; "screamo" is a term for people (aka my friends) who don't know that this sub-genre is referred to as metalcore/ post-hardcore.
