In many ways this isn't all that surprising. The X-men and the universe they lived in and shared with other super heroes has always been an analogy for civil rights and other political discussions. It was usually secondary and in the background most of the time instead of being in your face like this.

If anything I see this as a bit of a good thing. The reason is that most comic geeks/nerds, and really any male heavily involved in any other type of fandom, are male and while they are generally leftist and fairly liberal they are about as far as you can get from being feminists or social justice warriors like the few tumblerinas that will celebrate this.

To see some real life examples look at Kevin Smith and his friends. Watch Clerks, Clerks 2, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob film, Dogma, or even the crappy AMC show Comic Book Men. Their humor and jokes are incredibly non-PC. Whether as kids or adults, these guys are far more likely to discuss who would win in a fight between Wolverine v. Superman than to sit around and talk about gender identity or gay politics. Hell, I would expect that in private Iceman as Assman will be joked about to no end by your average teen comic nerd.

I actually hope they go full Social Justice Warrior on comics like they did with video games because then they will drive more guys to our side and these guys might actually start questioning some of the far left political dogma in the same way that has happened with Gamer Gate.

Marvel is doing everything they can to lower sales of the XMen and make them less relevant.

This is due to the fact that Fox owns the movie rights where the money is made. They rather promote the InHumans, a group of mutant like heroes that they own the full rights to.

What? If anything, comics got me into weight training. I aspired to look like the superheroes I liked while growing up. I wanted to be them, to be better than human. The least I could do was to sculpt my body to emulate them.

Then I slacked off in my mid 20's.

Gotta go rummage in old comic bargain bins, get inspired again at 50¢ a pop.

No, the InHumans are from the Fantastic Four comics and they've been around since the 1960's they're just not as well-known. Basically these aliens did experiments on neathanderthals thousands of years ago that gave them superpower and super intelligence.

I don't think its really going to be that tough. Look how they changed Ultron's Origin from the comic books which is still kinda meh. Hank Pym is a messed up dude
