So Kentucky loses and during the post game press conference the n word is dropped by a Kentucky athlete who is black. Twitter supposedly lit up and supposedly the kid apologized. But I wonder if Al Sharpton is gonna talk about it on his show Monday on MSNBC.

Let's be fair if Kaminsky were to have dropped the N word about a Kentucky player, the world would be on fire right now. And maybe PC stuff has been drilled into the world so much he would know better than to not say it.

I am not trying to start a race thread, which sadly someone is going to hijack and turn this to be ugly. I just want to be fair. This kid will probably get a pass and it will die down. And before anyone hates on me, if you have seen any of my posts about Ferguson, etc. I try very hard to be fair and am not on a side when it comes to race. Just fair is fair.

Harrison's apology is pretty weak.

Harrison said in a series of comments on Twitter that he wanted to apologize “for my poor choice of words used in jest towards a player I respect and know.”
“When I realized how this could be perceived I immediately called big frank to apologize and let him know I didn’t mean any disrespect,” he added.

He said the two of them had a “good conversation” and he wished him good luck in Monday’s championship game.

Harrison had 13 points and four assists in the loss. Harrison and his twin brother, Aaron, have been projected as NBA draft picks but didn’t discuss their futures after the loss.

Why is his apology weak? Kaminsky isn't even black, for chrissakes! It was a poor choice of words, I'll give you that but to batter this guy over an inane comment like that is ridiculous. And I bet this story is going to be beaten to a pulp over the next week or so now. Fuck this shit.

I'm thinking Harrison called Kaminsky a nigger because Harrison uses that in normal parlance. No big deal. Kaminsky did the right thing in dropping the whole deal. Wisconsin is going to play in the Championship, that is the story, not trash talk between players.

I'm pretty right-wing and think that whites usually get the short end of the stick in the media and popular culture, but I can't look at this incident and call it an "anti-white" thing. Nigga is more often than not the go to word black people use in the heat of the moment.

The kentucky guy could have just as easily said "fuck that phaggot" and it would have meant the same exact thing. Now, does that mean there is no racial component to this at all? Probably not. Dude was more than likely extra pissed by having been bested by white boys and and more likely to vent his frustrations than if he had lost to a team led by black stars. But the point is, we don't know. It's just speculation. If he had said "f the cracker" it's 100% racial. With nigga, we're just guessing. I'm gonna say this is a non-issue.

This is a non-issue: In the hood almost everyone regardless of race (White, Asian, Indian) is referred to as "nigga". It's just another word for guy, dude, person, etcetera.

Maybe it is just a class thing then. They beat you and you couldn't act with some decency. He said something about it being in jest. Wisconsin accomplished something big. They stopped the overwhelming favorite and Harrison couldn't be classy enough to give them some credit.

Or am I seeing that wrong also and it is cool to take a shot at guys that beat you because you didn't have the class and maturity to keep it together?

First off, it wasn't classy. His pride got in the way

Not to excuse his behavior, but it was directly after the toughest loss of his life and then a reporter asks you to compliment that other teams star player on how he just kicked your ass

Harrison was wrong; but I do believe reporters do shit like that sometimes to bait such a reaction

Things that happen like this are a non-issue. It's just unfortunate that a certain group of people exist in the world that base their livelihoods around these kind of events. I wasn't a fan or didn't even care about that one little league female pitcher but her response to the criticism she received made me one.

As an outsider, this is all I see happening:

Kentucky was a Southern Confederate State.

Wisconsin was a Northern Union State.

All northerners 'know' that everyone in the south is, like, totally racist because they're all poor, uneducated hicks who stereotype outgroups without seeing them as individual human beings.

They're now just including Blacks in this, the same way 'Asians' are now considered to be benefiting from 'White Privilege'.

I wonder how many Concerned White Saviour Typists are clucking their tongues over such a horrific display of 'Endemic Southern Racism'.

EDIT: Double-checked. I was wrong. They became pro-Union after a dual Confederate Government was formed in 1861.

Still, since the East Coast Elite would know even less than someone on the other side of the world about the Civil War, my point still stands. It's South of the Mason-Dixon Line: it's a Southern State. It wouldn't matter what its official stance was during the war: ideology says that all southerners are racist and that trumps observable reality.

I see where you're coming from however you're forgetting the offender's skin color. In Obama's America, THAT takes precedence over context. Up until now.

It used to be that white people saying "nigger" was worse than killing someone. And I'm not exaggerating.

Of course. Humans use stereotyping as shorthand to determine in and out groups, which is a necessary Tribal Survival Tactic, and expecting anyone to not do this is asking them not to be human, which is why this site is quick to purge guys who obviously don't belong here based on stereotypical behavioural expectations.

The East Coast Upper Middle Class are a definite outgroup for me, though, for some reason, are highly-active on my facebook page, where they repeatedly demonise every Southerner alive. I'd also point you to sites like Jezebel, Huffpo and The Av Club where 'Southern' is as common a dehumanising label as 'Catholic'. The Media Elite, who generally come from the Upper Middle Classes, are virulently-anti south, and this is why this is being Promoted as the Offense Du Jour, as if the speaker had actually been White.

The difference is that I don't whip up shitstorms on Twitter over PC slights to my 'tribe' as a show of semi-religious in group devotion to them, and demand something be done.

All things being equal, this would be a PC liberal's nightmare, but things aren't equal.

I would hope that one day, perhaps when in the NBA, an opposing player is asked about Andrew Harrison, and tongue-in-cheek says "Fuck that nigga". Hopefully it's Chandler Parsons. Then he would be fined an obscene amount of money and suspended for half the season.

Also, in regards to the usage of nigga as an alternative to man, dude, or guy, that is still pretty much a one way street. The reality is that when white people are engaging in what is seen as the black culture's domain, we can only do so when in private. Like this:

I think you'll find it is only in the USA that is a relevant concern. Any white/other race gets called "nigga/nigger" outside the USA/Canada in an insulting way will look at you like you're a fucking retard.

I got called it once and laughed at the moron who said it. It is such a weak insult that it should be retired.

Not really. I grew up in Ft Greene, Brooklyn before the hipsters took over. It was predominantly black (I'm not). I grew up around black people all the way up to college when I got a more diverse group of friends. Anyways, in HS we would all say 'nigga' the way suburbs kids would say 'dude.' And it still happens to this day. Go to any mall in Anytown, USA and find a mixed race group of friends immersed in hip-hop culture. The white kids say it, the black kids say it. As long as blacks see you as one of their own, regardless of your color, no one gives a shit. It's only when a pearl clutcher feels "enlightened" and wants to bring attention to it, that we're "made aware."

Just about all of my Indian-Americans younger male relatives use that word all the time...even guys who came over from India less than 5 years ago use it too. I hear it so often around them I don't even bat an eyelid when they say it.
